stupid stupid question about batteries
bubinga5 replied to christhammer666's topic in General Discussion
remember to take your lead out when not playing, as the lead plugged in will switch the preamp on, thus draining your battery... -
Hey, I've been playing just short of 2 years now and I've been practising strong 2-3 hours a night for the last 6 months, But I feel like I'm not getting anywhere, I've learned every scale and arpeggio in countless different positions, practised fingerstyle speed for months, listened to a lot of bands, to gain inspiration but I find it difficult to progress, I can't play fast, all the riffs I write end up being rage-esque minor pentatonic riffs, which quite frankly all sound the same, I don't feel like I'm really paying my load into my band, things made worse as it's only a 3 piece, I just don't know where to go, I can't slap, can't tap, can barely use a pick, I have no grasp of time signatures, just not sure what to do to improve, Thanks!
First off take a breather.. ive never had lessons and the best thing i ever did was listen to alot of music.. the more you listen the more it can inspire you.... my advise.. get a teacher.. a proper bass teacher, not a guitar/bass teacher... very few guitarists understand how to play bass properly imo.... your practice can be as boring or as exciting as you want.... learn bass lines from your favorite band...

I was just thinking about my past history in the experience of learning about the different basses ive had over the years... there are a few i would like to try again to see if they feel as good as i remember.. the Sei had a big impression on me.. as did the SR5.. as did the Ostinato and Fender CS... these basses were a great learning curve.. if you could go back again, with buying basses in mind.. would you make the same choices... For me, i would have the Sei again, The Fender was too heavy, but it was killer.. I just adored the Yamaha.. (i got another one because they are so killer).. the neck on the AV 75 RI was the best i ever played... you can keep all that laquer though.. wouldnt have the 5 string Fender Jazz again... or the Warwick DB... one was floppy, the other was too small.. with your foresight, what bass would you choose.. PS.. if anyone knows who has the Ostinato Jazz bass..please let me know..

Love them..use the hybrids and they have a really nice tone and feel..they sound amazing on an SR5.... They are not in DR league though.. the Low Rider DR's are the best strings ive ever put on a bass.. but there expensive..

Please, contact me only if you're local or close to London or if you can meet halfway if you living in the other part of UK.
Ugghh?

what do you like the sound of?

there is no answer apart from a subjective one..depends on the preamp and pickups.. they can colour or not colour a tone in equal amounts... influence is a broad term
For anyone dipping a toe in the [s]acid[/s] water, i can recommend the 'Best Of Acid Jazz' vol.1 and 2 double CD sets. Available from Amazon for £buggerall and a great way to hear new sounds.
similar to Bilbo's post.. some are, but alot of the artists on that album arent Acid Jazz, associated with the time yes.. imo jazz funk and acid jazz are very different.. for me this a great jazz funk various album.. The Mastercut series.. or the story of Acid Jazz is a great album to start off...
Wow, a lot of these guys couldn't be further away from what is collectively known as acid-jazz, I don't know where you got the list from but it ain't really right! A Tribe Called Quest were a Brooklyn NYC hip-hop collective, Erykah Badu was part of the Neo-Soul/Soulquarian group of musicians also based mostly in New York, Bonobo is a recent electronic artist on the Ninja Tune label (which did have some acid jazz artists on it but Bonobo isn't one of them), The Cinematic Orchestra are Manchester based down tempo jazz, The Cat Empire are from Australia... etc! I could go on, and whilst a lot of the artists on the list may have influenced/been influenced by acid jazz as a genre, the list isn't indicative of artists usually associated with the movement. [/pedantic]
i think he was prob refering to music that was about at the time.. You got Asymuth and Kyoto Massiveright though ..
