1. Thanks, It's a bit of a cross between Lakland/MM I guess.
2. You can buy a stacked set-up from here: http://www.grguitars.com/parts_5bass.htm I haven't used them yet but plan to order some aged P ashtrays at some point.
3. Couple of New Year pics, there may be some more tomorrow
4. Sounds interesting, I had a Varitone on my Jazz 5 build but I didn't like it so I got a mate to wire in standard pots with one switches used for series/parallel, I didn't know what to do with the other switch so it's an on/off at the moment but this might be worth a try. Would different caps give variation on a theme?
5.
Oh well, I can't afford it at the moment, anyway! Seriously though, do let me know if you decide to move it on...
I would always give you first refusal on it, it still feels a bit like I have it on loan anyway Right I'm off to search for OLP's
6. No the P is going nowhere Mark, I'm on the look out for some suitably aged pup covers for it
7. Picked-up an OLP Ray 5 copy here for £150 to leave at a relatives house as a cheap pracitce bass to save lugging one over there each time I visit, I can't put it down and will be taking it to the next rehearsal instead of any of the others I own, I've had a 'real' Stingray 5 before but actually prefer the passive sound of the OLP, it could do with a set up and I might ask Wizard if they can rewire the pick-up but even as it is it may become my weapon of choice. I need another one now.
8. The advantage for me of a 5er is I take one bass to a rehearsal and it's covers everything without having to drop the E string to D for some of the songs we cover, I like the narrow string spacing to. The down side is weight, some are very heavy indeed. I played some bum notes and got a bit flustered when I first switched but it wasn't long before I was hooked.
9. I'm after a Mark Bass Compressore, I'd be happy to trade my EBS Multi Comp, Monte Allums modded Boss CS3, Boss CS2 or buy it outright from you. If you have one you want to move on or see a secondhand one up for sale plase PM me. R.
10. Sounds like a good idea, our very own Henry Norton (Lawrence) made the neck for me, it's basically a narrower Lakland style with no markers, he's making me a fretless bass at the moment, I'm very happy with his work. The routed body and scratchplate were made by Basschatter Bass Doc (Howard) so you could try getting a quote from both of them to make you a bespoke neck. I think Howard is making a bass for 'discreet' (Mark) ?
11. It was £150 so probably not worth it in this instance, maybe just keep an eye on the 'for sale' section here on Basschat for a secondhand Fender or Squier one? the good thing about doing that is if you don't get on with that particular neck you can sell it on at no or very little loss of £'s
12. You could try a UK luthier to get the exact neck you need, probably cost you a bit more then a stock one but I'd say it's worth it. I had rosewood boarded 5 string one made for me with no dots and it's fab. R.
13. Bought an OLP from Steve, a pleasure to deal with, great comms. Thanks R.
14. Rumple

New Zoom B3

Depending on the price (do we know how much it will be?) I'd replace my Edirol interface with one of these.
15. Welcome, you have come to the right place for advice as there are some very knowledgeable folk on here.
16. Played one of these for years back in the 80's (in white though) and sold it to buy a Jazz Bass it's the only bass I wish I hadn't moved on. Shergold Marathon
17. True to his word here are a couple of pictures of the progress on the neck from Lawrence.
18.
Any update on this Rumple? I do love a good build thread!
Thanks for the interest, I've had a conversation with Lawrence recently about neck profiles and I'm going to go with a standard Jazz Bass shape, I know the truss rod has been fitted into the maple neck blank, I'm not sure if the carving has started yet on the neck or routing of the body. With a little luck I'll have some updated pics to post in the not too distant future. R.
19. Drat a bit too slow for the case, PM me if Ruiner doesn't take it.
20. Few pics from Lawrence of all the bits.
21.
A few days ago, i just had this track licensed through a Library company i use, for a Sony PSP mini game. As a back ground looped instrumental [Release Jan 2012] This was at a Buy out price, and quite a good payer. Someone listened to the track on Soundcloud then contacted me for possible Licensing. Then my Library company did the rest. So it seems Soundcloud could have good benefits to it... http://soundcloud.co...chno-laboratory Garry
I like the tune and well done on making some money from your music.
22. I had a CS-3 modded with one of the Monte Allums kits and it's now a great compressor. The noise you are getting could be from your bass or amp and not the compressor, the compressor would increase the volume of that noise, might be worth checking first. R.
