1. The Bergantino CN212 is what I use and it is a tremendous cab IMO. lightweight, partners well with a variety of amps and a one cab solution. Highly recommended
 2. just checked this performance out on YT. Just really loved it!. Great band with terrific tunes. Thoroughly enjoyable!
 3.
Couldn't believe how bad.... It is scary bad.
It is the worst album I have ever heard. My brother and I listened to it over a beer and I could not take the pain anymore and asked him to take the bloody thing off. Totally shody performance, and really badly produced. Sounded like a bag of spanners falling down the stairs
 4. Remember well how their debut in 1978 just changed the game. However their recent live album is horrible in every way IMO and I mean really horrible
 5. Played through one of these amps on top of an Ampeg 8x10 cab at a gig recently. Terrific amp IMO GLWS
 6. Just want to say gelfin has been a total gent in assisting me with this. Many thanks
 7. Gruvgear duo strap for me
 8.
So without starting another thread I guess I'm now looking for opinions on the new small super light bass heads. The showdown is really this: Aguilar TH500 v Littlemark III (Tube version too) I haven't really played either but I've narrowed it down to wanting either. Both under 3kg both 500w into 4 ohms so it's down to tone, aesthetics and functionality. I can see a lot of remarks saying positive things about the MarkBass, is it better than the Aguilar? Both class D Amps, both with 'drive' knobs?? So c'mon let's hear it, I only have a couple of weeks to decide!! I'm going to run it into a 4x10 4 ohm cab, Sandberg TM5
Markbass for a clean tone. If you want more grit in your tone consider the TH500. As always best to try before you buy (in my case, because of my location not always possible). I have been through many micro amps, including a number of Markbass and the TH500. The Tecamp Puma 500/900 deserves a mention as well. However there is one micro amp that IMO and IME that is head and shoulders above the rest and that is the Kustom KXB500. I purchased this cheap and cheerful amp as back-up for my Puma 900 and TH500. Well for several months now the KXB500 has been the only amp I have used. It offers a very punchy, articulate tone, with real weight to every note. Lots of headroom with this baby to. I use it with a Berg CN212 and I do not miss the extra wattage of the Puma 900. A few weeks back, I decided to use the Puma on a gig and it did not make it past the sound check. The KXB500 is a bit special IMO. The only downside is that the fan is a bit on the noisy side, but it has never bothered me. Certainly in a live gig situation, or band rfehearsal, it is a non issue IMO Lots of love for this amp over on TB http://www.talkbass.com/threads/nad-the-best-amp-ive-ever-heard-kustom-kxb500.1094234/ For whatever reason, I could only find one supplier in Europe http://www.muziker.de/service/search?q=kxb500# Terrific amp at a super price. The best bang for buck on the bass planet IMO
 9.
Thanks. Does sound like a plan. As you said earlier"what's not to like"? The other option I wondered about is a 102hlf. wonder if there is any major gain for the extra size weight and cost.
I have no experience with that cab, but it could be very interesting to A/B it with the 2x10 traveler if at all possible.
 10.
Had mine for about 6 or 7 years now I think it's a mk2. No problems at all always been loud enough when playing through a pa or at loud rehearsals. Although recently had a couple of gigs where I've not gone through a pa, felt that I was pushing it a bit hard and would have liked an extra cab Maybe I should look at the 102p traveller cab?
Maybe you should. IME adding a 102 traveler cab to this combo transforms what is a terrific combo, into a set up that will give you oodles of volume to cover any situation.
 11. Enjoy your CN212. It is one of the best lightweight 2x12 cabs you can get IMO. I have been using mine for several months and could not be happier. I have no experience of Vanderkley or Barefaced, but have used Genz Benz, Markbass, EBS and GK cabs in the past and the CN212 is on another planet IMO. This is the last cab i will ever buy (until the next dose of GAS hits me ) For whatever reason you picked the CN212 after trying out a whole bunch of cabs. Its a serious investment, so go and savor the flavor.
 12.
Alpine Musicsafe Pro
Get custom fitted plugs IMO. Generic plugs can be a bit hit and miss so if your genuinely interested in getting the very best ear protection for a working musician, then the custom route is the only route IMO and IME. ACS custom plugs have served me very well. Would never be without them now. They are the best investment you can make.
