  1. Not saying its not an East. But its not a JRetro deluxe. Like i said the Deluxe has 3 stack knobs. And a passive 4th tone knob. Also crucially there are no toggle switches. Which there should be 2 of. Might be worth emailing John. Could be a really cool custom East pre. John does custom preamps and will build whatever you want i believe.
  2. Hey. Just curious was this a special custom J Retro Deluxe built by John. ?As the usual J Retro deluxe 01 has 3 stack knobs and a single knob.
  3. Did i say perfect. Still a little wonky. No big deal ill just put it up for £300 and then haggle for a few months.😆
  4. Thanks Ped, Lurksalot. Perfect.
  5. Am i missing something. Im going to be selling an East J Retro Deluxe preamp. So i want to get an idea of the current price values etc. So... I go to the correct forum and put in the search magnifying glass and type in East J Retro Deluxe. Then it brings up everything from the whole of basschat. Why is this.? Am i doing something wrong.
  6. Put Flat wounds on the Sire. That bass will do anything you want it to do. Its a jazz with a very powerful comprehensive pre, super versatile. Ive had 3 and you can get a really old school tone out of it. Marcus Miller knew this when he had input in designing it.
  7. I meant to post this take. Its a master class in groove playing. .
  8. Just to remind. His playing on this LB track is insanely groovy.
  9. Sold... .Loius Benedetti also. Hes part of what keeps house music with real instruments alive imo.
  10. Dont get me wrong I love contemporary music. But these guys are proper seasoned...Freddie Washington on bass, Boz Scaggs on guitar, Micheal McDonald and Donald Fagen on keys. Micheal's piano intro alone is superb. As is his iconic voice. Met him many years ago. The nicest man you could ever wish to meet. I just love what Donald is playing.!!!!
  11. Cant remember what vid it was that I posted but this is some of the baddest bass playing ive heard. The guy is a monster bass player. This vid is old. I messaged him and he told me that he went to music college and is a reader and plays the piano. But what a feel of a groove this guy has got. And his fills!! 😮 Thanks for resurrecting such a great thread to a great bass player.
  12. You will understand when you see the bass i traded it for.
  13. sorted thank you.
  14. Yep im very aware of this and have thought it over bud. But the bass im after is just wonderful. Gas Is Gas Mick. Im sure you understand. It is wonderful but sometimes you have to try something different.
  15. Sorry my bad. Its back to the price I dropped to.Did you want to buy it then.? Or is it just a query ?
  16. Jaw dropping price drop. 😀
  17. Im in desperate need of a hardcase. Anyone got one i could buy. Sorry if this is not allowed..
  18. Whats AOR Caspete.?
  19. Love this modern take on the Ace.classic. What a voice that guy has.
  20. This Rose Royce is the best cover ive ever heard from the master Shuya
  21. I would say they were playing a Fender 5 string.
  22. Not sure if I want to do this so i reserve the right to withdraw. And its really hard to price trade wise. Ive asked Martin Peterson how much it would cost to build this spec and its a little over £4000 (if this was a Sadowsky NYC I would be asking over £3000, work that one out) Price drop as I'm after a bass.!!!! Its a Sei Jazz bass, a lot of us know how well Martin makes his instruments.Totally hand made. Swamp ash body, Birdseye maple neck/headstock. The book matched olive wood top has flame and all sorts of burl. Its a lovely piece of wood, Brazilian Rosewood fb. Matching electronics cover on the back. The neck dots are surrounded by nickle which is a nice touch, Martin Steamed the Olive wood around the arm rest. He sunk the bridge into the body by 3mm for better resonance. The detail he puts into his basses are so cool. Ive seen and played others Sei basses and they are mind boggling in there detail. Brass ABM fully adjustable bridge.16.5 to 18.5 mm I believe, could be 19 mm not sure. Its the best bridge I've ever had on a bass period. USA HipShot Lollypop tuners. John East Deluxe Uni preamp. Bartolini B Axis pickups. The B Axis are a lot more aggressive and brighter than the usual Barts.. Its light weight at 8.9 pounds.. The B string is monstrous. Super taught. For a 34" scale bass its as good as any Lakland 35" ive ever played, really punchy. Its super comfortable body wise, with a very slim shallow neck.( if you want mm specs just ask) Labella steels on at the moment. It sounds like a modern Jazz. The East pre gives it lots of tonal options. Set (imo) right it is a beast of a Jazz Bass. Lots of growl. But passive its quite a polite instrument. Trade wise I'm after a Neuser Cloudburst, Mike Lull, Moon J, Xotic, GB Spitfire, Devon, Shuker, most J basses are welcome, sexy tops are more than welcome. 5 string only. Like I say I am happy to keep this gem. But its the GAS. Not sure if you have heard of it. No Fenders please unless its a Marcus Miller 5.
  23. Anyone know of any good venues.? Cheers.
  24. I think this is just superb in every way. Very funky smooth jazz from the man. The sax playing is so fantastic near the end.
  25. Norman Brown for me is Smooth Jazz among a few other favourites . His guitar playing is way out there good. Most of the bass playing is pretty special on his albums. Sharay Reed has played on a few tracks. This is great. imo.
