2.
Not sure if this is the kind of thing your after, but, 'killer' bass line anyway, imo. Courtesy of TM Stevens. I'm surprised he doesn't get more attention on these boards. 5. I have always loved this guys playing on a budget rogue 6 string bass ...Hes unassuming, got groove, impecable timing and musicality.... looks like he is so relaxed.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XyTKjtL65o...der&list=UL Unlike this guy... i dont like to knock any ones playing, but the fact he bigs himself up so much?? his vids speak volumes... 6.
Hi Sam, My immediate reaction was to recommend pre-disco Kool & the Gang or Fatback Band, but they might be too much like full on jazzy funk. Maybe Gil Scott Heron http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b2F-XX0Ol0 or Labie Siffre http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DByyEuYEvc
Roland i love Labie Siffre's album Remember my Song..... that tune is smokin!!!
7. This is very much in the vein of that Erykah tune... Possible the funkiest intro to an album ever.. Live and original version.. you gotta wait for 4.00 till it gets juicy.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJbNJJNDdUU&feature=fvst The original. 8. Come on i gotta post a Maze track!! Gotta love Frankie Beverly.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waSM0rXDLys...EC&index=28
9. Pretty much what has been said above, some great suggestions there..... i could add Incognito, Jeff Lorber..Ive been getting into Eumer Diadato lately, hes wicked.. Norman Brown.. My particular favorite is Maze...just back to back greatness!...Or some of the later Bobby Womack is great..
10. I had one..The US model... Fit and Finish.. well made... Was heavy, but this can vary..Bit of an uneven gap in the neck pocket....High gloss everywhere... I didnt like it on the neck at the time..(for feel)..some do... IMO the high gloss (especially on the fretboard) tends to deflect tone unlike a porous unfinished wood...giving it a very fast attack... nowt wrong with that.. Fret work was good... Overall VERY solid bass... Weight was too much for me..think it was close to 11 +....... Still would of liked a bit more finess on a bass of that price..it felt as if it had been rushed...But as we all know things can vary on Fenders.. Sound Loud! very high output.. LOTS of mids..Classic ash/maple jazz single coil sound....Cut through like a mother.. I used to play everything on it.....Can imagine the rosewood would suite me better.. Playability Very good.. The neck was the best thing about the bass..Better thatm my ole CS 1970...Could get the action very low...Its just the weight that put me off a little Overall..great bass...Workhorse bass, that looks the biz.. ..The Custom Shop wiped the floor with it, but the price tag says that... stupidly I bought mine unplayed, so as always try before you buy.. I wouldnt get another US model....MIJ all the way...Just as good half the price...IMHO..
11. Looking to maybe trade some Bartolini Dual Coil JJ, noiseless pickups for some JJ Singles, or other noisless JJ Pups..Great condition.. Looking for Lindy's. Nordstrand, Fender CS's, Wizards.. show me what you got
12. Price for the GB mate? you gotta put one up
13. Just wondering if anyone has listened to there playing without any backing...i was playing on Garage band and was suprised how messy my playing was with nothing behind it...its not the timing but the lazy fingers thats not as clean as i would like... Something to work on i think..the Modulus seems to show this up more than my ole Fender but thats a good thing... There is really zero room for mistakes and lazyness on a Modulus I dont think it helps that i tend to improvise alot when messing around, so a certain direction is not there... and as a byproduct after time, there comes a certain amount of lazyness.. doest help im not in a band...... excuses ....yes!! Im gettin sloppy!!
14. Did the previous owner stretch the strings when you put them on Zig??...if i put a new set on, i tune up, then stretch/pull on them..then tune up again... DR Black Beauties are round core strings...so the inner core will slide within the outer wind more than hex...its what makes them more flexible....They may keep going out of tune if they are not at there maximium stretch length....Over time they will go out of tune..
15. Ive seen one of these on TalkBass....ask there..it wont take long..
16. Esh basses sound really great.. i played this one at BD and it was knockout..really light too..
17.
hi all, im looking at buying another bass, im really getting in to slap/funk style, im using a markbass head 2x10 and 4x10hf cabs, ive got a warwick lx streamer jazzman, very powerful active bass! which i could be selling soon, im not keen on warwick sound, so not sure what to go for yet? is there any expert slap players that could give me some solid advice please! many thanks, mick.
Hi Mick.. Well the obvious ones are a Stingray or a Jazz...but you can slap on anything depending one what you think sounds good... My Modulus's slap tone is fantastic... I used to love the slap tone from my old Yamaha TRB6... there is no, ONE bass for slap, its subjective... Round up a few basses and do some research on Harmony Central, You tube... IMO you cant beat the slap tone of a Fender Jazz...Stingrays sound awsome too..
18.
hehe ace. Just came back from a jam, had a great time. So many great players down at the Mill beach pub in heybridge on a thursday jam. Yes i know what you mean mate. I think of the bass as the cement between the rhytham and melody. :-)
Rich what bass you playing now..im sure i saw a thread about it but canny remember?
19. versatility.. Ive always thought of the bass as the drums, with the added capacity for direction of harmony thats played, depending on the color of the harmony being played.. as Yoda would would say.. many variables may they become..
20.
Amazing bass tone, but the idiot mincing about the stage totally ruins the video!
Ha ha..(spits out beer)...i always like Chris's comments..i gotta agree..... what a bass though, and a great bass tone.. worth a bump
21.
I never suggested it was for a want of pop-soul, I suggested it was to provide oneself with a credible form of great music that has been taken off-course by the vast majority of 'mainstream' artists. You're right, I have listened to a fair bit of D'angelo this week with my behind the beat remark , but I stand by my opinion that Neo Soul is a genuine modern take (therefore incorporating modern cultural aspects, hiphop etc) on old soul music, a more thoughtful execution of it's chart-focused breathren perhaps. Si
Yes i agree Si.. I guess it is but you could say that about lots of music.. Did you mean it was a release from the more commercial artists that are trying there (capable maybe, hands at soul)
