1.
Quite tempted by the "hard foam" gig bag/cases. They offer the protection of a hard case, with the weight of a gig bag.
Sadowsky imo make the best soft hardcase. Of course they are made by someone else. Who I'm not sure.
2.
You can't really go wrong with a Japanese Fender. They go from about £350 to £700.
This is what I thought until I bought a 95 62 RI. It was god awful. It was the pickups. They were out of a starter pack bass. Then I bought a non export 75 Jazz from Simon. So different. Get in touch with Dan from BassJapan. He will source you the best MIJ/CIJ Jazz bass. Japan basses is what he does.
3. I had a 4 string one of these in pink. was such a great bass. Good luck with the sale Mick.
4.
I'd love to get my hands on a really nice Alembic SC but I'm told that they weigh a ton which may mean that I'm lusting after something which I don't really want...done that a few times - 2x Wals, Ritter, 2x Warwicks... Andy just built me a dream of a bass so I'll stick with that for now... Oh BTW, Andrew hope you get better soon...
Thankyou Mick. Just one more. A dream bass for me. The one I used to own. A Sei J5 with a myrtle top, swamp ash body, Bartlolini's and a J Retro. would love to have it back. There was nothing really out there Jazz bass tone wise. It just sounded amazing. Sold it for £900 when times were tough. gutted.
5. This is the other dream bass. An early 90's Hamer Impact neck through. There are so rare. Only 12 made from Hamer. I've posted this before. Don't bother Happy Jack.
6. When I started, I was playing to a Bush tape stereo and a Vintage (brand) V4. Every night back from college. "Andrew do you want some dinner" No thanks mum, ill have it later. Press play to Incognito.
7.
A new Pensa 5 ranks as the worst bass I have ever played. I say played, but I didn't get to play it properly as it had a high fret which rendered it virtually unusable. My Fender Suhr Jazz is one that I would never sell. It's absolutely perfect (for me) in every way.
Weird, I've played a couple of Pensa's one at the Gallery and one that a friend owns. They were both epic.
8.
Are they the 70s wind NJ4s?
No there the 60's alnico NJ4's. Im aware they do an enamel wind 70's spec. The bass has a 70's tone to my ears. Probably the 70's spacing helps. Ive had the split coils before, and these are much more of an open aggressive tone. being a single coil of course.
9. Sorry Mike got me thinking, that and being ill and bored. This is mine. Whats yours.? A Pensa J5.
10.
what is the weight please?
Weighed it on bathroom scales and its a shade under 9 pounds.
11.
Have you a hardcase for it
No sorry.
12.
Most boutique stuff loses money fairly quickly, look at GB Spitfires in the £1500 bracket, even as a Fender USA Jazz user I'll be first to say how much better the GB is.
Pete is probably right here.
13. Rudy Pensa,s are very rare nowadays and Dont see many for sale. Suhr,s not so much. Of course they were working together. I think Suhr,s are are way up there with any super jazz basses. Including Celinder, NYC sadowsky,Alleva,s. I certainly wouldn't compare any of those with a Fender Jazz of any ilk. There in a different league to any Fender. I think a lot of people look at the resale price not really how much a Suhr is worth to play and keep. But yeah I do think Suhr jazz basses are priced quite low.
14. Sorry Dave you lost me at the start of your post.
15. Why do people think that Sire are milking the name.? So Marcus had a deal with Sire, to design a jazz bass, then Marcus thought, oh f*** it, I can't be bothered to give my input to design a P bass with my name on it. I doubt it. Any one who has an issue with his name on the headstock should get over themselves. The only person who cares about it, is the player. Its just an instrument at the end of the day, make it your own.
16. Any thoughts about the Bugera Veyron M.? its a great looking amp and 2000w. !!. And bloody cheap. Whats the catch.
17. MIM Fender Jazz basses were never factory fitted with any chrome covers. Lovely bass though.
18. I can't get anywhere near a jazz bass tone on a P Bass? I can get near to a P Bass on a Jazz Bass. This is more of a personal instrument feel preference. Imo
19. Slap works quite well in the right hands though.Unfortunately fashion, and bad taste(Imo) has lead us to this point. You don't hear us debating tapping, or harmonics in the same way. Its a shame, because in the right hands slap bass can be so musical. Of course I'm not saying this Marcus Miller vid is all that, its subjective. Quite an aggressive/percussive style for sure. Its just another technique thats been used in the wrong way for a long many years.
