2.
That sounds like my ideal first rehearsal to be honest! Sounds like it isn't for you, though. If it doesn't feel right at the first rehearsal, just cut your losses I say. Better than things not working out further down the road, more time wasted then.
Yeah each to there own Will...just out of interest what bit sounded like your ideal rehearsal...they were such a good laugh and i talked with the guys about music for ages...they loved there GO GO too...but i got to be honest i mentioned maybe working around some basic chord changes as a starter...we did and he(i mean both) werent playing the chords and it sounded bad...bad ears and lack of knowledge.. its ok to turn up to a rehearsal if you have a very good ear and no theory knowledge..but to have neither is a no no...you cant play at the end of the day...add that with pissed and stoned....why and how, are you playing an instrument ??.. im no pro, but i think you should approach it as one if you want to learn and want to play some good music
3. Went to a rehearsal last week...i was really looking forward to it... as ive been bandless for a while...So i get a call from a guy in Bristol looking for a hip hop funk bassist kind of thing..there into stuff like quantic soul and general modern soul funk i drove from Chester where i was working, got there late which was not good (i got stuck in traffic), as i hate being late for anything, nevermind a first rehearsal..i said i was very sorry... Found the place eventually..Walked in with my gear to a room that is the old police station in bristol...the first thing i noticed was the smell...Very strong Skunk weed..they were drinking also...the place looked like it had a major drug session the previous night..i mean there were hundreds of cans, bottles of booze, ashtrays everywhere... i would NEVER!!! invite someone to a rehearsal unless it was a place i thought was good for me and them to play.. Now i do smoke from time to time, and am a big believer that it adds to my creative mind, but you have to keep it in check...these guys were really high..and they were drinking scrumpy cider.. started a random groove going, and it got pretty messy..the drummer was loosing time, the guitarist's was thrashing around with no sort of musical direction...did i say there was 2 guitarist's..(my worst nightmare)..The female singer was scatting also...There were some parts where it got quite good when there was a little space in the music, because they could groove.... but generally it was just a mess.. what do you do in these situations..who am i to give anyone any musical direction, but i know when something is not working...they were lovely people who were really passionate about this sort of music, but they needed a kick up the arse to say open your eyes.. The guitarist said to me after.."he loved getting lost in the groove"...and as i do love getting lost in the groove, it has has to have some boundries and structure.. even if its a ten min funkathon... i hate to slag anyone else off, as every one enjoys there music in different ways, but i just think drugs and alchohol are best left alone when when playing music..thinking up ideas when stoned are great, but if you want to play and record them, you got to be sober...well drink free anyway, as i have recorded very slightly stoned once and i was super sharp. anyone else had any bad first rehearsals?

Check 50 seconds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vngZPF8WN8w
10. Do you want active or passive? There are some awsome bargain jazz basses to be had on here...Your nearly in used Sadowsky territory with your budget, depends if its your limit... You would be hard pushed to find a better bargain than this..A proper Jazz Bass...No i dont know Steve. 11. This all sounds like there are too many variables for us less experienced..(me)...would be nice to have a general guide on do's or donts, for those of us who arent in the know... A sticky (for dummies) on this would help many im sure.. come on 51m0n!!!
12. I often have issues with my amp sound, and different rooms...What sounds great in one room sounds crap in another...im also concerned as to wether everyone else in the room can hear what im hearing? Is it possible that im hearing a great bass sound but everyone else its too boomy etc.....? Is there any website for advise on these sort of issues....? Where does everyone stand in relation to there amp????
13.
'Baseball bat ash' hahahahahahahahahaha! I can't try it, he's miles away..
Ask him if he will weigh it?
14. Depends on the piece of ash....and ash isnt really known as a particularly heavy wood... The key thing here is to try before you buy...
15. As im an incognito fan and this bass has so much character i would have this over a new one considering its price aswell...
16. Think you need to haggle with the Gallery Toasted.. as they (or someone) told me when i erm...thought there prices were rather high
17. As far as i know Jam Guitars are the only dealer...they have had those two in stock for a long time
18. Well Robbie likes it...Top sessions robot on the forbidden planet...Sorry im an idiot
19. >quote> Chrome Saveloys!!! hilarious....Bangers in spaaacceee
20.
The best Shuker I've ever played doesn't come anywhere close to the worst Fodera. They're not even playing the same sport.
???...im guessing this may be down to personal taste...i very much doubt they are that far apart in construction/playablity... not many NYC players using Shuker's either
21. they are great basses im sure...but you would be amazed how people get seduced by a high price tag.....£5- 6000.. oh its got to be the best there is surely!! this goes for lots of consumer items
22. I have a rehearsal next wednesday in Bristol and was wondering what you all thought of the music, and how you might approach it..... its not what i usually play, but i like it..Love the lyrics from Jess... also love the violin in some songs.... So called Love is a great tune...a little latin in its feel..? ...and i love playing with a latin feel... yes i hear the sloppy drumming and bass playing??!!..how does this happen when recording? its almost as if a bass would ruin the acoustic feel of the songs ( apart from the said song) so im very sensitive to not change that too much...i have some bass lines that may give it some great melodic bass foundation.. What would you take Fender or Sei?..ok active or passive... Would love to hear your thoughts on the music and the way YOU may would play the bass lines...remember i am left open on what i can play (which is fantastic)!!.any input is much appreciated... 23.
The extra £800.00 would comfortably put you in Alleva/Celinder territory.
ah...didnt spot that....did i mention Alleva and Celinder?
24.
Yes you can buy a £250 Squier but you'd be crazy spending £600 on upgrade bits. The most you should spend would be £100 on a pair of pickups and £15 on decent pots / input jack & wiring. Anything other than that would be madness, and you'd be better off buying Fender rather than Squier.
You could be right B5 and im sorry you had a bad experience...but with a bit of tweaking, im sure you still got a good bass there though
