Cheers I have been following the other Reason thread. I've tried Reaper and it's very good especially as an alternative to more expensive linear DAW's, the non commercial version is only about $30 a real bargain. Shame someone doesn't make a non linear cheaper alternative to Ableton or Reason. Good idea about trying all the demo versions first

Following this topic with interest as I want to try something other then Cubase for making tunes, it's fine for recording live instruments but I want to do more stuff with loops and sampling, I was thinking Reason but after some sugestions from Basschatters I have been looking at Ableton Live, it's a totally different way of working but that's a good thing. Just need some cash - hmm.. what can I sell Reaper is great and so cheap, worth a look for multi tracking.

I shall do a bit of research into Ableton Live and see what it's all about. Thanks Chaps.

Thanks for replying Tuco Out of interest what did you get sick of? I have tried Reaper which is only about 30 dollars and you can try it for free plus it runs VST's which Reason doesn't. It's more to do with how I used to work with my limited equipment, maybe I just need a simple midi sequencer and a decent VST sampler. The reason for Reason (sorry ) is I thought it might be more intuative when working with loops and samples. R.

Many years ago I use to have Stenibergs Pro 24 running on an Atari hooked up to a ESI-32 (now in the loft) and it was great fun doing electronic sample and looped based tunes but over the years I have messed about with Cubase and Audacity etc and although they are great for recording a band I was wondering if something like Reason might work more like the old school way of doing things. Is it worth the £££'s or is there a cheaper alternative. Any thoughts would be appreciated. R.

Once I have the last couple of bits for this I have decided I'm going to take it all to a luthier and get the body sprayed up and the whole thing assembled and set up. Time the bass was finished!
Doubt it was me, I don't have a visa for Beckenham However... I *think* the jam still happens at the Cherry Tree by Norwood Junction station on alternate Sundays (trouble is I can never remember which week it's on). Also, the long-running Tuesday jam at the Forest Hill Hotel has relocated to the Perry Hill Tavern (formerly The Two Brewers) 78-80 Perry Hill SE6 4EY. Still on Tuesdays, kicks off about 9 ish. They also run a Blues evening on Thursdays (the old Rutland Arms lot) and are putting bands on other nights too - plus they serve Spitfire, which is no bad thing.
Bloody hell I used to drink in the Two Brewers many many moons ago, we gave up when my friends who lived around the corner moved away, it was as rough as a badgers ... but we had some laughs there including a couple of New Years Eve nights that have gone down in history! I might try and get along one Tuesday or Thursday night.

No huge developements on the build front, I have been too busy with work to dedicate much time to it. I have come up with design for a neck plate that the very helpful Basschatter 'dougie' is going to ask his nephew to make for me. Also I was on the look out for a black nut but Lawrence has some black blanks now and is going to shape one for me and send it over. I'm thinking if I don't get time to finish this soon I may take it to a luthier and get it sprayed, bolted together and set up. R.
It used to be the other way around. I bought a new Fender Precision in 1976 and it came with flats as stock.
Good point, My first bass was a Precision copy bought new circa 1978 and it came with black flats as standard.
There's a little machine shop under the arches at Catford Bridge station: C & R Metalworks, 12 Station Approach Catford Bridge London SE6 4RE 020 8690 3336 Maybe worth a wiggle.
Thanks for the heads up for such a local company. On a seperate note do they still have the jam sessions at The George in Beckenham? I think it was you that told me about them!
Hey, I'm sure i replied to your pm that you sent me? The finish is great, its only a gloss but absolutely no sign of overspray and no cracks or lines anywhere. It could be worth giving Molan a pm as he has had this bass ands its 4 string brother so will be able to tell you what the pair were like. Jake
Forgive me, now you mention it you did reply. Thanks again Jake Dave

I have come up with a design for a bespoke neck plate for my project bass and I'm on the look out for someone to make it for me out of stainless steel, I found one guy preparred to make it but it takes him a week to reply to each e-mail so it could be Christmas before he actually made it! Any metal workers able to help out or recommendations appreciated. Dave

Slightly off topic but how do you rate the finish on your Siggery? I ask because I have had a reasonably priced quote from Martin to re-finish a body for me. Cheers R.

Blimey December and Jan have been very hectic work wise so this project has been a bit overlooked but yesterday my Dad was visiting and we managed to file the nut down to an acceptable level, fix the tuners on properly, ad the string retainer and countersink some holes in the body for the neck screw bushes.

What Overwater did you get?

Fantastic looking amp, it also has some of the things missing from my LM11 like 2 Speakon outs and an all important mute switch. oh and it has even less knobs
1. Are Aguilar cabs more suited to producing the more rounded vintage type sounds than the EBS Neo cabs ? I suspect this is the case, but I'd like to hear the thoughts of others that have already walked this path. There's got to be a few out there.
I had an EBS Neo 212 for quite a while it was a great cab but I found it quite agressive with a very modern sound with lots on mids, I now have a pair of GS112NT's and they have as you say a more rounded vintage sound, I love 'em. I use a LM11 but would love to try them with a Aggie amp one day. R.
