  1. Use the underside of your thumb (to pull the lower strings) and the inside of your finger/s (pull) to slap. There is more than one way to play slap bass. I call it picking slap. Sounds the same. People like huck Rainey. Abe Laboriel use different ways to achieve the same sound all the time.
  2. It's beautiful.!!!. But I doubt there is any luthier on the planet that can tell what wood it is from some pictures. Ive seen rosewood that looks like cocobolo. Its wood. All grain in certain species is different, depends on the tree that it was cut from.. I have a Sei Jazz that I know has a brazilian rosewood fret board, and it doesn't look like Brazilian rosewood. Like I said that is a beautiful neck wood. Its a one piece neck I presume.? It certainly looks like Cocobolo with that swirl in the grain.
  3. Slap is an audible sexy experience. Everyone loves to hear that sound. Do you have to have to play it. Nope. Just like you don't have to tap, play slides, Trills. Super cheesy slides on every bar of a song. The notes are the importance. Yep use those techniques sparingly. Reminds me of that guy from Guitar Guitar in Glasgow that I asked if I could play a bass. Before I could play it he gave me a not so good slap masterclass. I just thought he was a Richard.. After 5 minutes I asked if I could actually play the Sadowsky. He was trying to show me and the shop how many chops he could fit into 5 minutes. That there in a nutshell is what I thought you shouldn't do musically.
  4. I love slap but done tastefully , when slap is done like this master it makes more sense as just another technique.. Melvin's use of the technique is just perfect. But lets face it, it depends on the song. Look at Chuck Rainey's part on Steely Dan's PEG. He thought a slap part would work on that certain part of the record. He was right. Then again I love MK. Its just how you apply it in the musical context. There is no way im going to slap over a Carpenter's record.
  5. Eventually I found the Bartolini B Axis pickups. Very hot pickups. They are a hum cancelling pickup but quite aggressive. A different pickup altogether to the original Bart sound.. I recommend them. Still sounds like a modern Jazz Bass, but not polite. Labella Stainless steel strings are a different string for me. Sustain has improved soo much. HipShot USA lolly pop tuners were a perfect fit..
  6. I really would not let religious indoctrination put me off any music.
  7. The former for sure. I dont have the patience of a stalker. 😁
  8. Ill be honest I've listened to bits and bobs of FNM over the years, and the musical chameleon that is Mike, what I have listened to is great. then i got into Mr Bungle which is sooooo good. Girls of Porn being a favourite . I love this though. The bass line from Bill is really great and totally owns this recording. I know good music when I hear it. I think.
  9. Ahh ok. Intonation.?
  10. Sorry I meant to say. Can you adjust the intonation on any Rick bridge.
  11. At least you can adjust the intonation. Am I wrong in saying you can't adjust the truss on any Rick, or was it the early models.
  12. The only possibility I would play a Rick is if the cover came off (if I had a spare 2 hours), The bridge was the HipShot replacement. The rubbish Rickofart pickups were replaced, and the neck was replaced to a single truss rod neck.
  13. Definitely not a wall hanger. Dont think its a collectors instrument/Fender. I know the very bass you mean and it is lovely.
  14. Hello mate. I can't seem to get my purple headed paint dripping Meshell avatar back. Can you help.?

  15. . Simon is still on guitar. Andrew is still on bass. And yes N'dea was and always will be the BNH voice. Glad she is back. Drummer.. .Luke Harris.?
  16. I will be attending these guys. I love my HipHop. And I love Goldie Lookin Chain. They have the drop on snotty HipHop. Now this is down to earth UK Hip Hop. Dirty Rap was blamed for everything. Which is nonsense obviously. Brilliant GLC
  17. Going to see BNH and Incognito at the end of the month with fellow musicians and friends at the Mello festival and my all knowing musical sister. She knows her soul and funk music like know one else.. Great to see N'dea Davenport back with them. Some of the best music ive ever heard over the years comes from this fantastic band..
  18. I dont think so Mike. I use two techniques. One is playing finger style and using the back of my thumb to mute any ringing from maybe the B or E etc then pop with the fingers outstretched. The other is the usual thumb pop. My left hand deals with any muting issues in that respect and im very spider like on my left hand, my dad taught me piano and that independent finger style has stayed with me. . . Its very difficult to explain anything you do automatically because you want a good clean tone. Its a combo of left and right hands and intuitive. Im sure you understand this as ive seen your fantastic playing and your technique is great.
  19. I will go for the Dingwall Voodoo Prima 6 string..That bass is just wonderful. Showed the wife. She told me I'm not having any tea tonight.
