Hi, I work in the hifi industry and there are not many people left who can service a LP12 property. It needs the correct tools to align the suspension and needs great care and patience to get the most from the deck. We are in Reading at Audio T and my colleague Simon has been servicing the LP12 for over 20 years. Hope this helps.
Any Chance that your mate Simon Might be visiting the west of Ireland (my location) anytime soon ? . If so the Guinness is on me Having such an experienced tech as your colleague service the unit would be ideal. Just wonder if it is practical to ship this piece of delicate Hi Fi across the ocean?. i understand a special shipping box is required.
You'll get good advice at either www.hifiwigwam.com or http://www.pinkfishmedia.net/forum/. As for changing the cartridge, that's an easy job so long as you're not too hamfisted; I've just put an Audio Note IQ3 on my Clearaudio and it sounds most excellent. You do, however, need a stylus balance - the Shure one is about £20 - and it's probably worth getting a powerful magnifying glass to check on your old cart as it may be OK. This website has plenty of set-up info: http://www.originliv...leshooting.html
Great stuff. I will check out the links you provided. Thank you

I have a Linn Sondek turntable that has served me well over the years and is in need of a little TLC. Ideally I would have a service done with a local dealer but there isn't one. Rather than shipping the thing to a linn dealer and all the hassle that entails, I have decided to do it myself, but need some help. The turntable is operating fine, so in order to keep it that way I reckon changing the bearing oil and cartridge would be a good idea. i have a back round in electronics and do all the set up on my guitars, so reckon i could give this a shot. I would appreciate any advice from anyone on here who might be familiar with these tasks. The arm is an Akito and the bearing is a cirkus bearing. thanks in advance.

Genz-Benz vs Aguilar vs TECAMP - Your help needed!
leroydiamond replied to GeorgeL94's topic in Amps and Cabs
I have both the Tecamp Puma 900 and the TH500, but my go to amp is the cheap and cheerful Kustom KXB500, which I got as a back up. A cracking piece of kit. -
Purchased a new U.S. Fender jazz bass (sight unseen) in 2010 and the sharp fret edges meant the bass was unplayable.

Thought I was fine for Basses, but the Celinder basses that have been on the 'for sale' section, have really got the GAS juices flowing

I have hearing loss and tinnitus despite using generic plugs For years. When the tinnitus kicked in and I set off to see an audiologist. He scoffed at the notion of cheap and cheerful generics, when it came to protection and informed me that the only way to go was the custom route I now use ACS custom and I can highly recommend them.

I cannot seem to listen to much else since I picked up their album last week. Love this band

Always great to hear again - nearly 43 years later!!

Remember "Made in Japan" cost $3000 dollars to record, no overdubs and represents this line up at their very best IMO. Easily my favourite live rock album. It sounds at its best on vinyl IMO. For whatever reason the CD version just does not do it for me. -

Another thumbs up for the Boss GT-6B. Takes a bit of time, but I got some great sounds from this unit with a bit of persistence. Built like a tank as well. Super used buy if you can get one.

New cheap Marcus Miller endorsed range of basses - Sire
leroydiamond replied to Clarky's topic in Bass Guitars
a mate of mine has one on order and I look forward to seeing one of these in the flesh and taking it out on a gig. -
Plenty of happy Markbass users around my patch. The thing is, Markbass have a plethora of amps on the market in their attempt to attract all comers. In the past I bought a LM11 and thought it was nothing special. Then I got hold of the now discontinued F500 and it blew me away (This is an excellent used buy if you can find one). So I would advise checking out as many Markbass amps as possible before deciding. i cannot comment on the Fender amps as I have not had the pleasure of hearing one.

Love it!

I used the now discontinued Markbass F500 with Markbass traveller cabs for several years. The F500 was a terrific and the cabs were light and portable. A really reliable rig.
Got mine today at 3.30pm.. It's a wonderful instrument. It feels great-very tactile. The build quality seems very high, very well finished. The action is reasonably low out of the box & with the pick up cover on would need to come down a touch. I've just had a little bit of time playing & the electronics will provide a huge range of tones with some really nice growly lows & sweet highs! Here's some pics.. https://www.flickr.c...57650941569855/
Nice bass! Any idea what the weight is? -
Classic albums that you need to listen to.
My choice would be 'Made in Japan' by Deep Purple. As good as a live album can be.
listened to this the other night and totally agree. This, like many of the albums from this era works so much better on vinyl IMO. The CD remaster just sounds sterile in comparison IMO -
That's interesting... I'll go and have a look at it. Edit: Is there anywhere in the UK it can be got from?
Not that I am aware of. This Kustom amp got a lot of positive comment on TB so I went searching and muziker.de was the only place I could find one, but I am more than pleased . I use this amp together with a Berg CN212 playing in a rock covers band and it really rocks my boat.

I have no experience with GK micros, but have gone through various Markbass amps. More recently I have been working with a ToneHammer 500 and Tecamp Puma 900. Last November I took Delivery of a Kustom KXB500. Purchased it online from muziker.de and it cost £285. My intention was to use it as a back up, but since the day I plugged this unit in the Puma has not seen the light of day and I have moved the TH500 on. The Kustom KXB500 is the best micro I have used. Highly recommended and cheap as chips.
-
I purchased The cheap as chips Kustom KXB500 as a back up for my Puma 900 and Tone Hammer 500. Well the Kustom is now my go to amp. It is the best micro amp I have ever had. Highly recommended.
-
I own the TH500 and the Puma 900. Very different amps IMO. The Th500 is more old school and is not a plug and play amp. The EQ took a little bit of working out in order to get a tone that worked for me. The Puma is more modern sounding and is good at offering up those glassy highs that might be favoured for modern slap tones. Both fine amps. However recently I pulled the trigger on a 'cheap as chips' Kustom KXB500. My intention was to have this as a back up. Well to my surprise this is my go to amp now. Straight out of the box this micro sounds fantastic IMO. Really thick tone with real weight to the notes and Plenty of power on tap. Last weekend, after several weeks of using the Kustom KXB500 I decided to use the Puma for a gig and did not get past the soundcheck before opting for the Kustom KXB500. IME It is the best micro I have ever used. I use mine with a Berg CN212 and sincecI got it neither the TH500 or Puma have seen the lught of day.
Been looking for one of these for a while and picked one up on gumtree a month or so ago. Just thought I'd post a pic. Great bass, really pleased with it!
i used to have a fretless version exactly like this. It was a cracking bass. Very well built, worked well both in active and passive mode and light weight as well. Enjoy!

Love my Sadowsy nyc j bass. Light, sounds great and terrific action. A mate of mine took back a new Fender jazz in 2010 from the USA for me. There were significant issues with the fretwork on that piece of junk. Will never figure out how it passed QC. However my pre cbs Fender jazz is my all time favourite bass.
