I am currently using a little mark11 with a 1/15 and 2/10 markbass traveler series cabs. i am looking to replace the little mark with an amp that will give me a more aggressive tone that will cut through the mix in a rock setting. Any suggestions out there ?

Have a roadie 11 since 1985. No bendy neck here. Great value for the money, I mean its hand made, a beautiful design and great woods!. still sounds magic. I will never part with it
I wouldn't buy the USA Fenders out of principle - the prices here are ridiculous.
And their quality is totally inconsistent. Bought a new fender jazz on line a couple of years ago and the fretwork was dreadful.

Excellent find. A must have for the little mark 111

+1 on markbass. I have been using a little mark 11 for several years and they are a fab amp. Super reliable too -
Wrist Tendonitis issues - instrument options?
leroydiamond replied to thisnameistaken's topic in General Discussion
Back story: I've had tendon problems in both wrists for the last couple of years but since I finished my last bass guitar gig in July last year and have only played double bass since then my wrists have gradually recovered and I haven't had any pain/scratchiness from either wrist for a couple of months. Last night I had a jam with some new musicians I'm trying to shoe-horn into a band, and I played my Thumb bass for about three hours. Woke up this morning and my left wrist is not feeling too great. So I'm thinking I may have to shift my beloved Thumb bass and look for something more comfortable to play. I would rather not go with a short-scale bass if I can avoid it, but apart from that obviously my primary concern is a bass I can actually play on a daily basis. I'm a little bit worried that I was often playing a Jazz during the period I started with wrist problems but perhaps with a strap adjustment I can get a Fender working OK. Any suggestions? I'm also tempted to look at fives, but that's probably a silly idea.
I remember being at a gig and the bass player wore the bass so that the strap went over his shoulder and up between his legs and attached to the heel of the instrument which required the bass to sit in a vertical position in a similar fashion to that of the double bass. The player in n question told me that after years of playing double he struggled to settle with the position of the guitar and adapted this alternative strapping arrangement and found it an effective option -
I use a markbass 1 by 15 and 2 by 10 traveller cabs together with a little mark 11. I want to purchase a backup amp but would like something a little different to markbass. Any suggestions as to what would me a good match for the traveller cabs
Just to add my ten pence worth, I just got a pair of Etymotic ER20's for less than a tenner and they're fantastic. Takes all frequencies down to a safe level and the standard fit are absolutely perfect. I'd recommend them to anyone. Lovely plugs.
I could not recommend standard plugs. No two ear canals are the exact shape and hence the only safe solution are moulded plugs. (I have been using ACS and am very satisfied.

Its a great tune. Phil was such a fabulous bass player!!

Earplug. replacing Alpine MusicSafe Pro
leroydiamond replied to TheBear's topic in General Discussion
@leroydiamond: I can't disagree with you. But well, i must wait a bit for 180 euros @Louis: I'll thus renew with the same set
Yea 180 euro is a significant outlay for sure. However would you give 180 euro for a a top class bass amp or your dream bass guitar? without a doubt you would. Now ask yourself this question. If you suffered significant hearing loss and/or tinnitus would you pay 180 euro to make a full recovery?. Well hears the deal, once your hearing is damaged its damaged forever. No amount of money will undo the damage. i would give every last penny i have to rid myself of hearing loss and tinnitus that has been self induced as a result of playing bass without the proper hearing protection. i used standard plugs thinking i was protecting my hearing. I was fooling myself. Now i use ACS moulded plugs and these have allowed me to retain the hearing I have left and continue to gig. Proper moulded plugs are the best equipment any musician can buy and should be an essential tool for all musicians exposed to loud music. The thing is you really need to get them before you damage your hearing. -
Rush - Time Machine Tour Blu Ray / DVD / CD
leroydiamond replied to wateroftyne's topic in General Discussion
Just got the dvd. I thought Time stand still was really good as I haven`t played the track in ages but I was really dissapointed with Geddy`s singing. He just can`t seem to hit the high stuff anymore. No more Rush dvd`s for me I`m afraid. At least I didn`t pay 60+ quid to see them live. I`m away back to watch some of the earlier stuff. Jez
i have not purchased the DVD yet but I saw them in Dublin last May and Geddy's vocals were faultless. I have seen them a number of times over the years and this was Rush at their best -
Earplug. replacing Alpine MusicSafe Pro
leroydiamond replied to TheBear's topic in General Discussion
Hi, It's time for me to replace my Alpine MusicSafe pro set. I could buy the same set, however, I think it's good to look around before Has anyone any recommandations? I'm not moving yet to molded earplug, so I'll take any recommandations on "standard kits" Thanks, Chris
I can certainly appreciate the expense in moving to moulded plugs verses standard. But standard plugs cannot compensate for the exact shape of your ear canal and may not give you a total seal and thereby the necessary protection. That has been my experience. Moulded are the only way to go if your serious about protecting your hearing. -
As per the title I'm very nearly ready to buy myself a small lightweight but pokey and sensibly priced combo (Christmas present from my wife), and the Promethean seems to fit the bill - On paper! Therein lies the problem. In today's world of internet shopping you can't get to try this stuff, and £550 is an awful lot of money to spend on something you've not even tried. I've hardly seem any bad things said about them ( a few comments about hiss, and one about clipping), except when compared with gear that costs twice as much. I know that Thomann (seem to be the cheapest currently) will take stuff back if you're not happy, but I'm still feeling a bit uneasy about pressing the 'buy' button. Anybody out there got words of reassurance for me, or even words of warning? I need to press the button soon if I'm to get it by Christmas. Thanks, The Count.
i have purchased gear off thomann and returned it and there was no problem with refund, but the buyer has to pay the return shipping cost. Personally i prefer to buy across the counter. but its not always possible
Plugs are not ideal but they are a million percent better than the alternatives of going deaf or stopping playing. I'm not a big fan of either of those or of the noises I live with on a daily basis because I didn’t start to use plugs soon enough. You’ve just got to deal with it.
+1 Get those plugs and use them now!! you will only miss the water when the well runs dry. I am just sorry I did not start using plugs years ago. in my experience musicians only start to use plugs when the damage is done (just like me!). So look after your hearing guys. once its damaged its damaged forever

