1. That sure was a quick sale. He who hesitates is lost
2.
Via my local PMT they're £139. Steep, but still worth it I reckon.
The best money you will spend ime. When it comes to looking after your hearing, top class protection is the only protection.
3.
I think they are infinitely better than off the shelf plugs, but not sure where they get a £160 price tag justification, myself. Simple moulds, simple attentuator ...??
On this side of the water they came in at 300 euro (£240) but that included a hearing test. Pretty expensive, but they are an excellent piece of kit imo and ime.
4.
Nice! I'm really quite taken aback about how much this looks like my Metro. Literally identical apart from the flame board and EMG's, if I was to go NYC it'd have to have satin black hardware and some sort of quilt/flame top. GLWTS!
looks can be deceptive as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The nyc chambered body is the game changer here. Decreased weight and sweeter resonence ime. Bump for a cracking sadosky and really good value at this price.
5. Just check the strings are not too high on the Jazz. The performance of the pick ups can be compromised if they are too close to the strings
6. I am using custom fit ACS plugs and recommend them highly. Prior to getting my ACS' I used the generic 'xmas tree' plugs, in the belief that I was protecting my hearing. However with the onset of tinnitus, i visited the Audiologis who broke into laughter when I presented my 'xmas trees'. Hindsight is of course 20/20 vision, ime generic plugs are a waste of time. Once you go down the custom route, the generics seem like toys.
7.
Trickier, yes; but my Jazz is fairly well relic'd - and the decal is on top of the finish, as was the case on early Jazzes. Totally agree. The 'Fedner' thing has been done to death. Mark would be better off (imho) to go with something completely different that's simple and unmistakeable. I'd base it on an appropriate typeface myself, but as an ex-typesetter I'm biased...
Yep. There is an opportunity of doing something really creative re. a headstock logo here. Hopefully it would be something a little more rock n roll than the Nash logo, though Nash basses seem to be pretty popular.
8. If these basses are that good at this price, then the product should stand on its own 2 feet regardless of the decal on the head.
9.
Weight of the bass please?
already asked
10. Never saw Queen live and imo much of their recorded material was a little hit and miss. But I always felt they were excellent musicians and Mercury was just a glorious front man. Deacon done exactly what was a required imo and I am full of support for him hanging up his hat after Mercury's death and avoiding the Queen/Rodgers nonsense. I will never forget watching Queens performance on tv at 'Live Aid' in '85. That really put down a marker and imo blew the rest away on the day.
11. I reckon 'Celebration Day' really works as a visual feast. Watched it for the umpteenth time last weekend and was blown away yet again. So many good moments. The thing is, Zep had so many great tunes and that's why they stand out so much imo. However listening to 'Celebration Day' on CD, I find is underwhelming imo. The dropped key changes really sound obvious and the renditions of some of the tracks, just do not compare with the studio versions. But when one considers that the O2 gig was Zep's their first full performance in nearly 30 years ( No warm up gigs etc.) it stands up really well. They were putting so much on the line and had it gone belly up, they would have been a laughing stock. I reckon Plant was right to resist a Zep tour. He realises he is not the vocalist he once was and it would be a major struggle to get it right (are you listening Ian Gillan) so better leave things as they are. Jason done a wonderful job, but understandably he did not nail the groove his Dad had in abundance (No disrespect to Jason here. His Dad was a one off). A mate of mine reckons " no John Henry Bonham--no Zeppelin", but that's a debate for another day.
12. Had a bass cab shipped by GAK to Ireland and they were a pleasure to deal with 10/10
13.
Thanks everyone! We had a fantastic night! Seat of the pants stuff at times but I think we nailed it.... Leroy - pick (of course!) We're playing Dartford Mick Jagger Centre in 2 weeks times so would be great to see anyone who can make it! http://www.themickja....aspx?event=558
Great! What a great bass player Lynott was, not to mention his song writing skills and the fact that he looked fantastic. there is only one way to nail those bass lines and that is with a pick. Continue to enjoy
14. I have gone from 6 to 2 in the last year. Really happy with 2 cracking basses. Get a little GAS when I am looking at the For sale section in here but nothing that I cannot resist.
15. Hi have been persevering with the gruvgear duo strap. Initially i found it difficult to get accustomed to it, but after several weeks of regular use i can really recommend this piece of kit. My issue was shoulder pain and the duo strap disperses the weight of the bass across both shoulders. My bass weighs 7lb but still caused difficulties when strapped to one shoulder.
16. bump for easily the best bargain in the for sale section imo
17. What a great album to be covering! will you be using fingers or pick?
18. imo it is perfectly reasonable for the supplier to inform customers of the weight of the instrument. For me it is essential to know the weight prior to purchase. The bathroom scales method is a bit of a joke to be honest. I have a good quality digital luggage scales and that is pretty accurate.
19. Loved the first 2 albums, but that was it for me
20. Have one of these and it is a great cab!.
21. Fantastic News. I have huge admiration for the man. Oozes class both as a musician and a human being.
22. That looks totally beautiful. Sexy even. ooooh!
23.
I had this problem with stringing my bass up the other week. Turns out i cut it too short, so it wasn't getting enough grip, and slipped out as i was tensioning it. I found a solution though, instead of buying a new string
Genius!
