1. Great cab at a great price. Cannot believe it hasn't sold. Best bargain I have seen on here in a long time.
2. I put split coil fralins into my fender jazz and was underwhelmed. The stock fenders were better IMO
3. This looks like a crackin bass and at a reasonable price
4. Used a 5 string for a few years until i picked up an old Fender Jazz, fell in love and am now back to 4. Switching from 4 to a 5 was pretty smooth, but going back down to a 4 from a 5 was more difficult. However for me a 4 string feels more like home
5. in my experience a class player using a squire will get a better tone than an average player using a high end/boutique bass. I tended in the past to focus on gear in the pursuit of tone, but feel that concentrating on technique and control yields greater dividends
6. I used fralin hum cancelling pickups in my american '62 reissue fender jazz and was unimpressed.
7.
There are also time-weighted exposure levels to consider. Punters shouldn't normally need earplugs, any damage to their hearing will be temporary. Motorhead are damn loud live, but it's doubtful you'd get permanent threshold shift from seeing them, but you'll almost certainly have some temporary hearing loss after the show. The people who work in the crew and at the venue are a different case however, and are covered by the noise at work regs, and their exposure vastly exceeds that of the punters.
+1. I like many bass players like to be in close proximity to the drums in order to allow the rhythm section to gel. The crack of the snare drum together with the loud sizzle of crash symbols would simply melt my ears if I was not to use ear protection. The punter does not have to consider these concerns
8.
Went to get some ACS Customs last night and my ears are too blocked with wax!! He said he couldn't take the moulds, which is understandable. Funny thing is i only got my ears syringed/cleaned a couple of months ago!
Even a small amount of wax build up in the ear canal compromises the likelihood of getting an accurate mould. Well done on choosing moulded plugs. They appear costly, but once you start to use them you will realise you are taking the best step in protecting your hearing, and avoiding the risks associated with using generic plugs
9. Thats the thing about GAS. You can end up replacing your stuff for the hell of it, only to find out that the gear you have just sold/traded was doing a better job than the new toys.
10. Used to but not not any more. Just love the tone of my Sadowsky which has a superb and versatile preamp. Nothing more required
11.
Haven't read the thread, but I'd just like to say that it's the mastering that's boils my p*ss. It's all mastered for tin-pot car speakers or earphones bought from a market stall. It's like listening to wallpaper.
+1. Though CD may be capable of great things it is no surprise to hear Rush, Muse, RHCP, Metallica..........etc sound like a bag of spanners due to mastering. More obscure artists tend to produce a better quality product, audio wise IMO. No surprise that albums recorded many years ago replayed on a decent turntable sound far superior to CD due to the current "louder is better" mastering process. Check out www.turnmeup.org for interesting discussion on this.
12.
generic, 1st time id worn them on stage, not used to the sound yet, I thought it was getting louder but dint realise it had come loose, bummer
generic earplugs are next to useless IMO. No two ear canals are the same and the only adequate solution are custom made plugs. I use ACS and they are excellent and get over any concerns regarding the loudness or otherwise of the band
13. Were your ear protectors generic, or custom made to fit the shape of your ear canals?
14.
I've a lot of time for Phil the musician. Great rock frontman and songster whos songs and band continue to influence. Rightly so. Let's not forget WHY he's gone though. Nothing cool about that. I like to think that if I'd had the talent and the breaks to aceive such siccess I'd have done better than abuse the rewards that brings and force those that love me to watch me do it.
He went the path of so many before him ( Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin, the list goes on). A young working class guy who embraced the fame and associated trappings that the rock lifestyle offered him. Fell into the trap of addiction like so many of his peers and Did not survive. He was just human after all.
15.
I have to disagree regarding the price it is a 3 way cab with a custom crossover. I have seen 2 way design that cost more. It is the best built cab I have ever owned as well as the best sounding. When you get a chance to see and try one you will understand why I think the price is a great deal.
In fairness, I have not seen this cab in the flesh and it may be well worth the money. Guess I had not envisaged parting with this amount of cash. If I can sell off some gear it may well be top of my list. Thanks for the recommendation
16.
I have an F500 running into an EAD Foundation 212 and it is simply fantastic.
That looks like a great cab (GAS build up). very pricey though.
17.
Yep, I'd go with this. I only ever gig with a 250 watt head and it's always more than capable, I've never needed it passed 11 o'clock and the mark bass 210 fills the room so effortlessly and with plenty of bottom end. I don't get this need for a minimum of million watt + amps. Dan
I have tried using the F500 with the both the 1x15 and 2x10 individually and for my purposes it is only when both are run together, do I get the low end and crunchy mids that I need. thanks for all the responses.
18. Great front man and wrote beautiful bass lines. Dancing in the moonlight is one of my favourite songs. The first three bass notes, set up the mood of the song-a real classic. Vocally beautiful to listen to and wrote beautiful songs (eg. Still in love with you). Met him in person and he was charismatic but generous in spirit. Stick on a vinyl copy of live and Dangerous and its all there. Will always be missed.
19. Thanks for all the comments and recommendations.
