1. After the unfortunate disagreements, in another thread....Some of you may have seen this bass, and some i know have owned this wonderfull instrument.. The best Jazz ive ever played, wonderfull tone...Just feels great to hold and play..Only 100 ever made!!!......Thought i would post some proper pics.. PS, i do hope there are no hard feelings about the bass....
 2.
I dont need to - others have done a far better job in the wiki. All you have to do is read it. And I see you have been reading. The thing is, unless you are taking the combined wisdom of basschat to all your gigs, you are always going to be after the event. If you knew about clipping you could have told the guy thrashing your amp to turn down. I don't know why you were taking such a good rig to a jam night, even if you did know how to use it.
I didnt say it was a jam night?....But yeah your right GBM, i could have...I guess i should know these things...Well i do now, so the Learning starts here..And its actually got me more interested in how my instrument is amplified..
 3.
The Albanian's will do it for slightly less.
4.
whats your sadowsky rv5 like? was that what you offered on a trade for my fender? can you give me an idea about them please? Thanks mate.
Well even though i did offer to trade, i will say its pretty awsome, you can have a Fender sound, if you fiddle and put it in passive mode..Or you can make the most of the Sadowsky pre amp, which is something special..Very very light for a five string aswell.. I keep uming and aahhing about my basses..I need to shut up and enjoy them..
 5.
That is stunning what is it? well at this point i have a C/s jazz that im looking to trade for a 5 so thats its worth, and would like views. I do lots of recording, and play in a party duo (chic/sister sledge etc) With regard the bongo, i tried one a four, it was fantastic!
Its a Fender Victor Bailey Sig bass..i love them, never played one mind..The stingray 5's are awsome!!!
 6. Great Analogy that CK posted in the sticky.... A useful analogy for the understanding of impedance is that of a water pipe and pump. The pipe diameter represents the impedance of your loudspeaker; the water flowing through it is power and the water pump is the amplifier (or receiver) itself. The pump pumps water through the pipe. A large diameter pipe allows a large amount of water to flow. This is a low impedance situation: the large pipe does not impede the large flow of water. A small diameter pipe allows less water to flow. This is a high impedance situation: the small pipe impedes the flow of water, keeping it small. Low impedance, large flow of power; high impedance, smaller flow of power. I'm trying to keep it simple, folks. Stick with me. Ultimately, this will help you better choose your electronics for optimum performance.
 7.
Surely as we use amplification to make our instruments louder we should have a glimmer of understanding of how it all works. You have an excellent wiki here on basschat that explains it all very clearly so I dont understand what excuse people have for being "not technically minded".
Its not an excuse..!, i have concentrated more on my playing than how much impedance my cab has...I have posted this to learn more about this subject...This is why Bill's post was very helpfull and your's was not worth posting!! The facts of Impedence between Amps and Cab's are not that easy to understand, maybe you could enlighten us?
 8. Im not technically minded, so hear goes..I played on thursday night at a local night..I was using an Aguilar GS 212 with a aguilar 500sc...After sound check i let the another bands bassist use my amp..As he started playing i noticed the amp was constantly clipping..He was playing a stingray HH and slapping the hell out of it... My Q is why was the amp clipping? Was the (so called) Gain to high? As i said i dont know alot about amps but im trying read up on it... Am i right that ideally you should be using a cab or cabs that are roughly double the wattage of the amp?? I have been thinking about getting a single 12" cab of about 300 watts power handling to add to the 600watts of the GS 212, to give me more head room..( i know this is not the reason for the clipping) Also what is the best cab to add to a 2x12?
 9. Like is said, i may not spend 4k on a bass, i know i can get a great bass for way less than that...
 10.
