1.
Okay so I have only just re picked up my bass after a while. I never really took the instrument seriously, only learning the tabs to a few songs etcetera. Now I'm back playing it and I learnt a few muse songs to get my head around playing the instrument again but I'm kinda lost. What do you guys suggest I should do or where to go from now? Any routines that I should fall into or any genres I should look into or even any books that I should buy? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
Maybe have a look at theory? Get lessons? What genres do you like to play? Getting into a band is great..you cant beat playing with other musicians... think of the different aspect of playing bass, write them down and work through them...IMO
2. No but i have heard great things...doesnt Adam Nitti play one... i always thought they looked like something King Arthur would play... i alwyas find Harmony Central good for reviews ETC.. 4.
I do get that honestly............. I really do not know what all this fuss is about.. I simply said that I believed Victor Wooten was an overated Bassist.. Was not concerned with whever he could play with a pick or dig in with the groove... I was saying that when he plays in the role of a Bassist in a band he is nothing special... And he isn't I'm now going to enjoy my friday night and stop defending something that is just an opinion.. Oh btw I also think Strawberry ice cream is nicer than chocolate.... In my opinion
i understand where your coming from..its your opinion and your entitled to it for sure...I personally think Flea is a little overated but that just mine.. enjoy your fri evening
5. No that hes not all technique and slap...See above post for Q...
6.
Not a chance he would have me at an Open E Well maybe a bit beyond that But that wasn't the point and that video did not impress me one bit
J3ster i was wondering if you missed the point of URB posting the vid? maybe its just his style that doesnt agree with you?
7. He he i would love to see you out play Wooten on the simple stuff you sir are a merchant in the trade of windup
8. Wonderfull clip URB..that man has got serious groove...i love the detail in his playing also i learned couple more fills!!!!
9. The best bassist in the world, is the one you think is...its all to do with personal taste.... this has prob been said, but Victor is so much more than what you see on youtube etc... Does anyone know if he used to session work for different styles in the early days?
10. Guessing some of you will be interested. about 5 minutes in, interesting so far.
Great,i really enjoyed that.... i always like to hear what the man has to say....thanks for that Zach!!! Robbie Vicent also...i used to listen to his 'Big Beat Show years ago..he was great...i even won tickets to see Anita Baker live..thats when i first saw Nathan East play
11. when i first started playing bass i taught my self notes on the FB, then scales, which are super important and really not hard to learn, then modes (i couldnt tell you there names but who cares) that when my theory becomes very patchy.. Cycle of fifths still baffle me..why cant that penny drop? I have started to learn Piano and it has opened up my world as far as bass playing is concerned...Knowing the chords which your basslines are based around does really help IMO..especially when improvising... i still think as a bassist its much more important to be able to groove and have a good ear, than have great musical theory
12. Blimey, why do they wack the price up so much? for a matching headstock!!!... you can get a 75 RI for £1299 and this £300 more??? ok its a 50th Anniversary.. Fender should bring out some limited edition colors with matching headstocks, binding, string through body's, etc.. Its not special enough for £1599.99 Fender rely far too much on there image... (did i say it was lovely)
13.
For a moment there I thought this was going to be another one of those weird "which bass is best for Worship Music" threads...
whats weird about that..if anywould said that i would think they meant what bass is best for Worship,Gospel, etc
14. Modulus do offer a green body in there range... looks like the pups, bridge and pre have been changed, as they would have been a Shaller/Hipshot/ Bart/Aguilar combo..or even Villex in the newer basses..
15. lovely bass..but whats up with the string the wrong side of the string tree
