I can highly recommend the dingwall super J.
Here is a pic of the bass just to demonstrate that it looks good too!
thats one bass i would love to check out...
Mate its up to you but i would def give it longer...you got to give your hands and mind, time to get used to that extra string...Rome wasnt built in a day...good luck with sale though
I dont care for loads of technique..i can play it but i dont feel i want to... i do love good note choices and feel.... i do love some of the amazing things that people do on bass but...my question is.....do you prefer alota feel for someone who just blows you away technically ....or
what would you prefer, a total groove from someone who ( i feel ) is playing in the groove..( keep in mind im talking about these vids) and doing the finger style thing???
my judgment is in my avatar.. i cant get away from the fact that Meshell's groove is so much better...but different.....maybe i just said it?
Tamas Barabas...FCleff 5 string

Meshell Ndegocello..Sonic Tonic..

im always interested in the opinions from you guy/girls on BC so i would like your opinion, on the difference between the two styles....
Lakland DJ with EMG's I assume... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Or8M3C6GuCs...feature=related
Blimey reverb city....
i dont know Victors playing enough to comment...are you saying his licks are from V's or just his bass/body language Pete?
Playing some V Wooten and Jacoish licks?
Doesn't do it for me..
Hes spotlighting, everyone pulls out a lick from someone else now and again, thats how we all learn, and an off the cuff occasion like that, i dont see no wrong.....i cant see anything wrong with his playing, apart from hes messing around...?
i would say your talking to the right man to advise you if you want J Shuker to build you a bass, he will know what pickups you need to achieve the sound you want....
why not just ask him, thats what your paying him for....the guy knows his sh*t like the best in the world...
IMO there are too many options to choose from unless you have tried them all in lots of basses like a luthier has..
im not one for hating basses because i can get used to most and personally wouldnt want to offend ... but could imagine, in only but one way i may like this bass..is the tone.....the rest i would poss not get on with..... looks, string capacity, looks, weight, and the fact that it looks like something Merlin played and then traded it to King Arthur, then he couldnt get on with it and traded it to Gollum..he couldnt get on with it for obvious reasons..
imagine taking this to a rehearsal...
i guess its a studio or showroom piece...

TBH, I'm a bit tired of the counter arguments that go "Everyone's different, we all have opinions, if we were all the same it would be boring", yadayadayada. What's wrong with healthy disagreement and slagging of some stuff.
Ha..i didnt mean to pull 2 posts of yours silddx but i was looking through and that did make me laugh...!
Anything with more than four strings, big ugly single cuts, any Burns bass. And someone mentioned the Warwick Nobby Headless - it is indeed one of the most ridiculous looking things in the world.
EDIT: I forgot Pedulla, a horrible, horrible cartoon of a bass design.
+1 i agree with all of these apart from the pedulla...incredible fretless...
Nice playing from Uriah Duffy from Whitesnake on a stock Fender jazz..dont suppose he plays like this in that band??
good god that jazz sounds nice...

i would without a doubt go for an MIJ 62 RI jazz...then with the rest of the cash put some sexy pickups in it...thats one bass ass bass....the 75 RI has got too much gloss everywhere IMO..
or if u want an active..Valenti, bacchus or Atelier Z
It means that it's up to you whether you like him or not, doesn't it. He's never going to be up there with the technical greats of his time but it shouldn't detract from the fact he was an important figure in Manchester back in the day.
i dont think you need to be "up there" to be a good player...you just have to like it...
This is a 34" or a 35" scale? And what year is it built?
the post says 34" scale..
is it me or is this a bloody bargain...i played one of these a while ago and the tone was superb...the Sandberg pre really kicks ass
good luck with sale....
Im thinking of getting a MIM Fender 5 string jazz as a blank canvas and tricking it up (if i need to)...anyone know what these are like....not sure what the preamp is like...if its pony, i want to stick some sort of preamp in it..not sure what the pickups are like either...
im thinking...Aguilar, or Glock preamp...not sure about the pickups...
i want to turn it into a boutique bass killer!
any thoughts
