1.
So to be more specific with the 'kind' of sound I'm after (and I know it's not just dependent on pups) here is a clip. At around 3:05 is the sound I would like to lean towards. https://m.youtube.co...h?v=S326s46zmjA Any passive barts for j bass that someone can suggest?
Do you just want a Jaco tone.?
2. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Bartolini_Pickups_J.html Gives a good description of each pickup. I had some 59J,s I put in a Maruszczyk Jazz and they sounded really nice. I would probably go for single coil Bartolini's now.
3.
If you want it slimmer, why not consider getting a luthier to shave it down?
Good point.
4. Warwick do supply necks only. But they are expensive. There was a guy on Talkbass who bought one for $850. That was back in 2009. Better to talk to a John Shuker or another great luthier
5. Easy. Nile Rodgers guitar solo on Chic,s Saviour Faire. It's sublime.
6. Probably the sexiest jazz bass body ever.
7. its 6/8 Should the drum teacher maybe know this.?
8. Has anyone played one of these quilted top Jazz basses. 4 or 5.?
9. They could have put a CS in there but im nitpicking
10. I would rather have heard him actually talk about the basses than showcasing his playing
11. I think the preamp alone is worth half that imo. So well voiced.
12.
The way he stains when stood at the microphone he looks like he's permanently trying to 'push one out'...and that's what he sounds like as well. I could never understand how he was rated as a vocalist. He struck lucky that his brother could pen a decent tune, that said, I've never liked Oasis or that whole Britpop thing, couldn't abide it. I did catch the Liam Gallagher set on the Beeb, it was dire.
Ha " The way he stains" unintentional excellence
13. Not really. Gonna be a bit tricky for me to trade a bass with no pickups in it
14. How does your ear learn to "understand" music.? was it the lyrics.?
15. The headstock is different.
16.
Never heard of Schick... Sure it wasn't Schack? http://schack-guitars.de/
Schack are/were German weren't they
17. My Hercules broke at the adjustment, i emailed them and they sent me a new one free of charge. There is a thread about the stands and there replacement policy. I had had the old one for 5 years. !!
18. I suspect he probably knows something we dont.
19.
Why is that?
Because there cheaper, and they have an 18v capacity preamp. Better bridge, more comprehensive eq.
20. I do like nickels but I find they take away some of the single coil sound/magic.
21.
That is no reason not to visit and post on Basschat. You are a bassist at heart, always will be.
This.
