Generic pic.. Yours for £75 come on guys this is a total bargain!! site here... http://www.jhs.co.uk/vintagebass.html collect only as it has no case but gig bag.or i can deliver within reason...
3. there is a good review of the Z mtd range in the new bass guitar magazine..
4. may be the picks but is really shoreline gold? lovely bass all the same!!
5. i think CT basses are hideous and very badly designed asthetically.. pointless attention to a high end bass, thats no better than any other...
6. If you like it why change..i may imagine the Bartolini 3 band to be a better unit though...
7.
Very nice. I bet that's a dream to play!
Apart from the Sei it really is..
8. ive aquired a top of the line Modulus VJ4 and wanted to give a review for those who may be interested.. im going to do a Harmony Central style review here as it such a good format.. Specs are Alder body Quilted Sienna Maple top Graphite neck Graphite Finger Board Bartolini pickups Bartolini 2 band EQ Modulus stamped tuners.. Volume, Pickup blend, Treble, Bass.. Trim on the preamp itself for adjusting to different outputs Sound.. Ok, very bright if EQ'd that way..you can get away from the brightness..it is possible to EQ to take this away whether it be bass or amp.. through the Aguilar with treble 1/4 and bass 3/4 it gives a super fat bass thats just amazing... The punch of the Bart pre is awsome with the trim on 3/4 to full....Sustain is of the chart, goes on for ever...Quite a modern tone but i can get some very super jazz tones...It has been said that these basses can get sterile in there tone..Not so..(well with this one)...Modern yes..Sterile no...depending on your finger attack... No dead spots whatsoever..this bass rings every noted beautifully. chords are very well defined..it def makes you think about your playing and i think will make me a better player when it comes to muting... If this bass had anything but Barts it would be to harsh..i do love Bartolini pups...again this is prob down to the graphite... Low down is a SUPER, and i mean super sharp punchy tone...this is not a Fender, but its like a super sharp Sadowsky.. its got some awsome sub bass tones.. Action fit and finish.. Flawless...The best bass ive played in that respect...Would last forever this bass...ive looked it over and i cant find anything wrong with it...VERY well made bass...up there with any bass on the planet...Action is what you would expect..set it and set it forever... the one thing i didnt like about the Fender was i couldnt get a low enough action..i can get the Modulus action so low, i cant get a credit card underneath the strings at the 12th...thats a graphite neck for you... Reliability?Durability... The best there is in the world...no worries here.. Overall Rating... Alot is said that graphite necked basses have no character..i can see why this is an opinion..this may have to do with the player and his fingers, or the strings IMHO.. Dont even look at those few vids on Youtube of a VJ4...EQ'd to not give the bass its full potential.. there is so much more to it than that compressed sound.. A bit of EQ and a good set of nickles have brought this bass to life.. Flats may work to...For playability this is the best super jazz ive ever played..even the Pensa i played cant match this bass for string height and comfort...its soo comfortable its like ive been playing it for years...The tone to start off with was not to my liking..this may be down to me being used to a trad Fender sound... Slap tone is killer!...lacks the mid of a Fender, when it comes to g string popping...think modern Gospel. loads of bass with a killer snap....could maybe do with an East pre but its still very cool... all in all, now ive gotten used to the tone with the DR's i cant find a single this wrong with this bass...as good as it gets IMO...you may say a perfect super jazz bass.. depending on you tastes of course.. this is not a trad jazz tone...i would say its a super jazz, with a modern tone..this is its tone from the Modulus website at the start...not the jazz me thinks but i can get it.. http://www.modulusguitars.com/v3/ hope this helps anyone who is interested in a Modulus VJ4 pics... you may guess who i got this from...
9. some people like a bass to look worn, without the price tag that usually comes with such a bass...simples! i would put a wager on the the thought.. you couldnt tell the difference between a real worn Fender and a Nash...Nash does it vey well...strangley Fender's Jaco Relic looks not so good...
10.
I accidentally played that at soundcheck tonight and it was funny to hear our metal-loving singer come in with 'Ba-doo-ba-wee-ooo!' He also featured on a Galliano tune on their second album, not really classic Galliano but Omar's voice is cool.
mt favorite Galliano tune...good call..
11.
So it is, I had no idea they'd gone down so far in price! I paid nearly £500 for mine! I suppose in light of this new info I'd say I'm looking for £200 then. Anything less and I'd be ripping myself off cos this really is an awesome bass. I suppose I'm more interested in trades now too! Anyone got a 5 string they want to swap?
im going to big this bass up and say i played one and they are frikkin awsome...out put and tone is is way past a standard Fender jazz..yes i mean a USA...fantastic basses..
