Fender Marcus Miller Jazz - MKII Made In Mexico
leroydiamond replied to AndyTravis's topic in Bass Guitars
Thanks. That is heavy.
i tried out a couple of the earlier Jap MM models but the weight was a real turn off. The Mexican MM models seem like a really well put together bass, shame they are so heavy (Strange that other Mexican Fender jazzes rarely come close to such a weight). -

Elixir Strings massive price increase...
leroydiamond replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
So it's cheaper to buy a set of decent flats than a set of elixirs?! Silly decision IMO.
Silly if flats are your thing. Flats are not for me I'm afraid -
Elixir Strings massive price increase...
leroydiamond replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
I've used DR Black Beauties (coat wears off very quickly and they die fast too), Elixirs (too much coat, very soft feeling), Warwick EMPS (superb but expensive (£37, made by Cleartone), and now I use Cleartone, the same as Warwick EMPs but £23.50 on ebay. See my post above about their characteristics.
I will certainly give the Cleartones a try out. I think its bye bye elixirs. I just refuse to be ripped off and that sort of a price increase is just robbery -
Elixir Strings massive price increase...
leroydiamond replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
I have been using elixirs for years, but if I have to endure such a huge price increase I will be changing to another brand. This kind of price increase is an insult to bass players. -
Together with issues relating to the technique of the player making a difference, there is also the level of emotion the bassist puts into his playing. Tone may not be just skin deep.

Why Are Jazz Basses Heavier Than Precisions ?
leroydiamond replied to Dingus's topic in Bass Guitars
I could do with that kind of assistance in helping be get to grips with my personal finances -
Really pleased with my Pro17's from ACS Custom.Only gigged with them once, but they are much better than my old er15'S. They fit a lot deeper in the ear, and the extra 2db reduction makes a huge difference. Money well spent and will hopefully help to ward of deafness for a few more years
Congrats. You have just purchased the best piece of kit on the market IMO.

How to store the music from YouTube vids as mp3

Indeed. I'm off to bed
OK OK OK!! READ what I've written, don't react like you just found out I pooched your mum after your dad went out to see Dean Friedman again. I'm barely familiar with the Beatles music (always disliked them since I was little and I still think Lennon was a nasty piece of work), but I thought I should at least give an album a try and Basschatters recommended Revolver to me yesterday. So I bought it and have listened to the album three times since last night. I quite like the album, I doubt I'll ever be a fan, but some songs like She Said She Said and Tomorrow Never Knows blew me away, some of the others are getting there. HOWEVER, I was surprised that it all felt very familiar. I realised that this is likely because even now, many mainstream pop acts are derivatives, hip hop being the general exception. There was nothing like the Beatles before them, they innovated, they are the most iconic, successful and enduring pop band ever unless I'm mistaken. Is the music INDUSTRY still thinking that to get another Beatles on their disgusting leeching books, they have to find a band that sounds like them in modern guise? Have the Beatles unwittingly created a set of boundaries that the industry is incapable of transcending in its quest for massive pop hits? Have they misjudged the young so much that they think they cant accept real innovation in mainstream pop music?
Indeed. I'm off to bed

Any body come across this http://www.gruvgear.com/duostrap-neo

another advantage of the NYC is that you can order it to suit your needs re. pick up type/ configuration and neck shape.
-
I use the Markbass traveller 15 together with the 2 by 10 traveller cab and Markbass F 500 amp. Cannot see myself changing this set- up. Interestingly Markbass cabs come in for a fair share of negative comment but to my ears this set up is wonderful.

I went for an NYC because I required a light weight base and have no regrets. I have no experience of the Metro but they get good reviews

I will not see them on this tour but last time out I caught them at the O2 in Dublin. We had fantastic seats ( 14 rows back from the stage at the centre-fantastic sound ) and thoroughly enjoyed the gig. The band were on fire and the sound was perfect. However other punters I spoke with on the night had varying experiences regarding sound quality depending on their location in the venue. This appears to be a common occurence, at least in the O2 in Dublin. Maybe when it comes to these super large venues, its hit and miss in relation to sound quality. For me an important issue, from a visual perspective at least, is to get seats close up and reasonably centred. I want the experience of being at a gig as opposed to an event. The idea of looking at a big screen all night, together with paying a lot of dosh for a ticket, and the possibility of a poor mix, well I would just prefer to grab a beer and watch the DVD. What a band though, truly inspiring

Good and bad ways to listen to music
leroydiamond replied to MiltyG565's topic in General Discussion
During my time away from bass playing I probably enjoyed listening to music more than I do know. Nowadays the "Muso" dominates when I listen and I fall into the trap of analysing music in terms of bass guitar tone, musician competency, quality of mastering etc. In the past as a punter,I just listened for pure enjoyment and was probably more in touch with the essence of the music. Anyway I primarily listen to music on my Hi Fi, preferring vinyl as a medium using a Linn Sondek turntable and steer away from headphones. -
Aguilar DB750, should I swap to a Tone Hammer 500?
leroydiamond replied to jembullo's topic in Amps and Cabs
A mate of mine had a 750 and the sound was killer. Its just the weight that makes it a prohibitive option for me. I tried the Tonehammer 500 but found the preamp was maxing out so settled for a markbass f500 -
To go even further, one might argue that Bonzo was good to the end whereas the others rather fell off as the years progressed. Plant's voice went, Page dipped himself in skag and bad ju-ju while Jones was seduced by the lure of nasty synthesizers. Last couple of albums were so-so, IMO, but you wouldn't fault the drumming. .
Overall they were really consistent. 'In Through the Out Door' reflects a band struggling to maintain their high standards. At least they had the decency to call it a day after Bonham's passing. Simply irreplaceable
-
Have to agree with Dingus here- No Bonzo, No Zeppelin
-
It certainly is a case of apples and oranges here, but there might be a few fellow Zep heads out there who want to vent their spleen.
-
Our friends on talkbass seem to think that the little upstart Beauford Carter leaves the supreme Bonzo in the shade. Shame I say. Time for the basschatters to make their views known. Here's the link http://www.talkbass....-bonham-982455/

Use elixir strings, wipe them down immediately after every gig and it makes a difference. Use orange oil on rosewood boards
-
Great strings. Really smooth to play and just keep their tone gig after gig.
