1. U2. Just writing U2 makes me squirm. Ugh!!
2. Great band. The Absolution album is a classic IMO. Their more recent material is not for me, but fair play to them. Great musicians.
3.
Watching is not compulsory!
Wow I never knew.
4. It sounded more like top class cabaret to me. Lacked groove and soul IMO
5. Purchased a B stock amp around 3 years ago off them at a reduced price. The amp arrived but was faulty. I contacted them and they arranged a courier to pick up the amp from my home. They replaced it with a spanking new amp for no extra charge. Excellent to deal IME
6.
Thank you! I'm going to have to do a video about it as I get asked about my bass so much! It's one of the awesome Fender Jazz Bass Specials, but the active variety. These were known as the Power Jazz Bass Special. They were a little different as they featured carbon neck inserts, and an all important extra fret on the board, deep scoops around the horns, reverse P configuration and a very cool 'notching' EQ filter circuit with three way selector. The necks on these I understand are modelled on a '62 Jazz, but I've never been able to compare to know for sure. I love the headstock with the carbon fibre facing. I have another one of these basses and there is more of a shine on that one. Both made in the late 80's in Japan, they represent what I feel to be some of the best work to come out of Fender. Even at these ages, I am still surprised at how well they play when set up properly. So, this one isn't entirely stock! First of all, everyone will probably know by now I am a massive fan of 'flip' or 'chameleon' paint and my basses for over 11 years have all featured some sort of colour changing finish. (Oh my have I got a surprise in store over the next few weeks ha ha!!) - This one got the same treatment. The finish at some angles is very pink!! I can get a great grey/blue from it and Burgundy Mist into Rose Blue is totally achievable. Which is great as I can go from Guy Pratt to Billy Sheehan in one swift movement ha ha ha! I've stripped out all of the electronics too and have found a total match made in heaven - That's an EMG PJ set (don't believe a word from anyone who says these sound 'sterile' they have no clue lol) and I've strapped that to a Glockenklang 3 band preamplifier. The whole thing works in every situation, even vintage bass tones. I do like a bit of top end ping though, so edging towards Marcus Miller but with some more punch. Finally, new hardware too - I could have kept the original Gotoh gear, but I've replaced it with new shiny stuff - Dunlop Dual strap locks top off the spec'. Everyone who has played this bass has loved it, it's a total gem and has the ability to make me sound better than I actually I am. (I'm really not.) I will never part with it. The other model I have is still stock in Candy Apple Red and is part way through upgrades. I tend not to gig either as 9/10 I need the low B string.. oh, if the PJBS was available as a 5er! That'd be interesting!
Thank You. Now the GAS is building up. Go on, you know you don't need 2 of them sitting around the house
7.
and here's the SLS too: https://www.guitarin...bass_amp_review
Great review. What model Fender bass are you using?
8. Total bargain. Terrific punchy cab. GLWS

10. I have been using ACS custom fit for ten years now. Highly recommended
11. Terrific service for sure. After this, Fender might be inundated with a barage of dodgy jazz bass guitars that made it through QC over the years☺
12. Another ACS user here. Have been using them for 10 years now and they have been superb
13. Terrific cab these and at a bargain price. GLWS
14. Played through an Ampeg 8×10 driven by an Orange Terror 1000 with everything at 11. Total bass heaven.
15. I have been a big classic rock head for 40 years and my turntable keeps me happy when listening to recordings by 'Zep, Free, Purple etc. IME these sound so much better on vinyl. I have listened to the various attempts to remaster and transfer many of such these analogue recordings onto CD and so far, I have failed to be impressed. My Turntable is Clearaudio Concept, cartridge is Dynavector 10x5 and phono amp is a Dynavector p75. Like it or not, one has to spend quite a bit on a turntable set up to get the best out of Vinyl. Nowadays I purchase the majority of my music on CD, as pretty much all modern recordings are digital and my ears tell me that the Vinyl alternative dors not offer any sonic advantages. CD can sound fantastic, but as has been pointed out the 'loudness war' has really let the format down and the more revealing your hi fi system is, the worse these recordings sound (My Cd player is Priamre CD32). I remember purchasing 'Californication' by the RHCP on CD and returning it for another copy as it sounded like a bag of spanners. The replacement copy sounded no better and this album is a victim of the loudness war IMO. However it was a big seller so what do I know. However a properly mixed and mastered album can sound tremendous on CD. I do plan to to invest in a streaming set up to integrate with my hi fi, as that is where the future lies IMO and envisage ripping my CD's and Vinyl collection onto a hard drive for the purposes of convenience. I have recorded original vinyl pressings onto CD and the results have been very good. I don't get this notion that part of the vinyl replay experience is partly of a tactile nature. For me, it's a pain in the ass having to clean records, stylus' etc, but if I want to listen to 'Made in Japan', then at the moment it will have to be vinyl all the way IME.
16. The Kustom KXB500 is top of my list. It kicked the butt of the TH500, Puma 900, and various Markbass heads. Cost me 299 Euro's, but sadly its no longer available.
17. My brother purchased a Sire V7 some time back and these are the best bang for buck bass on the market IMO. Fit and finish is top notch. The neck is a dream to play and the 7.25" has quite an old school feel. The active electronics are very usable and the only down side was that I found it quite heavy, so not for me. Guess I have been spoiled by my US Sadowsky which comes in a tad over 7 pound weight. However I would have no hesitation in recommending the Sire. Terrific bass IMO
18. Saw JPJ perform in 1999 at my local pub (capacity 150-200). It was a warm up gig for his 'Zooma' tour. A three piece with Nick Beggs on bass/stick (Cannot remember the name of the drummer). Sensational gig it was and let us not forget his keyboard skills. I was standing right in front of him as he kicked off an instrumental version of 'No Quarter'. Tremendous! and this was his first gig as a solo artist I believe. The promoter said he was a bag of nerves before the gig. Terrific night and funky as anything
19.
I pride myself on not getting frustrated dealing with "bad drummer" issues. It's part of being in a band. It's part of my job. It's not about my requirements. It's about how can I make this work. What's good or makes sense for the band. At 64, I'm still not a great bass player, but I know what I'm doing. And it took a long time to get here. Blue
If the drummer is bad then there is no way the collective performance can be good, that's the crux of the issue. Bad drummer =no groove.
20.
We've all been there, the bad drummer experience. I don't let it bother me anymore. Experience has taught me to go out there and be the best bass player I can be regardless of what the drummer is doing. Blue
Does not work for me. As the rhythm section, I completely rely on the drummer to be on the money in order to play well. If the drummer is having an off night and time keeping in particular is a concern, then I find it impossible to lock in, find my groove and for me that sucks. When the drummer is playing well it brings out the best in my playing
21. Nothing to do with the aesthetics. Some years back, I needed a light bass due to a shoulder problem and pulled the trigger on a 4 string one of these. The Neck was a total baseball bat. I contacted Lace to ask about the thinking behind the neck dimensions. Well it turned out that Lace were using the exact same neck dimensions for both their 4 and 5 string basses. I reckon that must be a first in bass guitar design. The neck on mine was very unstable and correct intonation impossible. Could not get the action as low as I needed and fret buzz was an issue even with the action set relatively high. So in my case the instrument was unplayable. I have been through quite a number of basses through the years, but this model stands out as easily the worst IME
22. Pips the Tonehammer 500, Puma900, Markbass f500 and by some distance. Easily the best micro I have used.
