Haven't seen this preamp before, and not sure when he introduced it probably years and I just haven't seen it. Does anyone have one of these.? Is it just a less comprehensive J Retro.? https://www.east-uk.com/index.php/bass/j-retro/j-tone101.html

I need a quality guard for my Lakland 4460. Could the BassDoc make me one.?
-
No not those ones. These ones. ! Are these all universal for shaft length width etc.?. I need some for a Lakland 44-60. These are from Gear 4 Music for about a tenner.. Cheers.

Lots of stuff I dig. This is a cracker. Lots of groove I do love. Not taking anything away from Melvins fantastic playing but I would love to hear Pino Palladino play this bass line. Its perfect for some of his incredible groove and fills.

Absolutely absurd parallel.Shrewd and Savvy are not words I would use to describe Micheal Jackson in these years. The guy was a wreck. Its well documented (although Adolph never wrote anything down) that Adolf Hitler was responsible for ordering through his henchmen the deaths of millions of Jews. There is no evidence that Micheal Jackson molested children. Pure conjecture. He was still a child mentally himself, especially as his mental health deteriorated . This was normal behaviour for him, to have a sleep over with kids, and there is no evidence that the sleepovers were of a sexual nature. Trying to say some bloke down the road who slept with young boys compared to a very unstable man who was lets face it, was mentally destroyed by his father and the media and cocooned into a whole different world of total fantasy is equally absurd. Im no MJ super fan, but its not hard to see what he was and what happened to him over 20+ years. . He was innocent, but not in the same way the law sees it. He shouldn't have put himself in that situation, but he wasn't a so called evil molester of children. imo

Got to be steels surely.

The Purdie shuffle with some of the finest laid back playing from Chuck Rainey. Its such a fantastic rhythm section. Then put the chords and sprinkles on top. Those who know Steely Dan. Know.

Went for a Jam with a new drummer this evening. Using a 210. The bass has a John East preamp and I really couldn't get a good sound out of it. Couldn't hear the highs at all or the upper mids.Slapping was pointless, as the popping was inaudible. I didn't want to fiddle around too much while playing with a new drummer. So just switched to passive and there it was.! Everything was even. I just used the amp to tinker with the bass and mids. I was really surprised how good it sounded over the active circuit . Maybe im a passive guy after all. Next ill be buying a P Bass. An active circuit sounds so good through headphones at home, or without a loud drummer or maybe im just crap at eq'ing the pre in a live/rehearsal scenario. I will say the MXR Octave pedal sounds awesome with a passive bass.

Im also (ndegeocello) free as a bird.

The importance of a good drummer, the pocket and groove

"I genuinely believe a drummer should not play in a gigging band until they have 10 years of play/practice under their belt" Total nonsense imo. .. I know drummers who have been playing for 2/3/4 years who could smoke ( live and recorded) drummers who have been playing for 20/30 years. And you can switch that around. -
Its the feel and tension of strings, as well as other factors. I know unplugged when a B string is going to sound floppy and dull amplified. Maybe, just maybe that floppy B string is down to string/adjustment/fitting. The amp sound if its set flat is just the end result of what is put through it. I find it quite strange that anyone might think that the amp is making a difference.(or maybe if you EQ it in a way ?) You might try, but imo you can't amplify a good tone if the tone in the first place isn't good.

Most good amps, cabs can handle and articulate a low B. A great defined B string comes from the bass. Period. The source.

Am I right in saying this was suicide.? Sorry didn't read all of the posts.

With all respect. I had two basses a while back. One was a Fender 5 string jazz and the other was Lakland 5502. Same Aguilar amp, same 212 speaker. Same eq settings. The Fender B string was awful. Floppy no definition. The Lakland 5502 was the best B string ive ever heard. Just sayin.

The first track I learned all the way through. Did I get it bang on note and groove wise, yep. Did I understand back then the theory/chord changes behind what Randy Taylor was doing. Nope. was great fun though.

I think we might all agree there is no one defining thing that gives you a clear defined B string. Nothing to do with any amp imo. Its a combination of bass, pickups, neck construction, scale length, string choice. I will say that a stock Lakland 55-02 has the best B string that I've ever played/heard. LH3 pickups/preamp DR Fat Beams were used on the instrument. The B note was fantastic.

There is a slight problem. When you bend a B string, it can be difficult to get that bended string width into the tuner,(depending on the hole size of your tuner shaft). But its doable
-
The way you fit the strings can give you a better definition. Before you cut the length bend the string and then cut the string after the bend. Especially with round core strings as the core will slip inside the outside wind or become less tensionised (no that's not a word). Just a tip that I use.

AAHHH. Yes the USA lollypops. your are the man Nathan. Thanks mate.!!!

Basically I have proceeded to put the new tuners on my bass to find out they are all the same. That being on a 5 string one tuner is reversed. I have received one wrong tuner. So the bass has no strings on it, so the neck is not under tension. Is this ok for a while.? I could put the one old tuner on and string her up I suppose. Just wondering whether to bother. Thanks