12.
Hi All....Had this bass up once before but it really has to go now due to my current circumstances... I bought this bass from a fellow basschatter after playing it a bass bash and i had to have it when it came up for sale. It is beautifully crafted as imo all Sei basses are. SPEC....... Aler body with flamed maple top and macassar facing. 33 inch/24 fret, flame maple neck with purple heart stringers. Birdseye maple fingerboard. Side leds..[red] Bareknuckle p/j pick ups with demeter 3 band preamp. Super light bass that plays like a dream. There are a couple of dings ...one near the input and one about an inch over from input[just a dink in the laquer]. PM me with any question's. All the best John
Ive had a Sei and for this price you will not play better...Incredible instruments..
13.
Nope, Looking for passive 5string P or J
14.
You'll get a hundred different answers to this one but I'll start it off; For cheapish / nice feel / nice tone but don't last terribly long strings - Ernie Ball Slinkys First choice strings but expensive - DR Sunbeams Flats - Labella Deep Talkin' Light or TI Jazz flats (expensive) Status Hotwires are excellent strings for the money too.
all you really need to know is this 1. gauge.... most common is 40 - 100 or 50 - 105..there so many variations on this you will have to experiment.... 2. Type.... (Roundwound/Flatwounds) Rounds are the most common...there are variations (halfwounds etc) but find out about them later... Stainless Steel/Bright sounding strings Nickel/Not as bright. tend to have a bit more punch 3. Make.... (Ok this is subjective but the most common are.) Rotosounds Elites Diaddario Warwick DR's Ernie Ball (Music Man) There is so much to look into with strings to get a certain tone but this may give you a general idea.....
15. Omar...i think he is one of, if not our best.....He's killin on Reel Peoples album... way up there with Maxwell, Dangelo etc... he is a real pioneer with his own sound and look for sure...here is a few for thee.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eflW35YzGGI Omar with the Reel People..this is super cool... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5go8RadaTdo Outside....I think this is wonderful soul music.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cabZjvzCI3Y...feature=related Keep Steppin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3ENbGVUei4 One of the classics with a classic soul bass line... saw him do this in a club in London late 80's and it was incredible... 16. I think for the most you can get away with most basses for most musical situations.. for the most the audience wont notice... BUT ive always thought thats not really the point.....its really what spurs YOU on to play better and what tone you like to hear when you play......i play much better on some basses better than others...thats because i think "wow i love that tone" and it inspires me....thats the key i think...well it is for me... ok bass is new to you, but its always good to do your research and not waste money on mistakes...ive done plenty of that...
17. I would definately try an S5...very articulate, with a huge sound..very tight B string..VERY well made..IMO way better than any Fender ive had in fit and finish...Im a jazz bass guy but when it comes to 5 strings (which is i think you want if not a 6) the S5 beats the Fender Jazz 5 on build quality for most of the time...Tone wise thats your call..The lego you refer to seems like your describing a P bass pickup...(big fat Fender sound) in my experience you wont notice BO (Bolt on neck) to NT (Neck through construction) ive played many and havent noticed much...i have a Modulus bolt on and it would wipe the floor with any neck through when it comes to sustain..but this is most de the graphite neck but even so there aint much in it.....this is usual selling point when it comes to NT...apart from the fact they look beautiful...i always like to take the neck off my basses though..more variables to setting up.. the key here is to get some models on your short list, and see if you can try them out...Try a Fender Jazz, Fender Precision, Stingray 4/5...these very rarely let down..do some research and go from there...know one really does it like these basses... then on this bassis try the variants of these... Try Try Try..its you who has to like the sound bro... Keep in mind a Stingray is active and if you like the tone, there are many Jazz basses that are active which give a different tone... research and youtube are your friend...
18. good budget for a second hand bass....Do you have any shape preference? What about a Lakland 44-02 /55-02..Joe Osborn 5 Jazz bass,Yamaha TRB 6, Stingray 5 are simply awsome basses..the B string one my old one was simply to die for..
19. I dont think he does make them...thats a very old model...from his prototype days...
20. While Sei may be fantastic basses (and I do believe that Martin Petersen is one of the best bass luthiers in the world) I don't think they'll ever be really collectable simply because the instruments are all too individual and different.quote.... i agree with this...
21. Chiming in with more lovely ass tunes...im sure i will get banned for endless music posting one day.. Sounds of Blackness.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJ7WJYHK3zU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUGG4PsGSFk wonderful music for me this...
22. Had to pick up the Modulus to that one..good call Chris..
