  1. Me too. A super high action imo is my only achilles heel. But there is no need for it imo. I dont care how hard you play to let your strings ring. A pick player who plays heavy rock can get away with it. But finger style . You dont have to work that hard with your left hand/or right hand may it be the case your left handed.
  2. I really mean it. If the Sei sounded like a Sire V7 5ver I would be very happy. Thats why im going to see Mark at Bass Direct with the Sei on Saturday. The Barts are a little too polite.
  3. Its been said before. They are a game changer for the budget instrument. They are just superb. The cherry on top is the preamp and the pickups. Just as good if not better than the USA preamps and pickups they put in Indonesian Laklands which are the superb LH3. The comprehensive pre with its mid sweep takes some knowledge of what's going on. My only disappointment was the weight. I would go as far to say the 3 Sire V7's, 2 5vers and a Vintage 4 I had sounded better than my Sei Jazz. The alder V7 5 ver was a Marcus Miller sounding beast tonally. If I had to downsize my bass, there is no other option I would consider. Just a lighter one. and that is the only ball they dropped. imo
  4. Get out and play with other musicians. A book cant teach you that interaction.
  5. Not sure of musicians in general. But the best book for learning Bass is this. Written by Stephan Richter. THE most comprehensive book on how to play bass. 2 CDs. From basic to pro level.. With lots of techniques at the end of the book. Me. I got bored of the CDs. I just watched a lot of YT and listened to a huge amount of music. I wore out my tape player trying to work out how Randy Taylor play a certain bassline. Nothing compares to playing bass along to music you love. And the jam experience with live .musicians. Imo
  6. I presume you mean the Corvette.?I had a Warwick $$ Corvette 5 string in black with the grain showing. The sound was HUGE.! and in a very good way. Bass ball bat neck but you get used to it.. Hold out for one. From what I know the Esh has a single EMG MM pup, or is it the 2 x EMG pickup your looking at. The Warwick has way more switchable tonal options if the Esh has the single MM. This is the bass I had. Without the Just a nut bridge I may add. So I believe was an early Corvette.
  7. Ive heard this a lot, and its not a rant, just an observation on the physicalities of playing bass. I don't mean to be insensitive to other bass players as everyone is different in there technique and playing style. And I certainly have plenty of flaws in my own playing. Ive played a lot of basses over the years. 24 fret, 35 inch scale. Short scale. 18mm 16mm 20mm string spacing 6 string 5's 4's , necks from a C to a D and V shaped. . Ive heard, I can't play an 18mm spacing bass because I'm used to 19mm spacing. Its 1 mm. Surely your hand can adapt to 1 mm. Neck shapes. Surely your human hand can adapt to a slightly different neck shape. Im not claiming to be the best bass player on BassChat, but if any bass is put in front of me my hand can (eventually) adapt to neck depth, shape, string spacing. 6 string 4 string. I will admit that a 16mm 5 string bass isn't the easiest to slap on. . Is it being fussy/un adaptable or just what players want to stick with because they have been playing certain instrument dynamics/measurements for so long..?
  8. He says it plays itself so Tal must be in the package deal surely. Lovely bass.
  9. I cant really say i consider them a Rock band. The crossed genres along time ago. Imo.
  10. One of the greatest bands to ever record music. Nothing was a mistake. (Apart from Raineys slap part on Peg) Preplanned genius. Gutted i missed them. They could go on all they liked. Imo
  11. Its a Fender Victor Bailey as the YT title says but they are as hard to to find as rocking horse s**t. Sounds really great, and what I expect a Jazz Bass should sound like. And yes he is bat s**t crazy but Johnny can play. Mahogany body with a Koa top. Thanks Normski.!! I want one.
  12. Yeah thought it was Clavinet sounding.Any idea how one might recreate this on a bass. Im asking for my sisters husband. He plays a Jazz Bass, he has a chorus pedal also.
  13. The line at the start. Im pretty sure its not a Rhodes. CasaPete please help.😀
  14. As per title. This ELO record what is he using. Cant think what it might be. Or is it a keyboard.? Cheers.
  15. I really like the thought of a lower priced Xotic. I believe they use the same pickups and preamp as the USA models. Very much like Lakland.
  16. I was referring to the Skyline series. Some of the Skyline Joe Osborns I've played are better than some of the Fender CS's ive played.
  17. Or this. Untill you experience/hear the tone from a Sire V7 you wont understand. Its epic.
  18. I wouldnt go anywhere near a Fender Jazz 5 string, especially the 5 in a row tuner basses. Lakland do it so much better and cheaper. I had a Fender American Jazz 5 and the B string was just a floppy mess. Of course this is not case with all Fender 5 string jazz basses depending on the year, just my experience. A Lakland Joe Osbourne is way better instrument. Imo.
  19. Brilliant stuff.
  20. `I really think he learnt how to play like that from his upright bass and years of walking basslines. I think he had mastered his craft when he was playing his P bass on his back drunk playing in the Motown studios.
  21. 😂 . Yes im embarrassed . Of course its brilliant. Sorry I thought you were being sarcastic.
  22. But don't blow smoke up his bum hole. Tell us how you really feel YouMa.
  23. The Tom Robinson band weren't for me im afraid.
  24. Specifically this Jackson's record. When I first heard this I was blown away by the bassline. The chromatic lines he plays in a lot of stuff is so fantastic. Love the way he surrounds the chords with that bouncing bassline. There is not a boring note he plays. Its always something interesting and so for the music.
