1. This has got to be the best forum if your learning the bass..so much great advise and help from great bassists.. the great BC spirit..
2. Get a good teacher...Meet other musicians. you will progress fast and have great fun doing it..
3. Thats a tricky one as i havent played the new Fenders..Are you thinking new...The JO's are superb and compared to the older Fenders they are better IMO with a more focused B string with the 35' scale... I doubt the quality has changed since the Laky take over, as John Pirruccello of Hanson instruments was the former executive of Lakland anyway... a top player too..
4. Mark looks as if you need to hire someone.... So about the job..
5.
All the skyline lakkies I've had have been great! daft question and I'm sure someone out there will have the answer, what is the main difference between this and the 5502?
Pickups... knobs..Preamp... i think Lakland did keep some sort of bart setup with the 55-02... but they switched to Laklands own pups and pre later on.
6.
just don't put a big one in there or I'll 'ave ya
HE he...
7. sorry im being dumb...can anyone actually tell me how to do it?
8. Same here.. not one bass has been totally perfect... i rabbit on about how good they are, but there is always something..The SR5 was good but it wasnt shaped like a jazz.. i miss the Sei though..its being well looked after by a top player, which is good. The Modulus is damn close....
9. Can anyone of you fine folk tell me how i put pictures on my signature? thankyou..
10. Crown Heights Affair.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jph65JYc1GU This is fabulously soulful groove.... i crashed my car while singing away to this.. 11. yeah that is good... super groove.
12. Just wondered if the bass you have is not quite the perfect bass, but you are still loving it... Maybe the Tone is there, but the looks arent quite what you want..Or the looks are there but the tone could be better.. Total playability with great looks, but the tone doesnt blow you away....Maybe you have it all...interested to hear what you think about your instrument... what are you willing to put up with because of different reasons...
13.
Hiya, ok my last 5 string has to go. Its not being played and deserves more than resting in its case. It is in absolutely mint condition. Cash i have no idea. What do they go for? Trade would be nice for an active Jazz or Jazz type bass (not a MIM). I am really open minded on this. I am on the south coast so pls consider that if you are looking to trade. Cheers,
AAAAGHH... i want this... B.E you bass temptress!!
14. spank my ass and call me judy!!
15. Focussed.. if i had the cash my money would go on a Dingwall.. bypassing the obvious amazing tone, playability for a second.. the looks alone are more exciting than anything else out there for me...Just look at those J's...
16.
I am going back to 4 strings. Spent the last couple of years trying to like 5 strings but i just prefer 4 strings. They feel more like a "real" bass whilst 5/6stringers seem more like freaks. That said, i am getting on a bit and maybe its the old dog new tricks syndrome. So anyone looking for a nice 5 string Lakland Skyline 55-02 in absolutely mint condition?
Yes i frickin am BE but cash is lacking..if i was to get any 5 it would like yours..love them 55-02's..
17. QUOTE>I remember seeing that, was it Talkbass where I first saw it? Anyway, I thought it was really cheesy and naff looking, especially when you compared it something like Al Di Meola's Rainbow PRS...QUOTE>> cheesy and naff looking you may think Chris, but the colours are painted as a rastafarian symbol of unity and symbolize peace... and played by such a man..
18.
This one is probably my favourite out of all the ones I've seen:
its owned by 'Burning Skies' on Talk Bass
19. IMO..best bass at that price range Bar none.. every one ive played has been a cracker.. pre may be lacking, but if you feel the need to its a very tweakable bass... very well made.. to be honest its way past its price range... if you want you could put a US Bart pre in there and some US Barts, or Nordstrands, and turn it into a bass that would sound as good as the US models.. i had a 55-01 with a Glock pre and some Nord Fatstacks and it sounded better than my Sadowsky... of couse the standard bass is still great.. hope you enjoy it..
20. QUOTE>>it seems if your E string sounds fairly tight and punchy it'll drop to D and still sound great. Often an open detuned D will sound better than a fretted low D on a five string.QUOTE>> i have a Modulus..
21. Thanks Rich..good explanation.. another Q...when people down tune, do people usually use the same strings, or do they use string a D gauge string for the E, G for the A etc?im sure ive heard this before..
22. Ok this maybe a dumb question, but can someone explain how a drop tuner works...(for dummies) Obviously it drop tunes the one string, but how does this affect playing the rest of the strings in conjuntion with the e string that is dropped.. also does installing a drop tuner involve drilling other holes.... Why not just de tune everything and play in a different position.. im a newbie with drop tuners..
23. Never thought his would happen as i love 5 string basses, and love playing Gospel... but i have come to conclusion (for me) that 4 is enough..ive had many 5's and a six and feel really comfortable on both.. maybe im getting old and like a good ole 4.. No doubt i will get a lovely Lakland 55-02 at some point, just because i love those basses.... i realise that this is totally down to personal taste, and what sort of music you play.... but has anyone else come from 5 strings 6 strings, maybe even 7,8,9,10 stings but then after time come to this conclusion...? or maybe you play both?
24.
Dings are great but watch out the Germans are coming ....LeFay
i really really like that..
25.
Nice enough guitars...in fact guitar porn.....alright for a fly w**k.....but as we are all about playing music...not lusting over guitars...what kind of tunes are we playing on this stuff...and to who?
its only bass porn..nothing to get your knickers in a twist...
