2. owned 11 at one point..why i dont know...i only own one bass now.. unless your a pro,or in more than one band, i really cant see the point of owning more than one good bass..
3. i had a $$ and the sounds was bbaaadddd assssss..huge sounding bass.. proper muscle bass
4. i also played one of these next to an american fender and the Farida sounded better.. much punchier with more presence
5. if ever ive wanted a passive jazz bass..thats it right there...Celinder's like these are the Jazz basses your mum told you not to look at... damn the sexy Celinder's
6. i recognise that decking!!! what are the chrome knobs..non original i take it.. they look great
7. ok ive been playing for 10+ years, but i know very little about my amp, apart from how to EQ it..i know its a good amp and i love the sound.. i bought it because i played a jazz bass through the head from a friend, that i now own, and loved the sound it produced.. i know basses inside out.. ive taken every bass i have owned (which is poss about 19) apart, modded them, set them up, put them back together... i really know my basses, but i really cant connect with amps.. i just dont get the same GAS for amps... i personally think if its a good,,ish amp the bass will speak to you.. but its funny because thats really the first amp in your signal.. maybe i was lucky and got the amp i like the sound of the best in the first place...or maybe there is a better amp i like?
8.
I'm not looking to start a fight, but this scheme is just another way of getting into debt, isn't it? Nine months interest-free credit is fine, so long as you can keep up with the repayments. There's no shortage of car dealers who'll offer you similar terms if it means that you buy a car you can't afford. If you can afford nine months of instalment payments, then you can afford to save up for nine months and never need to take on the debt in the first place. Am I missing something?
your missing nothing..people are impatient.. but if you can afford it, why not have it sooner than later.. if its interest free i dont see the problem.. i was going to take it up when i was better financially, but im not that bothered that now i cant..
9. ive been lucky after a very long time without a band at all... im just starting with a keys player and a great drummer whos into jazz funk..
10. be careful..im not saying this could be a problem but pain/ache is your bodys way of telling you that its under strain..especially if it doesnt go away
11.
Sorry to hijack, but it's annoying when people quote the entire sale thread to say: "Sorry can't afford/do you want to trade with something you're not interested in/good luck with the sale, great bass!!!11!!1one" When Machine's asked us to use as little disc space as possible it takes the pee a little when someone quotes a post with a few large pictures. Kinda defeats the object. This happens quite a lot, maybe someone could put up a notice asking people not to quote entire sale posts? I'm very irritable and I don't like scrolling down a thread to re-read what was at the top! Um, good luck with the sale. Great bass! Truckstop
ha i was just thinking the same...
12. i would suggest a Lakland 55-02.. fantastic basses.. of course the SR5 is an amazing instrument, but the Laky is a little more versatile... what am i saying?? get the Stingray...the best mass produced electric bass on the planet
13.
I am a posh kid who has spent too much money!! I'll throw in my two pence worth here, I have a GB Rumour which was built for me a couple of years ago and has a fantastic feel, look and sound. Great as it is I am having a lot of fun with my beat up old 74 jazz bass at the moment which yes you could say is still an expensive bass because it is old but at time of manufacture would have been seen as cheap compared to a custom built bass from a bespoke luthier. To compound this I have also just bought a 1977 Musicman Stingray and I bet that will get some serious use when it arrives next week. So I can see where you are are coming from, mass produced basses can give the bespoke lot a good run for their money but ultimately it depends what you are really after, great sound and feel or that and a stunning looker too!! If you want all three then you have to go bespoke and spend big!!
i will make an exeption when it comes to your GB Mark...
14.
First of all congratulation for your 11th year of playing bass! Stingray are great basses, I have had two for over 12 years, I repeat great basses but not the best 5 strings on the planet, even I believed that up to a certain point in my life... but I don't need to boast about the bass that made me change that perspective, most people already know what I have found to be the ultimate 5 strings bass. (my Avatar is a give-away ) I agree wholehartedly: you can get any low entry bass provided its not really really dirt cheap that it falls apart, something like a Squire CV makes for a fantastic platform and you can have great fun modding it to your heart content, with whatever part takes your fancy, you can get a new neck, get some sh|t hot pickups, bridge, tuners, you can have one neck fretted and get a spare one fretless, but let me tell you even changing a pickguard to something you like and find to really enhance the look of your bass is the greatest satisfation. You did it your way and the reward is great.
thankyou.. well i should really have said...."the best mass produced 5 string on the planet.. that i will stand by.. cant really compete with a Dinger.. but thats just physics and a bass making master... your Jazz is wonderful by the way.. the GAS is all mine.. that really has to sound fantastic.... whats it like by the way... ive always been curious... smooth tone, polite, agressive?
15. This band for me are the BOmb... Aquanote... for those who care.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQvvrCn7kTw...feature=related oh yes... 16.
