1.
From playing both these models I really preferred the 55 02 in terms of tone, just a lot more tones available for tweaking with the active pickups/preamp, which I always prefer on a five string bass. The JO5 I tried sounded a bit weak on the B string in comparison. For looks though it is the JO by far, as I am not a fan of the looks of the 55 02s, though they are great basses.
tis nice to hear some experience.. i love both but in different ways..a bit like the way i like Aguilar or Bergantino... both good but different.. if i had to choose i would struggle.. but being a Jazz bass man the shape would sway me.. but that 55 tone is killer.... i had a 55-01 with a Glock pre and live it amazed me... great basses all the same.. any more opinions on these seminal basses of our times???

 3. Ok i know these are called different names now..but.. im interested to know what you prefer in tone, or looks...im aware these are old hat now but there still very relavent.. both very different basses, in looks and attitude.. i gotta say i love both these but for erm.. different reasons Lakland JO 5 Skyline Bejeezus that JO sounds frickin awsome!! proper Jazz bass with some super stuff in that bass.. gotta love that tone... its my favorite really http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkvnISNFOqU 55-02 Deluxe WOW.. through a GK and what a tone.. much more scooped..more modern generally.. i really love this tone.. much more meaty.. i prefer the JO if im honest.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGqtXGhE3Gs please dont give any maple rosewood differences...to many variables in electronics.... both sounds amazing to me... whats your bag..
 4. sorry that was very rude of me GW.. forgive me please... i was thinking why would a bad nut not make the rest of the strings dead..? but if its a tight B string nut slot, chocking the string... your quite right..
 5.
I would check the nut slots, if they are too tight they might deaden the sound, they should be just a little wider than the string. Also if your nut is a cheap plastic one, it is better to replace it with a better quality one, such as bone, reconstitute bone, tus-q, graphite. I am sure any of these will improve the situation.
you wont like me for this but that is nonsense... see i told you..
 6. well im sure i can solve it if you tell me what your bass is for a start..i will take it from there...

 14.
I would personally compare Skylines to Fender USA, and Lakland USA to Fender Custom Shop. I have never liked any Fender more than the Skylines I've played.
i woulld say on both counts Lakland are better

 20.
That playing by Crampton on that track is killer!! I have Tales From The Beach and Transatlantic RPM on in the car all the time and just love the bass work on those albums. Mind you like Andrew I think RHT on Tribes, Vibes & Scribes or Positivity really takes some beating.
im with you Mark..those two albums, although now very old, really are my favorite albums. Tribes being very close to my heart....There is knowone like Randy for groove and very musical playing...
 21.
She's using a Ritter Cora apparently: From Jens Ritter himself: “Last July Superstar Mary J Blige felt in love with my CORA 5-String Bass. She immediately custom ordered one and I delivered it to her recently. Now she’s an official new JENS RITTER INSTRUMENTS Player! STANDARD CUSTOMER – No Endorser! The additional cool news is: She started to take Bass Lessons because of the Cora!” I hear the Cora is the most 'jazz-like' of Jens' basses - I really like the look of these, would love to try one out!
i gotta feeling Barrie's gassing for a Ritter!? i myself would love to play a Cora.. love them..
