I have been using the Berg CN212 for over a year now and it is the last cab I will buy. Outstanding in every way IMO and there is a used one with cover in the for sale section here for £650.
Straight into the input will work just fine.

Yup, I think the effects loop is more likely to have too much signal level from the send - or to put it another way, there isn't an input gain control on the B3 sadly.
Thanks guys. Can I assume that the B3 in bypass mode does not suck anything from the tone of the instrument?

i am interested in getting one of these. What are the opinions as to whether these are best connected through the effects send/return, or through the amp input via bass guitar.
Any idea where one might find a Kustom KXB500 in the UK? Sorry for the derail!
Sadly they are no longer in Production. Easily the best amp I have had the pleasure of using and as cheap as chips (€299)

Used to power my Berg CN212 with the Tecamp Puma 900 and it worked fine. However I now use the Kustom KXB 500 and it sounds so much better. Guess big power is not everythimg

Had a jaydee roadie built in 1985. Terrific bass. The neck never needed to be adjusted. Only sold it because as I got older, the weight became an issue
My TecAmp Puma 900 has more than enough ooomph for me.....the advantage of classD (compact/lightweight/portable) far outweigh any (imperceptible?) placebo effect on tone/oomph of an A/B.
The Puma is a fine amp. However to my surprise, The cheap and cheerful Kustom KXB 500 is my go to amp now, whilst the Puma is now my back up. The KXB has seroius ooomph. Real heft to the notes. I have been through several micro amps (Puma, various Markbass, TH500) and the KXB500 is king of that ring IME and by some distance.

Sadowsky have smaller bodies. Their NYC Range are pretty expensive (although their is a lovely used one in the classifieds here). They are also very light due to chambered bodies. The Metro range are probably better value, though chambered bodies are not an option, so they come in a little heavier.
Following on from the Jaco thread... Rush are another band I have never heard. Any suggestions? I could do with something to listen to on the way home tonight...
I would not suggest a compilation or best of, as their albums have a seamless quality that require listening from start to finish IMO. Most of the punters I know would go with 'Moving Pictures' as being at the top of the list. If that album does not float your boat, then it just might be that Rush are not for you. Coincidentally I listened to 'Moving Pictures' (on Vinyl of course ) last night and it sounds as fresh and impressive as ever, truly awsome. It just demanded my full attention and every note was just magical IMO. Not sure if I could listen to it whilst driving home from work and expect the same satisfying result. As for Peart retiring, well I say the very best of luck to him. If his body or soul is not up to it, then there is no point. He and Rush owe us nothing and better that they get out on top, unlike some other acts of their generation, who just plough on and sound like a shadow of who they once were.
I've seen them several times over the past few years, and have countless live albums/bootlegs. Their current form is the best they've been for 15-20 years. Gillan had a dodgy few years a while back with his vocals but he's sounding much better - he'll never manage Child In Time but can pull off Into The Fire with ease. But there you go - DP, ever unfashionable BTW I'll be there on Thursday!
Big Fan here and the last Purple gig I was at was about 15 years ago. They were absolutely shambolic on that night so glad to hear things are on the up -
I am a massive fan of their early stuff. MkII was the lineup I favoured although I didn't ever see them live then. For my money Gillan's voice was the best of the bunch in the early 70s and 'Made In Japan' (the gold one) remains one of my favourite albums to this day. I saw them live for the first time on the 'Burn' tour - Coverdale and Hughes weren't so bad either but I always thought there was something magical about the chemistry of mkII. Saw them again in the early Morse years by which time Gillan's voice was completely shot to pieces. They also, rather churlishly imo, left out all the stuff from the years when Gillan was absent. Having said that I think 'Ted The Mechanic' is a very strong song and Blackmore couldn't have touched that.
Blackmore and Morse, both excellent guitarists, but very different in terms of style and tone. I have seen each of them perform with Purple and Morse for me has never got even close to emulating Blackmore in terms of composition and style within the context of Deep Purple. In his prime, Blackmore was the best in the business IMO, though it is well documented how unpredictable he is in terms of performance with Purple. Watch this clip and see what a unique guy Blackmore was https://www.youtube....h?v=IQW_DFADO6I -

No Blackmore, No Purple IMO. Anyway their first album with Morse, 'Perpendicular' offered hope, but it has been a steady decline since then IMO. -
Rush - several gigs, every one a loser. Terrific band...pitiful mix.
Yep saw them on a number of occasions and the mix was terrible. However in 2011 attended their show in Dublin. sat 14 rows back, dead center and the sound was terrific,as was the performance
I've always thought that I was born about 10 years too late in terms of musical tastes so the short answer is loads. Even some that I have seen I would much have preferred to see about 15 years earlier than I first did (like Deep Purple).
The first time I heard 'Deep Purple in Rock' it had a profound effect on me. Got me totally hooked on rock music and still am. Saw Deep Purple in Knebworth in '85 and they put on a cracking show

Relish playing Galway, Ireland in 2003. At this time they were really well known in Ireland, had a very successful debut album and were about to launch their follow up. They completely blew me away. Till this day I reckon it is the best gig I have had the pleasure of attending. Have a taste of Relish https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj69Yt_L7bk

Foam plugs are designed typically for protection in industrial environments where excessive noise is a factor. So if you are using a kango breaker fine, but I want to protect my hearing whilst being able to properly hear, experience and enjoy the music, so that it allows for a proper performance.( I am a pretty average player, so need any advantage I can get). ACS customs give me this opportunity every time. Foam plugs in a musical situation destroy the experience IME but if its spending a day on the building site, then happy days with the foam plugs.
Apples is apples and oranges are something else. My custom moulded ACS Pros were about £135 and worth every penny. You pays your money and you takes your choice. sorry - YOU PAYS YOUR MONEY AND YOU TAKES YOUR CHOICE - CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?
+1. You pays your money and you take your chances. Custom ACS moulded plugs are IME the safest, best and for me only option when it comes to hearing protection. The cheap and cheerful one size fits all variety were my thing for a while, until I developed tinnitus and hearing loss. When I presented them to the Audiologist he had a giggle and chucked them in the bin. Now I use ACS moulded plugs, have my hearing checked regularly and the are protecting whats left of my hearing. The best investment I have ever made.
The only benefit to spikes is that they will grip better than rubber feet on carpeted floors, which can reduce the tendency of a speaker being pushed at very high levels to 'dance' across the floor. All of the other claims made for them are hogwash.
Interesting. The hi fi industry has a bit to answer for for sure, particularly the claims regarding expensive cables IMO. However the claim made by Pioneer regarding a particular pair of speakers is the best yet. The following is taken from their website "S-A4SPT Pure Malt Speakers These speakers have been crafted from 100-year-old white oak whiskey barrels. The wood has absorbed the whiskey, creating a distinctively smooth and rich acoustic quality, unlike that of any virgin wood."
A cab that flimsy is defective. Even in that case all that's required to 'decouple' the cab is rubber feet. If what decoupling devices claim is true then a drummers sticks left atop his kick drum or the snare wires beneath the snare drum wouldn't vibrate when you hit a note, since the cab isn't even remotely close to being in contact with the drum heads. Stages vibrate for the same reason as drum heads do, in sympathy to the sound that the speaker creates, not any vibrating of the cab walls.
What your opinion on Hi Fi floorstanding speakers, particularly with regard to using spikes as opposed to rubber feet on suspended timber floors?
