1. Hey people, some money has come my way, so im in the market for a new 5 string, my budget is £1400.00. I was thinking maybe Lakland?? What are the best instruments with the best B string out there. Im hoping for a long list so i can salivate over them!! Thanks in advance...
  2.
I just added to this thread as I didn't think my comment warranted a new one but just to let you all know that I bought a bass from www.bassandbeyond.com and had great customer service. The place was recommended to me by Tom Bowlus from Talkbass and the guy I dealt with, Jim, did me a good deal and took a hit on the shipping as well. Worth considering if you are looking to buy from the States. Steve
Thanks steve, this is usefull. When u say he took a 'hit' on the shipping, what did thy mean? Sorry dont know this street jive!!!
  3. "I couldn't care less about not being able to slap" Maybe you should, learning things that you dont usually do, or dont want to do, some times opens up different avenue's in your playing that you wouldnt expect...Play as many different styles as you can..Mikey may have been correct in saying that you may be sh*t hot, but you cant see it.. Do you know, or can you watch any other players who have been playing the same amount of time as you?? At the end of the day i wouldnt get too worried about how many different techniques you can pull off because a band you admire are doing them...some of the best bass players i know dont know dont know any techniques..slap tapping, nowt. there just very musical..and that came from listening and being patient.... I know how you feel, i been there. Try different musical styles and approaches. And also get a good teacher.(i think this is really important) They will help structure everything, so your learning will improve and grow!! Good luck!!

  7. Hello. Does any one have a list or know of any European bass manufacturers, are most of them Custom?? Thankyou.
  8. Hey people.Just a quick one. Later on this year i intend to buy a new bass. I have my eye on an Elrick Gold Jazz. I have noticed that this bass has no fingerboard markers, i pressume they are on the side...How do any of you guys/girls get on with out fingerboard markers. I have always played fret board markered basses, and was wondering how easy it is to get used to side markers...I dont want to not get this bass because of a few markers..Just look at it!!!!!!!!!! Also whats the deal with Elrick and Cort???
  9. Wow! played one of these with a sexy top,in the early 90s. I havent seen many of these about... Awsome bass... Bumpity bump

    Jazz 24

Hey people, what does everyone think of Fender jazz 24's on here. Any thoughts?
  11.
B 5 .... Sorry I didnt think to put a link.... my bad! http://www.tascam.de/en/index.html go to trainers- and then MP BT 1 OR http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...roduct_id/33308 These come up 2nd hand on here quite frequently, thats where I got mine from ! Sorry I got the name wrong... damn neumonics .
Thanks bro...!
  12. This is the most comfortable strap if had.. Brooklyn Gear
  13.
Hummn know where your coming from. Behringer....... Could be your problem.... I'm not keen on them, DOESNT mean they are no good....! just not as good as other equipment. I'm using Bose Tri-port in ears which are £70 ish but you get to send them back if you dont like them! I would be very surprised if you dont! http://www.bose.co.uk/GB/en/home-entertain...hones/index.jsp Try them first (if you can tolerate in ears) as these are superb because they have a port which allows ambient air in.... excellent idea if you want to hear the fone, door bell, burgulars etc.... It maybe that your beringer is teh weak link and purely for practice the Tascam BT-MP 1 takes some beating as not only does it have some excelllent features it allows you to jam along to your fave music. That is the set up I'm using at the minute- Tascam+ Bose I have also several sets of Shure in-ears and a set of in-ear monitors also a Boss Micro Br, of all of these the above set up is teh quickest and best reproduction.
Burpster im putting in that Tascam code and its not coming up? Would i be better buying something seperate for practice. Like this Tascam.. (does it go through my normal amp)? Would it sound better???
  14.
Errrrm minefield...... What amp are you playing thru? Do you have a practice set up (Boss micro or Tascam) And you prefer over ear- on ear- or in ear types? need to know all this stuff first, as well as whats your budget...? nosey I know, but it makes a HUGE difference!
Burpster im only going through a Behringer BX 900, 90 watt, nothing else. What else do i need. I have to play (for a while..) through head phones because of people im living with so its essential i get a good sound. I can only pressume its the amp or the headphones, as i have a lurvely Jazz. What do you think?? Could i go through a drum machine??? By the way money no object as long as its erm... £150.00 or under..
  15. Hello people, im having trouble finding headphones with a good bass response to play Bass through... I have some Beyer Dynamics (not a very expensive pair mind) and they sound crap. I was wondering if this could be the Amp???? its as if they cant handle the basses lows... Could anyone point me in the right direction, to what to look for in a head phone.. Thankyou.. Ps for those using head phones, what amp are you putting them through??
  16.
lovely !!! but you do have to get the 100% gold look...get midas on those machine heads !
+ 10, i love that white/gold Jazz ting!!!!
  17. Hey people, im shortly to buy a new bass to keep my Jazz company. Im gasing for a Lakland 55-02 deluxe, but was curious to know what the difference is between this newer model and the 55-01. I know there is quite a price difference, but was wondering if the 55-01 was any lesser a bass. Any thoughts..
  18.
Many people think that Fender came up with a winning recipe, but there are better 'cooks' out there.
I agree Ped, but i think Leo was on a roll, with the Fender,Music man, G+L, basses havent changed much from his designs, other luthiers are just taking them further..IMHO
  19.
I have never understood why people but copy fenders.... not that i am a huge fan but it seems to me (outsider) that Fender came up with their perfect bass and every other luthier copied the plan to get some sales.... and everyones buying into it... surely if you want a fender buy a fender? If you want a different sound shove some better pups in... And if its the expense, theres always the Squires... not that there anything special but surely its better to keep it in the family...
Well there are maybe two reasons, either people cant afford a Fender and go for a cheaper copy, or people who go for a super jazz/precision,who want the traditional styling and maybe offer something that Fender can not,, exotic woods, better electronics, my vote goes on a Alleva Coppolo jazz...WOW..
  20.
Hi, Can anyone point me in the direction where I might find a resouce that shows the fingering for bass chords something like you see for guitar? Sorry I know it sounds a bit lazy but for some reason I can't get my head around how I would structure the chord.
Youngatheart, get the book Chord Bassics by Jonas Hellborg, its old but an invaluble source for bass chords!!!
  21. i have seen and heard Julian playing this bass, and it sounded awsome!!!!!! have a bump
  22.
nice to see that coming from a moderator i give up with this place
you need to get out more
  23.
I think I am now starting to get it. The distance from nut to bridge is relatively standard 34"-35" (is this right). Therefore you can't just go attaching a 24 fret neck to any body shape otherwise you end up in a whole world of pain tuning-wise (this is a eurekea moment for me). Therefore the distance between end of neck and beginning of neck pup makes it difficult to fit a pickguard as the distance is quite small. Hence, most come without pickguards. What other 24-fretters are around that people have had success with that have maintained that air of classic styling? Custom jobs included...
I cant erm...think of any, sub £1000, take a look at John Shuker's custom basses. Im sure he would make you something to your desires. Im sure many people will vouch for his work. Check out his website.. His basses CAN be relatively cheap aswell...for a custom
  24.
are you getting paid work with them?
No John, but the band leader is intent on making money from it pretty soon, and ive got to be honest, he prob will, because the music is V good!
  25.
How long you been with them?
About 7 months Sarah..I might also add that the songs are all original, but all seem to be from the same era, (dont get me wrong i love the 70's).. It gets quite tiresome when we jam and the other two guys start singing beatles songs for half an hour Thanks girls/guys