Jake's comment about getting the right bass, don't think of your spending limit, is totally spot on. If you're determined to spend that sort of cash, I would be thinking of going vintage. Try as many as possible and find the one you know you can love forever. That will take time, same as buying the right clothes, car, sash windows .. Take your time to let your new concept of spending that amount of money on a bass sinks in and normalises. If I were you, and I think I know what sounds you like, a vintage Jazz is probably something you'll have a beautiful relationship with. But you'll need to try quite a few to get your dream I think. A vintage bass is something with real history, it will have the eyebrows, the funk and a completely lived-in feel. I think you're the sort of person who would really appreciate an old classic bass. Patience brother.
Yeah i have considered a Vintage Jazz..Im not nessasarilly going to spend £4000, its more important to me to find a bass i love playing.. I have also considered a Modulus Jazz!!!
 11.
I would almost certainly go for a Celinder! You know you want to! If not that, a custom NY Sadowsky.
Yeah Simon, everytime i think about it, i always come back to Celinder..
 12.
I could never get into Incognito. I liked Galliano a lot, but never thought Incognito came across very well on record. Same with JTQ - their records always seemed a bit flat. Have to give them another go.
??
 13. For me Tribes Vibes and scribes, Beneath the surface, Positivity, are there best,,Tales from the Beach is awsome too..
 14. Thanks for the opinion's guys..im reall leaning toward's Celinder...I hear so many good things about them...I wish Eubassix's old Meshell Celinder was available!!!! Also, anyone played a Sukop..?
 15. By some good fortune, i have 4 grand, and was thinking about spending it on a bass....Was wondering what are the top 5 super jazz basses on the market. or anything else for that money????.i would love to try a Low End jazz...Dont get me started on AC's....Im GASing over a new 5 or 4 string. so whats in my ball park? tis not a jazz, but I was thinking about a Sukop.. i have heard one and it sounded awsome!!!...I know there mega bucks though.. Im still searching for a bass that ticks all the right boxes..the only one that i really love is the Ostinato...i played it live on thursday and it was sooo good..The tone is awsome when playing gently, but when you dig in through the Aguilar its got the most amazing growl and punchy tone..There was a guy in another band playing the same night, with a HH stingray..and he played the Ostinato and said it was in a different league... Ive come to the thought that, although i love the passive sound, i dig the well amplified bass..the EMG's are superb on the Ostinato..Any suggestions on a new bass??
 16. Just wondered if anyone knew what fretless Randy play's on Tribes Vibes and Scribes..this has been my holy grail album for a long time, i know he has played Moons, Sei's, Jazzez, Fender's etc. But would love to know what fretless he plays here....Magnificent playing anyway.. I was lucky enough to talk to Bluey about a month ago with Jim Mullen (a fantastic scottish jazz guitar man from the Citrus Sun album) and they said Randy was the best bass player (in terms of a bass players musical vision), they had ever played with....I asked them what he played these days, and the said he was playing a Stingray 5 the last time they saw him play... The solo (if you like this stuff) on Magnetic Ocean is , IMHO,better than any Julian Crampton, Meshell, Marcus Miller, Victor, or any musical bass playing solo ive ever heard...obviously Randy had to think this bass line over, ..but what an amazing piece of playing..He really is the most musical bass player ive ever heard...i love his slide double stops and his digging in is so tastefull, in this tune.......If you love fretless bass playing of any genre..!!!, this i so cool.. may seem dated to some, but this is the music i spent my youth listening to and Randy is the man. Im gonna say he's playing a custom of some kind? Even if you dont love Jazz/funk/Groove etc.l...You need to listen to this album for the bass.its supreme...the best fretless bass ive ever heard...Up there and beyond with Pino for pure groove and timing.. Sorry i cant bring up a link..look it up. 'Need to Know' is a masterclass in JazzFunk bass playing..Awsome..
 17. i have often wondered (being a jazz fan) if its worth buying a 60's/70's jazz?.. I have heard you can either get a peach or a turkey.. and not all vintage jazzez are good..i may take the plunge and sell the sadowsky and 75 RI to get one..or are custom shop's a better bet?
 18. Man i love that Shuker Throughneck!! this is the only bass i have seen for a while that i have seriously considered buying...Must resist!!!!! i would need to sell a bass or two to justify this purchase...If only you would trade
