1. Yep. Chromeo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOE1-2Fza5Q
2. Great Bass, Have a bump for your playing alone. Great stuff Liam.
3. I adore this woman's voice and her music. Such a fantastic record. Great all round performance at Daryl's house. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9lyrOETXao&list=RDBzWRT-PAGQk&index=12
4. Yep. There as good as any other Super Jazz or P 5 string.
5. Sire easily. Not sure about short scale basses
6. What i would do, is enjoy the basses you have and spend the money on the other priorities apart from your need for a Pbass pickup in a bass. But thats just me. Any of your current basses will do Funk and Soul and Bite, and anything else in between.
7. He's awsome. Had a beer with him and Michael League in a sh*t club in Cheltenham.
8. Most are talking about the audience, not noticing the difference in bass tone. Nothing to do with music difference
9. I think the finger board has more difference on tone than the body does
10. No The preamp is so powerful and comprehensive, i find it hard to understand you cant get a tone you like with the same preamp, but because its ash, its that different.. If it was a passive bass, you might be able to hear nuances in tone. Even if the pickup spacing is 70's there isnt a huge difference.. i dont believe ash or alder make a huge difference in tone. The preamp and pickup windings have way more influence on tone.
11. Im pretty sure i owned this bass a few years ago. Same grain. It was a fantastic 5 string with a great tone. Such great basses.
12.
Another company making Fender clones...why??
Because lots of bassists like the look of Fenders.
13. Top end Tune from the 90,s. I remember these. Really like this.
14.
So you think the NJ1's above the original suggestion of 9cbjs /or 9j1s? Thanks for the help guys! Will check out the NJ1s now.
Sorry i meant 9J1's
15. Just get the 9J1's. You really wont be dissapointed. Bartolini pickups are favoured by the the best bass makers in the world. Ive had 7 sets in various jazz basses and in basses that take there soap bar pickups. All have sounded amazing.
16.
Without wanting to get too patronising, that tone is probably already available in your jazz. String it with some SS rounds, back off the neck pup and play over the bridge pickup.
I do agree to an extent but great pickups will bring out a greater tone.
17. Sounds to me you would like the 9CBJS for the single coil option. Or for the split coil 9J1's. Both are from Bartolini's CB (Classic Bass) series of pickups. They are overwound for punchy low/mid/less highs. You can adjust your highs from the Aguilar. No glassy highs. I would say most good pickups will give you that tone, some better than others. I would also say that putting in a drop straight in Audere preamp will accentuate the pickups amazingly. Ive put one in a Fender and it was quite an amazing tone
18.
So to be more specific with the 'kind' of sound I'm after (and I know it's not just dependent on pups) here is a clip. At around 3:05 is the sound I would like to lean towards. https://m.youtube.co...h?v=S326s46zmjA Any passive barts for j bass that someone can suggest?
Do you just want a Jaco tone.?
19. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Bartolini_Pickups_J.html Gives a good description of each pickup. I had some 59J,s I put in a Maruszczyk Jazz and they sounded really nice. I would probably go for single coil Bartolini's now.
20.
If you want it slimmer, why not consider getting a luthier to shave it down?
Good point.
21. Warwick do supply necks only. But they are expensive. There was a guy on Talkbass who bought one for $850. That was back in 2009. Better to talk to a John Shuker or another great luthier
22. Easy. Nile Rodgers guitar solo on Chic,s Saviour Faire. It's sublime.
23. just wow.!!!!!!!!!!!