I'd use it to put towards an even more expensive boutique bass, £5K would just about cover the deposit of what I'd really like to buy, lol. Horses for courses eh
Jeeeez Barrie.. forget this thread..what you Gassin for? most of your boutique basses, are not that flashy, but very expensive.. i always loved that Louis J bass you had.. i can only think of 2 bass companies that may have a deposit of that sort of money..Alembic and Fodera... i dont think your an Alembic man, so im guessing Fodera... i bet my pants on its a Fodera.. you should really branch out and try a Sukop or STR.. and let me know how the Sukop went...

Fender
don't buy one? Edit - that was a bit terse. Fender Custom shop basses are really a different thing. I've played 1000's of Fenders, and there are more good than bad. Recently i've owned 4 Jap Fenders, 2 Mexi Classic series and 1 USA Vintage Reissue. And they were all great, i've just settled on a Custom Shop Jazz, and got rid of pretty much everything else. The other bass is a 28 year old Squier. And that's ace too. edit 2 - still makes no sense. Fender Japan and Fender Corona don't use the same lumber yard for theit woods, etc etc. The vast majority of Fender Japan stuff comes without a gigbag, let alone a nice ABS Moulded case. There are more reasons than are worth going into, but you know, find a bass you like within your budget, and if it's made on the moon, what does it matter?
ive not played as many as you And, but ive had a few..one being poss custom shops best, and there wasnt that much difference between that bass and the MIJ 62 i had, or the US 75 RI..in fact the 62 was better IMO than the US, when you think of the price difference..... it really is a mixed bag and a nightmare for a buyer who doesnt have the experience, that maybe others have.. there is no doubt in my mind that my scratch, would be laid down on the best mass pro Fenders in the world, its an MIJ any day.. and for less than half the price.... im stickin my neck out and saying Japanese masters would build a better custom shop bass than an American custom shop build.. i just think there mass pro work ethic is way beyond most in the world... i was bowled over when i played Julian Crampton's MIJ jazz..it was smokin... cost him £670......Custom Shop.. £2500 at least.
18. i always wanted to be a bass player.. never really wanted to play anything else, since i lost my passion in fine art.. i think maybe the style of music i was into, conditioned me to think that bass wasnt really seen as a backing instrument..i found it very attractive as this wonderful sound that could do the drums and harmony.. i thought the sky was the limit, as far as bass and rythm was concerned.. i didnt know any bassists at the time.. i was listening to Shakatak, Incognito, Benson... but had no idea who was playing.. i just knew it sounded amazing.. the first bassist i was aware of was Randy Taylor.. i had never heard groove like it.. alot are good but not quite like Randy to this day.. anyway i think Bass has always been cool..like the guy i didnt know who sat in the corner all moody, but when it came down to it, said something really cool now and again....a bit like what i think of the best players play.. bass has always been cool imo
19. Im sure many know this band..if not, this track is well worth a listen.. the first time i heard this was with a few musicians i know who are maybe different to me in there passions.. or what i thought!!!.. this was 17 years ago before i was playing and i was a percussionist for these guys... they played this to me and i was blown away... from what i thought i knew about this band, and what i really know now is very different... this track is so great, from what i think is one of the best 70's rock albums.. its a chameleon of a track... 70's rock to 70' funk into 70's jazz funk.. its festival of a tune.. i frickin love it... i was laughing when i heard it because i was so amazed how cool it was and where it took me.. it made things possible, in my preconseptions of what i thought 70's rock was..this track taught me alot check it... 20. Without wanting to sound confrontational, there seems to be a few BCers that only buy and sell basses on BC, with no involvement in any other aspect of the site.. where is the line drawn between a casual seller and and trader of instruments? i was under the impression that commercial sales were not allowed on BC.. if so what does this involve, and what are the limitations on such transactions?
21. you can get such an incredible instrument for way sub £1000.. ive learned to mod/set up a bass over the years.. it was learned from Bass Chat really..then experimenting, and knowing what you like... of course the knowledge costs alot of money in the end..
22. Im getting into my 11th year of playing bass.. ive had a few boutique-ish basses.. i adored the Sei i had.. but i really cant see me playing a bass with a sexy wood top now.. im talking spaltedmapleburlishroseofthemountain... im getting more and more interested in cheaper basses and what i can do with them mod wise and musically...my SR5 is the bomb..ok its a little flashy but nothing brash.. not expensive but is possibly the best 5 on the planet.. im not knocking the boutique basses but personally, and this is just me, i would feel like a posh kid who has spent too much money.. if i had £5000 to spend on only bass..., i would prob buy basses under £1000, and mod them to my liking.. i feel i have enough knowledge to mod a bass that could keep up with any £2000 + instrument.. but lets face it, most can its just personal...
