  1. I think she has had a few problems playing at concerts of late, because she has epilepsy. People being unaware of this and taking alot of flash photography. Tis a good album that Roy Hargrove. Pino Palladino is great on it too!! Yes her lyrical themes can be strong and out there but thats what makes her interesting IMHO..
  2. Yeah Bittersweat, what a song! very uplifting..As for the Lyrics on PBP, some are Political some Religous, some personal(Make me wanna holler) I dont think the album as a whole makes one statement, maybe several!... The key to Meshells bass playing is her simplicity,IMHO. The new one is not what i had hoped for, but good in respect of a different musical direction and i think musicians should push themselves into new territory.. Your prob aware of this but check out www.freemyheart.com it has all the session albums she has played on. I want to see her work with Prince,(which i believe she wants to do) now that would be funky!!!
  3. I agree Paul, i have the same bass, The electronics let it down a little,(mine is pre Wilkinson by the way) but a very well built bass all the same..
  4. I just bought a Fender Jazz 24 and i have a small 90 watt Beringer amp as well as a Peavey 115( so not amazing amps) and im amazed of the tones i can get. Everything from THAT jazz bass sound to a dub sound and everything in between! Great Seymore Duncan electronics, and sturdy Hipshot hardwear...And it looks stunning aswell. A decent bass is your missing link not the amp, IMHO...
  5. Hey guys/girls. Anyone have any knowledge of the best head phones to represent bass guitar. I have a pair of old beyer dynamics, but they dont seem to hold the bass very well( it tends to sound ike a fart). Am i better off with closed monitor speakers or open back? Any ideas?
  6. Got my hands on Meshell Ndegeocello's new album last week, I know there are a few admirers of this great bass player/musician, on Basschat.. Seems like she's really branching out into new territory, which i do like, but cant help but wish she would bring out something in the vain of Peace Beyond Passion, or Plantation Lullabies again.....Shes one of those musicians who are constantly evolving and pushing forward... Her playing is not that technical but she plays with such feel, and what a tone she gets from that Fodera and Jazz, etc... Any thoughts? By the way the album is called 'The world has made me man of my dreams'...check it out..
  7. Thanks guys/girls, have heard the Ed Freidland one is good, on more than one occassion, so will try that. Not totally new to slap, mainly use thumbing. Just need something to bring the whole technique together. Again thanks children of Bassworld!! Buba
  8. Hey everyone, can anyone recomend the best slap bass DVD, i spotted Alexis Sklarevski on you tube and he has a great smoothness to his playing. He also has a DVD out, but looks quite old (not that this matters)... Any ideas? Buba..
  9. I would go for a Lakland Skyline or like me, buy a 24 fret jazz, beautifull bass with really versatile electronics. I can get so many sounds out of it....Oh and you can switch from passive to active too!!!! Buba.
