1. not the worse slap ever but its very over the top.. his timing is spot on but his hair and expressions are.?. obviously this was recorded in the 80's or early 90's.. ive heard worse.. edit.. i just watched it all.. the timing is out and its bloody awfull.....
2. this is a total bargain!!.. i had the 5 string version and it was very very well made....dont know how they do it.. nice modern tone and sparkle when slapped... my pref would be Nordies with an Aguilar OBP3 upgrade but stock there great... the flame maple top alone is fantastic... i played a gold series, and although the Barts were US the feel was the same.... you wont get better for this money.... if i had the spare scratch i would snap this up
3.
Got his via a trade:- http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 .. and, whilst it's very nice bass with plenty of tonal options and a low, even action, I just can't get to love warwick's (and have another, preferred FL4). Photos here, and on the OP. * OM = Owners Manual/Booklet, tool etc. (included). It's got some nice, new half-rounds fitted and has been throughly cleaned/checked-over. As it was listed previously at this price asking just ..... £599 (for a hopefully quick sale)
bargain....
4. if there was anyone in the world i would want lessons off if would be Mr Miller... his slap is him, and is what hes known for.... but his fretless and finger style is amazing.. i cant deny i would love to hear an album of his compositions on a fretless and fretted playing JUST fingerstyle.. now that would be something..

Unbelievable price for a bass of this caliber!!!
7. i think this guy is the master of in the pocket groove bass playing.. for me hes as good if not better than Bernard, Julian Crampton, Randy, or any of my favorite players...even Pino.... the more i ear from this guy, the more i think hes the man... .ive really listened to his bass playing, and i cant hear any flaws in his playing..his fills are flawless, his timing is flawless...i tried to find a tiny bit of bad timing.. but its just not there...he plays with such character also.. of course this is just my OP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLJ3RDTvmVc gotta love the ole Gene Perez... i have so posted this lot before.. anyways this the making of that track with the master Louis B..... sorry if you have seen this before.... gene Perez with that jazz bass.. am i loosing my mind or does he have a graphite neck on that jazz.. and maybe a status neck at that...?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL-5Q0IlKJ4 for me this guy is one of the special bassists in world.. of course that is subjective..
8.
That is fantastic, thanks! Love the dropped one every few bars, that is absolutely killer - sooooo funky
just behind the one..love it..
9.
My dad loves stuff like this. Gets most of his from Ginger Tony's Jumpstart program on a Saturday morining from solar. Where do you find tracks like this?
Solar is great.. PM me my friend i will give you some details..
10. there are few of people, who really enjoy this stuff.. im really glad you enjoyed it 51
11.
This I like a lot! It's not what I understand 'growl' to mean though. I'm struggling to think of an example...hang on.. ah, here we go:
Yep like that tone alot.. for sure that is growl..... i guess there are different growls out there.. im sure its the fact that hes playing in the higher register though.. i define a growl as a certain tone that has very fast vibrato, in any frequency.. sounds like a pbass though.. sounds like he using an effect.. although i have no idea about effects
12. noticed a post about what we all think about growl... this is growl to me.. i will throw it out there and see what other peoples views are...?? as my growl may be very different to others.. headphones are needed.. this is very subtle growl and its on higher strings,.. but its there.. he has Lindy Fralins on this USA jazz.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d9eydCfTdw
13. Chris is right.. some basses just dont growl... but its not the bass on woods and construction alone..imo.. its a collection of things.. a growl (imo) is obtained by a certain string, a certain wind of pickups, a certain action, and in preamp cases, a certain preamp.. imo pulling the strings aggressively can do it, but sometimes chokes a note.. depends on your touch, and what your playing i guess.... sorry Chris , but imo a jazz bass with bias to the bridge is not really growl....... its a very focused tone, with no spill.. get a great roundwound string with a fat gauge.. not a hex core.. there way too tight.... you want it nice and floppy.. then if you can afford it some lindy Fralin P pups.. growl central
14. what price range are you looking at? im always confused as to why people cant get used to a different string spacing..its only MM's.. practice and mastering isnt that far away.. Stingray 5's or the OLP's are a great spacing though..
15. I love this guy ...spot on stuff.. always super cool funky soul... just passing it on... love this womans voice.. total class music...imo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyCWKP-MnX8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElfPgpB9sno
16. for a long time i have listened to people like Anita Baker and Donny,.. i always liked to practice a bass line to the way they sing..i want to say its the singing that i practiced .. of course this was in the context of a groove.. but the bigger picture was of these girls/guys.. especially Anita.... im so passionate about soul and funk, i always will be.. but i think this is the same of other genres, depending on how you approach it.. of course the groove is god.. ive always thought that in the contexts of harmonies in bass playing, this is the way i always wanted to play.... i love the singing and it gives me inspiration to play bass.. practicing Anita's vocal fills and the way she sings, i think gave me a style thats my own.. or hers..? i always like to practice bass lines from unusual sources..maybe from trumpets , or especially Sax.. imo its so good for your playng has anyone practiced bass lines from vocals, or an unusual source.. a birds chirping?
17. im one, who asks the shop keeper some advise on the a bass thats best for me..i then recognise if they know there basses.. (i dont mean to be an arrogant person, i just want a fresh perspective) also most music shops dont know about bass.....then balance it up in my own mind.. ive got my opinions, and know lots about electric basses.. but there is always someone who knows better.. i would bet Pete is one of them.
18. great player.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOJzRxlBRhI...nel_video_title

21.
It's an Eddie Harris tune. I had Alain's album 'La Band' (with this track on) on tape years ago and it blew me away. His technique is really clean, and so good. He's a killer player.
Thanks Doddy, did he do the original?... yeah i really dig his very clean technique in the slap parts..
22. thats seriously nice... nicest jazz ive seen for a long time.
23.
Your a tickler then
please explain to my slow brain Pete
24. Alain Caron's playing on this is so bad ass.....i cant think of a tighter rythm section than this... awsome Billy Cobham track too.. at 55 seconds, has got to be some of the most tasteful slap bass playing ive heard.. just amazing!!! imo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcNDp8JoJFM
