I want to say AHA's Take on Me because at the time the drawing animation was so unique..., a few others are so great.... But no as always I go with the funk. Its early 90's Prince. Not for young ears please. When I first watched this vid I was in my late 20's and it properly blew me away as someone who thinks about music. Ive always been aware of Prince's vocal range, .apparently he could sing through 6 octaves, He brings it low down on this cracker. Anyways enough of my babbling. Whats yours.?

Whitney Houston when there were no electronics to control her voice. She lets her gospel roots shine on this performance. -

Ped,... back pickup groove on that famous blue Celinder.

I believe she played this bassline on a sunburst MIJ 70's reissue jazz bass she bought from Japan, from the geek Meshell information I have gathered. . .The same bass can be seen in this vid. She played it on all of that first album. But yes her 60's jazz bass can be heard on Peace Beyond Passion. Like this track.
-
If this isn't a 70's jazz bass tone I'm not sure what is. Heejune Cho laying down a Meshell groove. Hang on that looks just like my Suhr.!!
-
My next bucket list bass after my Suhr. Lovely Celinder Ped. Im jealous.
-
has anyone done this. If so what did it involve, backing tracks, drum machine. Busking licence etc.?
-
Alas its a rarer than rare hugely expensive instrument I've lusted after. Lovely bass though Cetera. And in no way I wan to detract from it but.. I would take out another mortgage for this bass.

Yes its a cover, yes she's a young bass player. But man can this girl play the bass. The detail in her playing is fantastic. imo.
-
It never entered my mind the nuances of the feeling of a pick, I'm a finger style player, so im open to education. I get the genre of music plays a big part. Maybe I should try.

Trevor R ..Her solo at 5.20 and her following performance on that Jazz is hands down some of the best melodic funky bass playing I've watched for a long time.. The whole vid is very cool. Her slap playing also top draw tasteful good.
-
Yes its a cover, yes she's good looking blah blah... Absolutely all I care about is how good this girl is on the bass. ive seen a few vids of her..I think she is a killer bassist for so many reasons in her playing.. imo of course.

There is a reason why Im so enamoured with this woman more than most bass players. Ive never heard any bass player play a finger style groove and mix it with slap like Meshell and record the music she has over the years.. Her slap playing is tasteful funky, never ever over the top. Its all for the music and groove. in my opinion. I. think she is playing a Modulus VJ, I could be wrong on that.

My sister being another soul funk /Incognito nut put this on when I went to see her earlier. We hadn't heard this album for quite a while. We both sat there just blown away how clever Randy lays down this bass line. His awesome timing, his double stops/slides, musicality and his groove feel is just way out there in our opinion. At 3.08 his 16th note playing is just wow..!!
