  1. As the title says, has anyone near me an acoustic bass I can borrow for the evening. Im in evesham. Of course it will treated with the utmost care as I treat my own gear. Im not sure if the jam will go ahead yet, but I just might need one.
  2. Sei (Martin Peterson). Is still making basses. Might be a little over your budget. You would have to ask him/specs etc.
  3. I've got the Polytune Unitune. Excellent clip on tuner. Tunes a B string well. Cheap, small, swivels into any postition. Couldn't ask for more. You can ( I think) turn the display upside down if you want clip it for back of head stock viewing.
  4. I guess this comes down to what is a full set up.?
  5. The DR's are £40 +. I wouldn't expect a string change.
  6. He's got the bass. Too embarrassing to turn up and take it back and say he's charging too much. You live you learn.
  7. I will see how it plays when I get it back. If its not perfect I will go elsewhere.
  8. No fret work. The bass played perfectly before the string change.
  9. Did I mention he is the set up guy comparable to Yoda.?
  10. This would have, in hindsight been the logical thing to do. Tighter strings pulling the neck. adjust the truss. Its all about learning I guess.
  11. Strange because Mr Overwater in a Scott bass lessons vid says if your action is high, adjust the bridge only.
  12. Its just a set up to get the action/neck right. Ive put on brand new strings. He said the intonation is off, which is weird as I set that myself. (open string 12th fret/harmonics etc) Its convenient because he's literally 100 yards down the road from me. He said it will take a week and a half..Im thinking its expensive, but for convenience, petrol etc.. Im expecting a very well playing Sei Jazz bass.
  13. Took the bass in for a look at with my local tech guy. . Bought some much tighter strings. They were DR Fats, then changed them for some DR low riders. The former being a round core, the new being a hex core, so a lot more of a stiffer string, so it pulled the action really high. I was always told that you should adjust the action from the bridge only. Tried that, and got buzzing up to and past the 12th fret. I only tried the B and E. Logically I guess I should have adjusted the truss rod. Then thought I need to take it to my tech guy. I guess its two questions. Should I have adjusted the truss rod and is £65 expensive for a full set up.? I rarely need a set up on my basses so haven't had a bass set up for a while. sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
  14. But just not when other band members feel like overdoing it too
  15. Nothing wrong over playing. It's just choosing when to. Imo.
  16. Eye watering for sure. I still want one.I care not for Sadowsky etc. My holy grail of Jazz Basses are Pensa's.I like the rare and unknown one offs like my Sei. They just don't get talked about in the UK.
  17. Uprooting the Hip Hop. This is just fabulous from the old school master KRS1 and DJ Premier.
  18. it was very much like this style of Celinder. They don't seem to go for the same sort of money as the Jazz basses
  19. Celinder are an instrument not many will play I guess. Is he still making them.? Ive never played one. They seem to be the holy grail when it comes to Jazz basses.Whether this is a myth or not.? His 6 string basses I've seen go for very low prices. I nearly bought one before I got the Sei.
  20. Im aware it was written by the late Walter Becker. But I do love this version on this album..
  21. My favourite subject..American made Super Jazz Basses. OOhhh let me think for a second. Xotic, Low End, Pensa, Sadowsky, Suhr, Lull, FClef, Modulus, Pavel,Valenti. The list goes on. Xotic Imo make the best modern Jazz bass today. Just my opinion. Pensa Jazz basses are just pure jazz bass porn. But they are very expensive for a jazz bass. If my coin was on the line it would be this. Pensa Jazz 5 in cherry burst quilted maple.
  22. Just spotted this. Im sure the more experienced musicians out there are very aware. But some may not be. A good well thought out vid on why your place is your place and why your favourite licks are best kept for moments in a song.. Too many voices trying to put a point across in a conversation never works.
  23. Ive never owned a P Bass. Played a 82 JV Squire once. was nice. But I just can't bring myself to buy a bass that only really has one tone. Im sure it works well in a band situation. Like Cuzzie said I can get close to a P Bass with a Jazz. But you can't get anywhere near a Jazz Bass tone with a P Bass. The Sei i play now can get both with the East Pre. Was the same with the SR5 H I owned. Amazing tone, but not very versatile.
