1. Grrrr.... trust my bloody luck, Janek Gwizdala and Bob Reynolds are playing in a local bar at the end of the month on probably the only date I can't make Check out his website if it's your sort of thing as I think he has a couple of other UK dates.
2. All the bit's assembled as a test run, electrics all working. Nut still needs cutting, scratchplate is in the process of being refined and the finish needs doing but I'm loving the way it looks so far. 3. Even if you were not allowed to sell secondhand stuff I guess you could let people have there gear displayed on the stand (for a fee) for people to try and contact details of each owner so a potential buyer and the seller could hammer out a deal privately.
Upright Tone?
I think some heavy compression would help bring the click out and even create a kind of swell plus maybe slipping something under the strings down near the bridge to help mute the strings or play with the thumb and use some palm mutiing as I'm not sure any of the effects have an envelope to reduce volume/sustain.
5. That there is inspiration for me to do something similar to one of my SR5's Looks great and I bet it sounds monstrous.
6. I vote for number 1 as I'm very taken with buckeye that has lots of black in it, it's top of my list for the next build.
7.
Yeah, I'll see if I can swing it. Not sure how much it'll cost and no way of telling how much £ we'll have spare (spending a lot on some neat developments here on site). Perhaps I can blag a free table somewhere!
Fair point it could be pricey to have a stand but you may get some of the money back selling BC merchandise.
8. If there was a BC stand next year that would be an ideal place to meet up with others forum members.
9.
You know what worries me the most? IIRC only one person in this thread (who now doesn't gig) has admitted to suffering from it. And here was I thinking it was pretty common and people just had better coping mechanisms then me!
As mentioned by others I think being nervous is something that most people would feel to some degree but suffering from a debilitating stage fright isn't so common and also quite hard for people to understand, I remember being told once, "you'll be all right once you get up there and start the first tune" but that's when my brain trashes all memory and my fingers stop working.
10.
Best Jaco bassline ever! Edit: Youtube clip with less scratches.
I've loved this bassline for years, for me Jaco's work with singers is where he really grooves.
11. Ooo I've subscribed to this, look forward to it coming together.
12.
That's me after 5 pints. But I have less hair.
After 5 pints I'd be playing up the dusty end oblivious to the rest of the band exiting stage left in disgust
13.
On stage...
That's a great picture.
14. Good work! I kinda like those metallic colours, I have a cheap OLP bass in a sort of metallic teal/green/blue.
15.
There's a reasonably clear line between pre-gig nervousness and stage fright. Most of us are afflicted by the former and many are afflicted by the latter.
Very good point made there.
16.
This is bad??? Crikey, that's my entire career written off in one sentence.
17. The Bass Centre had one of the 'Norm' tribute basses on their stand at the bass guitar show at Olympia, I wouldn't buy one but it looked nice.
18. Next year if I go I'll avoid the main room and turn up just before the first masterclass I want to see.
19.
Rumple, you should have said hi! And seashell was with me while I was talking to Jason of Rotosound.
It would have had to have been in sign language
20. I'm the same, I think I'd colapse if I had to play a gig now. Back in the day it was a very fine balance between drinking enough to get on stage and not blank out from fear and drinking too much, getting over confident, overing play and making things up on the spot
21. I'm home again! it's great that there is a dedicated bass show but all those basses being slapped at once made for a horendous sound, next year I shall go for specific workshops etc. The only Basscatter I passed and recognised was 'bluejay' but she was deep in conversation on the Rotosound stand so I didn't butt in to say hi. Look forward to peoples reports on the various performances over the next day or so. R.
22. Can't fault that, looks amazing.
23. That may be a little misleading, it's 'minus a fiver' off the originally posted price, I shouldn't have been so lazy and acually written the word rather then use the symbol