 13. What kind of earplugs are you using?
 14.
used my new ACS pro17's at practice last night, bloody hell, what a difference from my Alpine musicsafe pro's, really quiet, I felt a bit detached to be honest, does this get better or should I be going for the pro15 filters? trouble is I already suffer from hearing loss at 4K Hz and the 17's are seem to be the only 'flat' ones they do
The feeling of detachment is to be expected when you first start using proper (by that I mean custom fit) is to be expected. After a few weeks of regular use it becomes a non issue. Congrats on an excellent investment.
 15. Yea, wonder what happened to this topic. Some interesting contributions. I really like his playing and his 'in your face' tone. Still, not sure if he has his motown licks down
 16. No experience with the 550 ,but some years ago I A/B'd the TC RH450 and a Little Mark 11. The little Mark won the day hands down IMO, warm, punchy and much more juice on tap that the RH450
 17.
Thanks all - some good opinions there! With ref fault issues, anyone know what the standard markbass warranty is in the UK? Think I'm leaning more to getting new version (as long as I like the sound it makes) - I'm assuming it's still a quality product, even if the speakers are not B&C brand. Anyone already own the new version?
The standard warranty in the UK is 2 years. If you buy from Thomann the warranty is 3 years. With regard to reliability, I have used Markbass kit for several years in a rock setting and it always delivered and never gave trouble. A friend of mine in the trade, who sells various bass amplifiers maintains that Markbass is the most reliable kit he stocks. This Markbass really comes into its own when matched with the Markbass traveler 2x10. With this arrangement you get a 500 watt stack that goes really loud and punchy, super light and portable. Whats not to like?
 18. No experience of the trace cab, but that MB combo is stellar. Super portable, punchy, reliable and oodles of power. Holds its value really well
 19.
Like everyone else I have my likes and dislikes, but if we are really talking intolerable, blood-pouring-out-of-every-orifice levels of physical pain and suffering, I find Deep Purple’s ‘Child in Time’ very hard to beat. Especially the ‘Made in Japan’ live version. In order to avoid something like the 'head popping' scene from David Cronenberg's 'Scanners' taking place, I absolutely have to be out of the room well before the full-on falsetto screaming bit kicks in. Truly awful, brain-destroying stuff.
' Made in Japan' is my all time favourite Live Rock Album. No overdubs here, just one of the greatest Rock bands recorded in their prime. Out of the room with you then!!
 20.
In terms of hatred, traditional Irish music, I cannot stand it.
Though i would not go as far as hatred, Irish trad is far from the top of my list. However some of Ireland's best trad players have pushed the boat out. This is what you get when you combine some of the countries top trad musicians with a selection of funky rockers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVMb3Ew2Ny8&list=RDTvGFEAUEfzE&index=4
 21.
I don't really understand the 'loud' or 'louder than' requirements. It always sounds a bit Spinal Tap to me but maybe I'm just odd! With a 2x10 8ohm cab and an 800w head (therefore running at about 500w) I never need to turn the master up beyond 11:00 and that's against two relatively loud guitarists - one of whom usually has his Vox firing right at me. Any more than that and the bass becomes overpowering and kills the broader sound of the band as a whole. There's always a little bass in the PA and it's properly mixed so that the band as a whole sounds like a cohesive unit.
In essence I agree. I use a Berg CN212 with a variety of heads and have always been really happy with the Berg cab. Could not have asked for anything louder. Yet a couple of weeks ago I was playing at a gig where backline was provided and there was an Ampeg 'fridge' (8x10) being driven with an Orange 1000w terror. I have to say that set up was something else. Yet, would I be prepared to drag that big heavy cab to gigs?...not a chance. The Berg is the best cab I have ever owned, though I have no experience with Barefaced.
 22.
I'm the opposite - I hate modern-sounding production that pushes everything to 0db and keeps it there. Totally lacking in dynamics and very tiring to listen to.
This +1
 23. Sadowsky NYC J bass covers it all for me. Lots of possibilities tone wise thanks to the superb preamp, VTC, and pickup pan. This, together with varying the position of my picking hand anywhere between the butt of the neck and bridge, covers everything I need.
 24.
If you want me to help feel free to PM me and I will give you my phone number to talk you through anything.
That is fantastic. PM on the way