Different markbass cabs offer different types of voicing. i use the traveller series and they are compact and light. they lack the the punchy mids of the larger 4 by tens and are probably best suited to jazz as opposed to rock IMO
I tried the MB TTE, but eventually settled on the Streamliner. The TTE has a great tone, and I think it is quite unique in the MB range as it sounds quite like an Ampeg. That said, for the price I don't understand the things they missed off: no headphone out, no aux in, no mute, only one of the MB filters (although it is tube driven), I mean who actually uses much of the tone controls on their Markbass stuff? For me they're all about their filters. Also it's got little LEDs inside to look like glowing tubes, whereas the Streamliner actually has... glowing tubes! (Does that make me vain?) Also there's a heck of a lot of fresh air inside the casing of the TTE which from a portability based company seems a bit strange. But I think it is well worth a look as there's a lot right with it too. Still remarkable lack of grit for so many tubes...
Thanks. Great to hear from someone who has experience of both. what cabs do you use with the streamliner?
-
If you want a more tube like sound, and want Markbass, that TTE is probably your best bet! However, at £799 i would compare it to the Orange Bass Terror, Genz Streamliner, etc. Can you get to anywhere to test? You could use the 7 day return policy.

I guess it's your call. If you want one amp then it might be nice compromise, but for the money , you could get either The LM2/3 secondhand and a tube preamp like a sansamp/ DVH (i think that's them) or a terror bass or streamliner.. I think main love is actually for the LM2/3 really or something else, not even the tube really.. After using the Terror, I don't think the MB Tube does enough.. I'd rather the LM with my sansamp to go further I'd say MB doesn't do tube... they do natural and warm very well
I might be able to get my hands on an orange terror to try out.

It appears that the markbass tube 800 is lacking enough support on this forum, suggesting a blind purchase might be too risky. Maybe going that bit extra and opting for the Markbass TTE 500 is an option. Anybody got any reports on these?

Jaydee Roadie Fretless - Thoughts?
leroydiamond replied to bassatnight's topic in General Discussion
I have a roadie 11 fretted since 1985 and they are a very well made instrument. Considering the new price is just £1,155 makes them one of the best value instruments out there. Dont know much about the frettless though. Try it out. If it plays well and is in good shape and you like the tone buy it and enjoy -
Perhaps I should not have used the word '' dissappointment '' in my description , I think ''different '' is a better word to use . As a long time Markbass user , my ears are used to the LM3 and LM250 sound , so I was probably expecting the same ( but bigger ) in the 800. I have also learnt the long, slow + expensive way that amps and cabs that sound fantastic on there own ,ie LM3, sometimes sound quite different in a loud band situation . New amps also take some time to get used to, and finding your ''sound '' in an amp will only come after a number of gigs . The Tube 800 is definately my amp of choice in a big band setting , it really does seem to find that space between guitars and drums so that you have an audible / defined bass sound even if the guitarists are doing their best to wipe you out . If I had to sell one of the amps ( I think I may have to ,anyway ) , I would probably keep the 800 and sell the LM3 .
I agree with regard to amps sounding quite different on their own when compared with a band situation. I have tried out gear in shops loving the tone and when its transferred to a gig situation it can be a let down.
