4. i dont get bored of his slap.. but would sooo love to hear the guy play that bass fingerstyle on an album.. im not an i think this is wonderful slap playing for the song..for some reason i love the chromatic run just after 20 seconds.. little details that he plays, really stand out for me... 5. There are lots of opinions on slap bass i know.. but imo this the most musically clever slap ive ever seen... this guy is a real master of this technique imo... i know this has been shown before... was wondering if (if you like slap) this is quite universally liked...? Stunning bass... love the color combo...
10. Im in the early stages of teaching myself how to read, and getting my theory to where i want it.... the book that im learning from uses alot of open strings... im neither for or against, but i just wanted some opinions..... ive never really used open strings in general.. do you think its a good habit to get into? i quite like the stretching, not using open strings, but are there any benefits to using open strings i might be missing ? thankyou
11. Kudos for Jens for being so composed... it would really piss me off.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARyVweFJH5A
12.
Does that mean Jaco's bass wasn't a Jazz, because he pulled the frets out and the pickguard off, making it different from what Fender envisioned? Not to mention he used to put a P bass neck on it sometimes...
i really cant see why this is so hard to understand... . if it hasnt got jazz bass pickups in 2 positions, a jazz shaped body, passive with a jazz neck, and Fender on the hadstock its not a proper jazz... its either a copy or a hybrid, when did i mention anything about frets?? or a pickguard??..... well if he a put P bass pickups in its no longer a jazz.... this is really easy...
13. Mmmm. thats good advice, and its all very well for Billy to say get in a band.. but what about actually studying music... ive been in lots of bands that expect you to be able to understand music theory and chords etc... i wonder what theory he knows and when and where did he learn....?
14. got to agree with thisnameistaken....for me his best and most well known prolific playing is from Anita Baker's albums.. fantastic bass player, but no.. it wasnt good...sounded like victor baileys awful scatting on his solo albums... sometimes great bass players just shouldnt do anything but support
15. are those Tokais that good then.. never played one... Japanese i take it? heard lots about them
16. from a friend of mine Kia Schwind.. the great mr Scruff.. saw him live in cheltenham, nothing quite like this though... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsVLRQAkclY
17. sorry totaly off topic but ET reminded me of this... awsome in every way.. sorry Linus... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp1nyDF9Wak
18. what a band.. love midnight rider... sounds just like a jazz bass.. thanks for posting.. im sat here with head phones on listening to this great music...
19. erm..... a jazz bass has 2 jazz pickups in either 2 positions.. that bass has neither... when you move or customise a pickup config, its a hybrid... that lovely bass is no longer a jazz bass.. i can bet it sounds very different... its like having a Ferrari and putting a Maserati engine in it.. it used to be a jazz bass, but someone has changed it and turned a jazz bass into something different.. it sound silly to be so pedantic and im sure i sound like a nerd, but the line has to be drawn somewhere, and that is what this thread is about.. bet it sound very cool though
20.
Agree it's not tonally accurate to the original, but that's true of many Fender Jazz's. This bass is made and sold by Fender and they call it a Fender Jazz so why is that any less an 'official Jazz' than one sold by them 50 years ago?
it doesnt matter what Fender do to the original.. just because Fender change it doesnt change what is an original concept.. i really cant see why there is any confusion in this thread?? a Fender jazzalike with a P pickup isnt a jazz bass... its a hybrid
21.
Here's a Jazz bass:
sorry but there not jazz basses.. why would you think they were?

23. a wonderful album... i always bang on about good music but these guys are the sh*t.... an amazing band... the harmonies are just out of this world.. only 1 album to date... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-V_-vlN5yI
24. this is possibly the best bass playing ive ever heard.. Willie Weeks on Donnys classic live album... his bass playing just rolls along so beautifully, just like Jamersons lines... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLUh70zp0LE
