What do you want from your Fender clones?
bubinga5 replied to karlthebassist's topic in Bass Guitars
Usually the pre amp, although Fender clones arent always active... also the quality of Celinder's etc are usually far superior to a Fender..(not that i care that much)...My Fender Jazz kicks ass and is built very well, but it is a Custom Shop.. They maybe offer a bit more than a Fender in different aspects of the instrument, but do you need it....thats personal... you only have to look at a vid of Sharay Reed playing a Fender 5 to see! -
the only solo album's i buy...his playing is superb although any solo bass album can be a little predictable...prefer his side man stuff with Meshell, Chaka Khan etc.... Tom Jenkinson is V clever

Yeah witnesed that on TB once...
Just looked at his biog - basically he has done virtually every film session going in LA! As you were... Yep, b5 - I've been a big fan of mr 'knightmayorz', from the youtube clip on your first post. Absolutely effortless playing, never a note out of place. Don't know how he does it.
Jonny, cool you play horn's..would love to...you just cannot beat a good horn section...tis like a brass section on steroids!!
The music starts at just over 4 mins if you don't want to listen to the interviews. The amazing thing for me is their sense of time...it's so perfect. Also, I really think Vic excels here. I can't imagine this working without his impeccable technique and groove skills. It's not everybody's cup of tea, but I just wanted to show an example of how powerful and versatile the bass can be.
yeah the timing is what i find so astonishing ...perfection from 30 years of playing!!
I have to say that religion is re-heally not my thing, but that's besides the point here -- I love the music, I love the atmosphere and I'd love to play in a band like that! It looks how being a musician should be! Fantastic stuff, love it!
i have my own personal feeling's about religion...but that aside, i think its the religion and there faith that makes the music so good...the power of gospel blows me away more than most music i listen to..

that was great...was great to hear Clark's opinions on various things..i really dont buy the fret w***ery thing Pete..what i mean is if its done well i love listening to it.. period...guitarist do it and its ok..this is what makes the electric bass so versatile...much more so than the guitar. i may be shot for saying this and i did enjoy it and it did work very well... but i cant help thinking there are to many basses playing...and im not sure if it would work as an album i would enjoy listening to like others i have....very very clever though.. the playing is undeniably phenomenal...Marcus all the way for me, just dig his style and he plays the best bass IMO ...!!
-
i like buying second hand...new basses are going to get dings etc..dings just dont bother me when there there already, the bass is for playing not to look at...i would hate to have (i say hate but) a brand new Alleva or Ritter...i would worry too much... i use dunlop polish and a fretboard cleaner...the basses are always out lets face it relics arent suppose to fool you, there to tell the audience you have been on the road for 20 years..i dont mind em,wouldnt buy one because of it... love the Nash's though
I think I was at that gig - did you get George Duke in between Perri & Anita? We had front row seats (the stage was 'in the round') and at one point Anita came right over to the front & blew a kiss at me - I nearly fainted!
Ha ha yeah that was it....how strange..think you were closer than me though damn you Barrie! tiny woman huge voice..
That deal is VERY favourable in relation to their list price.......
Yeah i agree Chris but it depends on there pricing...dont think i would be loosing out considering mine...
I like the white with maple neck & tort guard look Interesting that they call it a 'player's' bass - for some reason that makes me think it's not in as good condition as a 'collector's' bass? Could just be the old sceptic in me again! If the straight trade deal looks very favourable to their list price then that would raise a few doubts too. . .
Im a sceptic too B...Mine field Vintage Fenders
What are you trading with them?
One of these...difficult one to gauge...im still not sure as the CS is a very special Jazz and there is only 100 in the world...price wise they want £2250 for the 77. which i high IMO.. This thread is prob not going to be popular as not so many people like em as in the US..but i cant get enough This guy is amazing..an unknown that poss plays for a church in the US..or maybe he plays thrash metal or country ...i know hes playing records he knows but what feel the guys got...on a fairly cheap Rouge LX..for me he has flawless groove.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XyTKjtL65o...feature=related This is off the top maybe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGJYmmVvZWE...feature=related Debra Killings totally killin it on a TRB6...WOW...shes soo playing fills when shes singing..very hard to do when you got a 6 string, singing, playing in the groove..very very talented person with a wonderful voice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeZK9BD90F4...feature=related just check this Jam with the band from Debra! gives me major GAS for a TRB6 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCzdKOadJUs...feature=related Like someone else on BC, this guy blows me away for super spot on bass groove..just listen to his fills and timing....check the drum break and incredible fill at 2.05....he makes it flow so well into the groove.....just one of a kind ........i just wish someone would post a vid of Sharay with great sound!!!!! he loves them Fender 5's ive got to say i would love to play in that environment...its got to make you a better player with that sort of music in the background..(if you dig it) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pATcvr3zAhg...feature=related more from the this great bassist Reed..this just blows me away.... Just fabulous looking basses..if i could try any bass it would be a Celinder 4 or 5 or the 6 thats on here....from my experience i never trust image because a bass in your mind can be very different in reality...i get the feeling that a Celinder would blow me away though.. the one i thought was special me was a Rudy Pensa bass... do you have any sound clips CK..

I really dont care about my addiction to BC..i have a problem that ive learned to deal with through the medium of electric bass...imo i dont (although i have learned alot) really care for TB...i dont know why...not as close nit maybe..not that i know everyone here....dont know about others.. i thought BC was taking time away from actually playing which it does a little, but the amount i learn from BC'ers is worth its weight..like Sarah 5's RGT thing..i would like to do this and i wouldnt have known about it if it wasnt for her and BC...and my previous posters expert thoughts/ opinions on pickups etc...very informative.. hurrah!!
I recently bought a 74 jazz bass off the forum and I was a bit worried about what I was buying but some good advice on this forum gave me the confidence to buy it and I am sure glad that I did as I love it! The annoying thing is that my fellow band mates prefer the sound of this old jazz to the GB Rumour that I bought last year which cost twice as much!!
oh man thats good but bad...GF what do you prefer playing.....and what bass is best to your ear...i have played all the basses ive owned to my dad..he says he likes the Jazz the best...its funny the way an untrained ear (well bass anyway) likes the sound of a Fender so much...
