1.
CD easily outperfoms vinyl? Depends on what you're listening to them on! My Advantage cd player rarely sounds as good as my Clearaudio/SME/AudioNote/EAR vinyl set-up...
IMO, if you want to hear vinyl at its best, there is a requirement to invest in a proper turntable, arm, phono stage and cartridge. The alignment of the cartridge and arm is a crucial factor. If there is anything amiss in that chain, then one is in for a crap listening experience. I listen to both CD and vinyl. IME the pre digital age albums on vinyl have never transferred very well to the digital domain, despite various efforts at remastering. For instance the original vinyl pressings of the Led Zeppelin catalogue sound superb IMO, whereas the CD equivalent, remastered or not, just don't get there. I have heard the remastered versions of a couple of Led Zeppelins albums on vinyl and found that to be equally disappointing. Interestingly the finest sounding Vinyl album I have in my collection is this one https://www.discogs....release/5435201 Recorded in Dublin Castle in the 80's directly onto a '2 track valve mobile' according to the cover info. A cheap as chips production and sounds incredible.
 2. A risky design but I really like. Congrats

 4. If I forgot to bring my ACS pkugs to a gig, then no gig. The most crucial piece of kit I carry
 5. Remember seeing the Australian Pink Floyd many years ago in a venue with a capacity of 500-600. Their sound was really incredible. Had a brief chat with the sound engineer and he said everything was going straight into the PA other than 4 vocal mics. No guitar amps and the acoustic kit was just triggering pads.
 6. What a tune!. Deep Purple at their absolute best IMO. If we had a keyboard it would be the no1 track in our set player in our covers band. Get to work and enjoy
 7. My amp. Its a Kustom KXB 500 and no longer in production. Knocks the socks of every other micro amp I have tried (Markbass, GK, Aguilar, Tecamp).
 8.
Leroy - you actually may want to look into a triggered kick - say a Roland RT30k and a TM2. This will give you the sound of a compressed, eqed, bleed free kick but without the hassle of running outboard, or some sort of digital desk. It will actually sound a lot better than most people's efforts at getting a decent live kick sound also. Also means your drummer can carry around a tiddler of a kick drum too.
That could well be the way to go. Will discuss with the guys in the band and see where it might go. Many thanks.
 9.
That concept is fine - it's pretty much how a "aux-fed sub" would work - although you would ideally want to have some compression, maybe a gate and some eq to get the most out of that cab.
Thanks for that suggestion
 10.
Have you (and the drummer, of course..!) exhausted all of the options of tuning, changing the batter and/or resonant head..? Using an un-ported head..? There's a lot that can be done to change the overall tone of any drum. Just a thought..?
No. I will chat to the drummer and see where this might go. Thanks
 11. We have been doing our Saturday night residency for the past 10 years with backline and vocal pa only. The venue has a capacity of around 150-160, we play classic rock covers and not once has it been suggested by anyone that we should use full PA. The backline and instruments we use are very good quality (Sadowsky, Bergantino, Bogner, Gibson etc) and that is key in my opinion. I had a fellow bass player sit in for a couple of tunes recently and was very impressed with the overall sound and balance. If anything, I would like a little more oomph from the kick drum and have considered micing it up through a separate powered cab, situated beside the drums and facing the audience. (I would appreciate any comments regarding such an arrangements)
 12.
No, its not heavy. I might have to throw it on the bathroom scales and check. No neck dive , by the way
Really nice looking bass. A mate of mine scored an alder/rosewood one of these and I was really impressed. Terrific build quality and some sweet tones. The only thing that was a problem for me was that it felt quite heavy, so I would be really interested in the weight of yours. These are the best bang for buck bass that I have ever handled, and by some distance. Indeed this couls be all the bass you need. Congrats
 13. I had the neck on my Sadowsky reshaped by Roger Sadowsky. He reckoned it would not affect the tone. No surprise that he was right
 14.
Yup - I tried a very nice JO skyline years ago that was very high quality. But I played a US DJ4 recently that was just outrageously good. Really, quite ridiculously good
Is that US DJ4 for sale anywhere?
 15.
I had no idea of this. I knew he was unwell. Very sad. Thanks for the heads up.
Will always remember sitting in my local with a couple of friends having a sunday morning beer when Louis and the band were passing through town. They dropped in for some refreshments and just for the hell of it, set up their gear and performed for an incredible 2 hours to an audience of maybe 20 people. Terrific guitarist. Truly one of the best.
 16.
Another Irish musical treasure (though mainly only appreciated in jazz circles) is Louis Stewart. He has fronted many bands down the years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7afinOWjnNg
Sorry to say Louis passed away today R.I.P.
 17. A mate has a nice Fender USA AV62 reissue. Stack knobs and very vintage feel. No QC issues and an excellent buy used. Not available in pink thankfully
 18.
And when folks like Sandberg are shipping out basses with flawless set up and quality, it seems crazy that Fender can not be more consistent. Clearly they have desirable products, but they just seem to be letting themselves down.
They are letting their potential customers down also. I have been a victim of their dreadful QC in the past and it cost me. Sure if you get a good one and so on, but I have no interest in entering the Flea bass lotto as I will have to buy sight unseen. The thought of having to ship returns till the right one comes along is just a ridiculous proposition IMO and is not for me. I deserve a better service more consistent product and the evidence on this thread suggests Fender once again are unable to deliver.
 19.
I really like the features on the Flea jazz but honestly, the number of faulty ones is quite shocking and is putting me off. And it's not all minor niggles either. I'm glad for everyone who got a good one and with a light weight though. Frank.
+1. The lack of consistency with these basses puts me right off. Seems Fender have yet to sort out their QC issues. A couple of years back I purchased a Fender american jazz online and it was a joke in terms of QC.

 22.
I've just retired my ER15's (The ER bit in the ACS model name is the company Etymotic Research who make the filters. Also known as Elacin or Hearos) They've been brilliant for years but I've just received some brand new 64 Audio ADEL technology earplugs. Very excited about them as they go a few steps further to saving hearing on top of the already superb volume control of filtered plugs. I can't bang on enough how important decent ear plugs are - and when you 'go moulded' you'll never go back! I'm just waiting for my new 64 Audio ADEL A8 IEMs to appear soon too!
These sound really interesting. Where did you get your moulds done, and at what price?
