  1. So the moral of the story is you can do the gig without a top musician but not a laptop. I have seen the band with both Edwin and Navarro. Edwin is the man by a distance for me, when it comes to PT.
  2. The band released the following. 'You may have heard that in Bonn yesterday Porcupine Tree unexpectedly performed as a 4-piece, as sadly our bass player @Nathan_Navarro had a serious family crisis and needed to fly home to the States to be with his loved ones.... Rest assured that all our Summer shows will go ahead as planned! Through the magic of technology Nate’s bass will continue to be heard at the shows even if you can’t see him. We hope this won’t spoil your enjoyment of the PT live experience.
  3. I am old school and with you on that. Blue is in the groove and staying out of the way. Way to go
  4. It's all about the song and this is a great one. I was hooked from the start. Really catchy chorus. Well done
  5. I am considering getting a Mezzo. What's the approximate weight?
  6. What is the weight of the bass please?
  7. My brothers Sire was a gen 1. If they get the weight right well that's a home run. With basses of this quality available for so little money, I for one would be very happy to have it as my go to. Over the years I have spent a fair bit of time putting boutique and vintage basses through my hands. I am retired from playing for a while, but if I was ever to go back playing, I would get a Sire and leave it at that.
  8. Played a Sadowsky NYC for years and then my brother introduced me to his Sire V7. omg. Seriously impressive instruments in every way other than the weight being 10lb +.
  9. If a fellow Zep fan likes them, then I have to give them a listen. For some reason the name of the band, for some reason turned me off.
  10. Saw Steve Vai with his band in Dublin last year for €40!. Royal Bloody rip off with tickets at £95
  11. During my 40 years of gigging, there were many a time I wanted to do this, but never had the courage. This bass player nails it on the double. For me he is one of the greats. https://youtu.be/R2dnHVnvlhE
  12. I have owned countless Fenders, a Jaydee, Sadowsky NYC, WAL and a few other basses over many years. Right now I am setting up a pair of the cheaper end Sire basses ( a fretless and a fretted ) for my brother and am blown away by the quality. The fretless coated neck at this price point is stunning. The only downside for me is the weight. Other than that these are excellent pro level giggle basses. If I were to go back playing, I would have no interest in boutique basses.
  13. I had a bass that used to belong to AC. For me that was no big deal. It was a real players bass, a 1965 jazz. I sold it on several years after purchasing it, to a player who works with a major act and he confirmed, that indeed it was once belonged to AC.
  14. I have my CD collection and that of a few friends ripped onto an Innuos Zen server. I can also stream Tidal with this unit. I download and pay for albums from a number of legitimate sites and load them onto the Zen, including hi res. I can operate the unit using an app on my phone and have no desire going back to CD. https://innuos.com/zen-mk3/ I also have a vinyl collection which I enjoy.
  15. I have seen his creations, was in touch with him several months ago but did not go ahead with a build then. I have just now pm'd him with an enquiry. Beautiful looking basses. I live in Ireland, so borrowing one won't happen unfortunately.
  16. Its been several years since I had a bass in my hands, but I am now on the lookout for an acoustic/ semi hollow fretless, as a mate of mine is recording an album and wants me to contribute. I am thinking of a medium scale instrument with pick up. Not so keen on the super shortscale offerings from Goldtone and ukulele type basses (though I am open to persuasion). Budget is anything up to £800.
  17. I used to have a Larkin fretless bass many years ago. Superb instrument in every way and a big mistake moving it on. This is a stone cold bargain. GLWS
  18. A nice weight. I retired from playing a number of years ago. Indeed I sold everything and lost interest in playing. Yet, I am a regular visitor on here, keeping pace with the latest gear. It is incredible the vfm that is available. That these compare so well with the high end basses you mention, is wonderfull both for players starting out and for players wanting a very a solid instrument. Then again, some years ago I picked up a Sire and was floored by the quality. At the time I was gigging a Sadowsky NYC.
  19. Thanks for that. Hope you are happy with your bass. They a certainly a beautiful looking instrument
  20. It certainly looks the biz. Any idea of the weight roughly?
  21. You mean to say England is 50% to blame?
