  1. Eye watering for sure. I still want one.I care not for Sadowsky etc. My holy grail of Jazz Basses are Pensa's.I like the rare and unknown one offs like my Sei. They just don't get talked about in the UK.
  2. Uprooting the Hip Hop. This is just fabulous from the old school master KRS1 and DJ Premier.
  3. it was very much like this style of Celinder. They don't seem to go for the same sort of money as the Jazz basses
  4. Celinder are an instrument not many will play I guess. Is he still making them.? Ive never played one. They seem to be the holy grail when it comes to Jazz basses.Whether this is a myth or not.? His 6 string basses I've seen go for very low prices. I nearly bought one before I got the Sei.
  5. Im aware it was written by the late Walter Becker. But I do love this version on this album..
  6. My favourite subject..American made Super Jazz Basses. OOhhh let me think for a second. Xotic, Low End, Pensa, Sadowsky, Suhr, Lull, FClef, Modulus, Pavel,Valenti. The list goes on. Xotic Imo make the best modern Jazz bass today. Just my opinion. Pensa Jazz basses are just pure jazz bass porn. But they are very expensive for a jazz bass. If my coin was on the line it would be this. Pensa Jazz 5 in cherry burst quilted maple.
  7. Ive heard a few
  8. Just spotted this. Im sure the more experienced musicians out there are very aware. But some may not be. A good well thought out vid on why your place is your place and why your favourite licks are best kept for moments in a song.. Too many voices trying to put a point across in a conversation never works.
  9. Ive never owned a P Bass. Played a 82 JV Squire once. was nice. But I just can't bring myself to buy a bass that only really has one tone. Im sure it works well in a band situation. Like Cuzzie said I can get close to a P Bass with a Jazz. But you can't get anywhere near a Jazz Bass tone with a P Bass. The Sei i play now can get both with the East Pre. Was the same with the SR5 H I owned. Amazing tone, but not very versatile.
  10. Have you asked yourself after the 5th time what might not be working for you Jazz Bass wise. Or what is it that sucking you in.?
  11. I personally think Aretha had the better voice (apart from Gladis Knight) but Anita consistently came out with better soul music.
  12. Didn't think that would last long.
  13. Didn't Oasis say they were the best band in the world..Oh didn't I laugh when the long haired monkey said that.
  14. Then I got my Sei Jazz back and the Sire's unfortunately couldn't compete with it.
  15. There is no competition. Ive had 4 now 3 5 strings and a 4. The best bang for your buck Jazz Bass is a Sire V7. The preamp can go from passive to active with no volume change. There on the most part very well made. Look amazing, Sound epic. Imo Sire's are hands down way better than any squire, or even a USA Fender imo.(unless its a American Vintage 74) They sound like a boutique jazz bass.. They are a no brainer..If they charged £1000 for a V7 I wouldnt think I was getting a bad deal.
  16. Just emailed
  17. JB stopped a riot at his Boston performance just after Dr King was shot. Thats one of his greatest legacies. Out of respect for the funk man.
  18. Does anyone have a musical family.? Im very proud to say that my dad was the musical director at the Hasting's Musical Society and Orchestra in New Zealand. He still plays piano and violin but age is catching up with him. Looks like me but me got no 70's moustache.. Doesn't like funk, loves Queen. Is in love with Bach's music. I also forced Anita Baker on to him.. 😁When I first started playing bass, i was very lucky to be able to ask him about theory and how it all worked.
  19. Was Motown a genre or a record company.? Im sure it was the latter, but I'm open to be educated
  20. Yeah maybe, but at least it gets people talking about great music. I worry when I see threads that ask "which way should I point the knobs on my bass for it to be aesthetically pleasing"..
  21. I went to see Anita at the Birmingham NEC back in 98 with my sister. She had some backing singers that I found out were the Perri Sister's. I then bought there album called, The Flight. To this day Its in my top 10 albums. There voices, the music, the keys the bass playing are just fabulous.
  22. If I asked 10 people randomly in the high street who they knew as a singer. Aretha Franklin or Anita Baker.? We know the answer to that.
  23. I always thought if I put" of course this is only my opinion"😀 it would take the controversy out of the post. its an open discussion.
  24. Im looking them up now.
  25. Mick if it was rock I was talking about then it may do. I doubt a hullabaloo is going to sprout from this.. I could be very wrong
