Ok was in Glasgow this week and guess what,... i was working a few doors away from Guitar Guitar...Walked in the store and as soon as i entered these guys were great...I went straight for the basses and after a few minutes of looking a chap came up and said if i wanted to try anything let him know as he would get it down for me, no probs.. although before i could get to the bass, one of the staff was "showing me what he could do" which i find really immature.. im the wrong bassist to be doing 100bpm slap in front of First off i went for a Sadowsky RV4 in 59 burst...The Sadowsky RV5 that i owned was a strange one as for some reason i didnt like the feel of it, but this... was a different beast...as soon as i picked it up and plugged it in, it felt good, really good...i was running through a familiar Agy ag500....and a TC Elec 210 which was lovely... after having the RV5 i knew the tone, but that didnt stop it blowing me away..just awsome punch from the swamp ash body, preamp, and general Sadowskyness, i just love that wicked little growl you get from a Sadowsky..with a lovely warmth...Roger really does have a fantastic pre... i had a look over it and it was flawless...wonderfull instrument...i can see why ChrisDB and others love em so...i may have to get me a 4... Next i tried a Lakland DJ 4..as ive never played one of these,i was firstly suprised at this bass...for some reason i thought they were active basses...Really light ash bodied( i think) bass this one...all i can say is it was very very comfortable, but what stood out was the bridge burp this thing had..funk city... Then i asked if i could try a Laky 55-02..i know this bass but i had the 55-01...i gotta say i love these basses, they are so well made, really light and have such an array of tones...the only thing that gets me is the neck...im used to having the slim necks of the SR5 and Sei... saying that its a breeze to slap on and what a tone...if i wanted a 5 for not too much this would be it..used of course... Then the great Farida basses..i played one before and i still cant believe how good the tone of these basses are for the money...not too keen on the shape but who cares with a growly, punchy, jazzy tone....for the price there i no equal IMHO.. all in all a very good shop, with some really great staff and some lovely basses...the Sadowsky being the highlight...oh and the TC Electronic 210 cab
I would think that There are a damn sight more Fender Custom Shop basses made than Sadowsky or Status basses. The whole Fender Custom Shop thing is just a bloody big con, as is their "Master built" stuff. It's all still cut by the same machines, it's just screwed together by an American "Craftsman" rather than a minimum wage immigrant drone. I've worked in a music shop in the 80s that sold high end basses (Jaydee, Alembic, Pangborne, Manson, Overwater etc.) & these basses would invariably arrive at the shop set up to perfection. The most they might need is a bit of a truss rod tweak if they'd been through some different temperatures en route. For the money they charge a Fender custom shop bass should arrive at the dealer with a great set-up. No excuses.
..sounds like the only thing it needed was a setup...passive Fenders need a bit of time to get used to them...There not going to blow you away straight away, like an active Sadowsky..they need a bit of time...My CS is easily as good as any Sadowsky in terms of build quality and playability.. I think that the new Fenders are easily as good as Sadowsky's in terms of build quality..the fact that Fender build way more basses than Sadowsky may have something to do with a inconsistency in any build Q.. and whats the difference in price from a Metro to an American Fender...just shy of a grand.. Yes they should be spot on setup wise but ive picked up a UV5 before and it was really badly setup...Depends on the shop... Are you saying that Sadowsky's arent cut by the same machine?..So what it needs a set up, big deal...i do agree that CS basses are are expensive though...I will say i picked up a CS jazz in a shop in Swansea and it was a peach...blew me away... Minimum wage Immigrant drone???? This thread seems to be about the shops not the basses
The trend of giving away free CDs (and DVDs) with newspapers must surely help to devalue music (and films) in the mind of the general public. It doesn't really matter what financial arragements have been made between the record company and the newspaper, the end result is a free CD to the general public, so the impression is that music is not worth much if they can give it away for nothing. On that basis, people might as well download music for nothing as well. I'm in no way condoning copyright theft, but there are some mixed and confusing messages being sent out by the music industry. Probably another example of how they don't really know how to deal with the digital world.
Music is worth what you think it is...i get no impression from a free CD..i think for myself and listen to the music for what it is, not because its free...
The Gold Experience, Diamonds and Pearls, Chaos and Disorder. Love, love, love them. Planet Earth wasn't great but not as bad as some people seem to say. Guitar was cool as was Chelsea Rogers although they were nothing new- good old funky Prince tracks.
+1000 Chard..those albums are class....Strollin from D and P is a master piece...Live for Love is a modern funk masterclass..the female singer from Diamonds and Pearls is soooo good... i dont care if maybe Prince doesnt hit it sometimes with his albums..i liked Planet Earth...some people expect so much of the same from the guy...lets not forget hes a very experimental artist..sometimes he misses, sometimes he doesnt...before long he will catch his stride and blow everyone away... forgot this amazing track......the coolest man on the planet.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4hf7sfEwr0...feature=related to be honest if he came out with rubbish for the rest of his life i would still love him for this stuff all the same...IMHO hes James Brown but way more advanced in many ways.....hes the last of the superstar musicians!!!!!!!

I erm...pulled a guy once when i was asked to play a precision at a party..i layed down Marcus's, 'Run For Cover' with all the frills, while someone played the bongos...trouble is im not gay... -
i sent him a message asking him if i could see the bass, as im a erm....Vintage Fender Jazz collector.. .he said i couldnt because he was away and he would let me know.....sorry i spoilt it, it may not have been me, but i told him to stop trying to rip people off...i hate people like this that have nothing better to do with there lives than makes others a misery by trying to rip them off....hes a scum bag... just imagine if it was a newbee who maybe didnt have our foresight and shelled out his/her saved up cash to get there first bass, and this pxxxk takes it and runs...

Could be a MIM but distrrssed ? for any bass with Fender on the headstock this price is low...confusing...if its too good to be true...it usually is..
This bass has been passed around a bit recently, I'm the third owner in about three months. I don't really know why, because it's a really great bass, both soundwise, to play and in looks. I'm only selling it because I already have two other jazz basses with rosewood fretboards, and I've just bought a Marcus Miller signature bass. I should point out that this may already be sold, but I'm going to advertise it anyway in case that sale falls through. The bass has a great low action and is currently fitted with DR Lo-rider nickel strings. It comes with a good quality gig bag. Personal collection from Birmingham is preferred, but I will post if absolutely necessary. I've had it set up since I bought it, and it now has a tortoiseshell pickguard fitted to it. I still have the original black one that will accompany the sale. It also has a chrome pickup cover fitted to it for the 'Marcus' look. I'd like £595 plus shipping for it. Trades welcome for a 5 string Musicman (plus cash from me). I'd prefer white or sunburst. Or an Aguilar AG500 or AG500SC. I'm going to be playing on a cruise ship from the middle of next month, so I'd like to get a deal sorted out before then.
I'm only selling it because I already have two other jazz basses with rosewood fretboards, and I've just bought a Marcus Miller signature bass.
