1.
I don't think so. I vaguely remember this was discussed in the mega thread over on Talkbass. Also have a look at the Mesa Website and use the Zoom feature to see the details at the back of the amp --> http://www.mesaboogi...800/index.html#
Interesting and no 110v/220v switch. Guess this amp switches voltage automatically, or perhaps their is an internal switch/jumper?
2.
I'm off to the state's at Christmas, wonder if I'd get away with one in my suitcase ;-p
Well why not bring back 2, one for me and one for you :-) Wonder does this amp require a modification to change it from 110v to 230v?
3. Haven't heard the new album yet but really enjoyed the first album. The songwriting was first class, both in terms of lyrics and music. The first album was that good, it might be a hard act to follow.
4.
I'm a firm believer in modern equipment is superior aurally. To my mind the analogy of cars is apt. I love driving an old Jaguar: the feel, sound and acceleration is wonderful. However my three year old Lexus is comfier, more efficient, handles better and works in all weather conditions.
i like that analogy. I currently use a Berg CN212 cab driven by a cheap and cheerful Kustom KXB500 (the best class D amp I have come across) and I am really pleased with my tone. The set up is ultra portable and reliability is second to none. However the guitarist in my band took out his les paul the other night and plugged it straight into an old 60's Vox ac30 and I was knocked out by the tone of that combo. He has a bunch of modern Mesa Boggie, Bogner and Marshall amps and he agreed that the Vox ac30, though not as flexible, kicks the rest into touch. Likewise the technology around nowadays allows for really nice on board bass preamps. The preamp on my Sadowsky is a cracker and is really handy for nailing a variety of tones required for playing covers. Then again as good a bass as it is, I still got to take my hat off to my vintage 1964 Fender jazz. It has a tone all of its own and if I had to confine myself to one instrument, I would sacrifice the Sadowsky and keep the Jazz bass.
5.
See vinyl v digital threads ad nuaseum...
Not wanting to go there. For me its not either or, I am a big fan of both CD and Vinyl, they both have their place. My comment relates to my experience of listening to both formats regarding 'Made in Japan'
6.
It's probably a different master for each format, which is why the two sound different. If they put the vinyl master on CD you shouldn't be able to tell (except it'd be missing the needle scratching etc)
Well you should take better care of your vinyl
7.
My recent (CD) copy of MIJ sounds awesome - especially the bass.
To my ears, the vinyl pressing in comparison (provided it is played on a decent turntable) is on another level IMO.
8. Listened to Deep Purples 'Made in Japan' on vinyl today on a reasonably good hi fi system and the sound was stellar. Apparently this is a totally live effort by Blackmore and Co., simply terrific album, though the CD equivalent does not cut it sonically IMO. Reckon many these older anologue recordings, for whatever reason just dont transfer well onto digital formats IME.
9. Great Pups these. I once changed them out for a set of Lindy Fralins and the Fralins lasted a week before I re-installed the '60 reissue pups
10. Played in a small sleazy rock bar where classic rock was the order of the day. No stage and one side of the PA rig refused to work. Regardless, both the band and the crowd really enjoyed the gig. loved it.
11.
True, it does sound nice and it's bound to be very well made, but I just couldn't stomach paying SO much more than our US counterparts. If I was made of money, fair enough, but I ain't so my when I can afford a change I'll spend my limited budget elsewhere... Eude
Likewise (GAS permitting). It is not always the case that the more you pay the more you get. 10 months ago I purchased the now discontinued cheap and cheerful Kustom KXB500 (350 Euro) as a back up. Hands down this is the best micro amp I have ever used and by some distance. It knocks the Tecamp Puma,TH 500 and various Markbass amps right out of the ballpark IMO and would Probably give this Mesa Boogie class D a good run for its money.
12.
Maybe we subsidise things to keep prices down for the US? Eude
I agree. However their will be plenty of GAS building up over here, particularly with this piece of kit sporting the Mesa Boogie logo.(to be honest I feel the GAS coming on myself)
13.
I appreciate that there's additional costs getting to into the UK, but that's just unfair. If I was able to afford a new amp anytime soon, I would've been interested in this, but not when it's such an obvious rip off. I appreciate that Mesa stuff could come with a premium, but why only to us chumps over here? Eude
+1 and interestingly the German made Tecamp Puma comes in at the same price in the U.S. as it is over here, despite transportation,tax/duty charges. Guess in order to remain competetive Tecamp and other European manufacturers have to cut their profit margin per item when selling in the U.S., but its a double whammy for us on this side of the pond.
14. i have been listening to my new Clearaudio Concept Turntable. This has given a breath of fresh air to my old Vinyl collection. Yummy!
15.
Now on hold for silverfoxnik
He will be a happy man. Terrific cab here.
16. My 7lb Sadowsky was a godsend for me initially, but eventually my shoulder pain returned. I pulled the trigger on the gruvgear duo strap a couple of years ago and this has solved the issue. This piece of kit feels more like a harness than a strap at first, but I persevered and it feels fine now and I would never be without it.
17. One thing that put me off the LM tube 800/500 is that the valve is soldered directly to the circuit board so is not user replacable.
18. Terrific bass here. Used to have one and let it go, as it was too heavy for my puny shoulder (It only weighed a tad over 9 pounds). Workmanship was top class, neck was perfect and the electronics covered a wide palette of tones.
19. Get the Berg CN212 and forget about the rest
20. Lots of love on here for Thomann when it comes to value, fast shipping and their 30 day return policy, but It would be interesting to hear how they honour the repair side of things. Is the preamp under warranty
21. Don't get too carried away with your dreams IMO and with that kind of money, play before you pay if at all possible. Some years ago I pulled the trigger on a high end bass, purchased it online, but after a couple of days of playing it, I new the neck was not for me. I had to send it back to have the neck reshaped. Lesson learned and I would never buy a bass now without playing it first.
22. This kind of funk just lifts me to a happier place, gets my toes tapping and makes me want to dance. All good
23. Tecamp Puma 900 is a sweet amp. If your looking for a vintage tone, look elsewhere IMO. The Puma has a modern twist to its tone. Crispy highs if required, tons of headroom and the taste control is a lovely feature for dialing in the sweet spot. Interestingly I purchased the cheap and cheerful Kustom KXB500 as back up, but to my surprise, the Kustom has become my main amp. The best micro amp I have come across. Not as modern a tone as the Puma, but is more appropriate to my needs. Lots of love over on TB for the Kustom head
