I cant say that i hate any basses..if they play well im there...i like the thought of taking a certain 'genre' associated bass and taking into another genre...Sometimes this is not possible..but ive always thought you could smoke a funk tune on a Riky...Im not that keen on the shape myself but i would still play one...Ive never been keen on the weight of Gibson basses but i still like em... Cheap and nasty basses arent good..im not talking cheap basses..im talking cheap basses that are just sold with no thought whatsoever to the end product, or the user... there just sh*te.. oh and vastly overpriced basses...although i wouldnt turn a free one away

ridiculous...sorry IMO, when luthiers charge these prices i think there just taking the piss...what makes a piece of plastic much more expensive than any other luthiers piece of plastic...

are these jam nights based around songs that every one knows or is it total improv, how does it work?

We are like bus drivers, and I do not want to get on a bus with a bus driver who likes to improvise. i dont think there is any thing wrong with playing an improved part out of vanity, as long as that vanity doesnt overtake the song...i love to hear great bassist showing off from time to time and so do some of the audience...

I think the reasons, if im honest are mostly to satisfy what i think would sound good..there are not too many out there that listen to the bass alot,.. i think that changes depending on the genre being played...i was watching Julian Crampton play and evryone was clapping when he had finished a little improv whatever....ok it was Julian Crampton, but more people are aware of bass than you think... some people wont even notice youve improvised, but some will....you can bet some audience members wouldnt notice if say a piano, or trumpet improvised...but it doesnt stop musicians doing... its all about having fun IMHO...of course this is hopefully all in good taste and not to the detrement of the song and largening of the ego...

Unfortunatley Andy the GAS is a life long illness which has no cure...you cant stop the symptoms, but an Alleva would certainly slow them down.. .. Personally i think a bass like that is worth getting...it really depends on how well you gel with it.....the bummer is IMO it takes time to gel with an instrument...

Even then if its good i will listen.. where is your creative side?
