I need space which means basses need to be sold so it's time to sell my last SR5, it's a real shame as I rally like this one but I seem to have migrated back to playing 4 string basses. It's a little unusual as it's a genuine 1990's USA version in Teal but with a newer Sterling Rosewood neck fitted. Good Points: Plays really well. IMHO looks great. Quality 5 string workhorse that sounds excellent. Ideal for a Status neck project? Not So Good: As you can see from the pics the body has plenty of dings. The centre dent on the bass pot is a bit worn and when turned there's a little bit of crackle but is fine once set. Comes with a well used but functional Hiscox hard case, strung with Status Half Rounds, weighs 10lbs. To be as open an honest as is possible I used a business card to shim the neck, a very common practice for getting the action just right. £575.00 Collected from Sydenham in SE London. I'd much prefer someone to collect the bass so they can see and try it out 1st but I'm willing to ship it via the courier of the buyers choice (UK only) and at their cost. Any questions just ask and I'll do my best to answer them. PICS

I have an old Selmer Zodiac valve head I'm guessing from the early 70's, I bought it decades ago from a friend who's dad played keyboards through it, unfortunately my friend had turned it on without a speaker attached so when I got it it didn't work, Years later I changed the fuse and the two big valves which got it working again, since then it has sat at my Grandad's place collecting dust. Long story short his house will have to be sold due to ill health and I need to move this on but I have no idea what it's worth? there is one similar on Ebay BIN for silly money which is no help. I'd have to flog it as 'not working' as I don't have a cab to test it with, much time or any electronics knowledge. Any experts out there that could give me a ball park value and any additional info I'd appreciate it. I found THIS info on the internet. PICS R.

Whilst looking through my box of bits I found 3 ( odd number :s ) chrome Schaller strap pins, it's just the bit that goes on the bass without any screws, it's not a system I use so they are free to anyone who can find a use for them.
Any more progress since your last post?
Not a lot as I have had a relative staying for the last few weeks, I did manage to get another coat of paint on and drill the hole from the battery compartment to the control cavity.

Good colour choice one day I WILL own a pearl white Musicman style bass.

I've owned a JV Strat since the early eighties, it's an excellent instrument but in this day and age I'm sure you could get something to equal it in quality for less money.
-
I've started to apply the colour, it's cheap paint from Ebay so I was a little worried about the colour as it was just described as 'Maroon' but I'm liking it For starters I'll put the bass together with the adapted black pickguard but I'm thinking a cream one would look good with this body colour. Finishing a 70's maple jazz neck replica....help & advice please :)
Rumple replied to Raslee's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've not tried it myself but you can apparently use fumes from muriatic acid (concrete cleaner) to age the tuners, have a look on YouTube and see if it's something you fancy doing, I was going to try it but bottled out in the end and bought aged tuners instead. I look forward to seeing the finished bass -
I'm quite proud of myself for resisting.................... so far.

Difference in P and J sound: is it just the pickups?
Rumple replied to ingmar808's topic in General Discussion
Isn't the modern player jazz 2 humbuckers anyway?
TBH I don't know, I just assumed it had standard Jazz pick-ups -

A P bass with a Jazz Bass neck would be ideal, I have one that I love. Another option (that I also have) you could try is to put a series/parallel switch in your Jazz, it might not sound exactly like a P but will turn both pick-ups into one humbucker. -
That's right up my street, I love my red RW Bass but that's even nicer!

Superb workmanship!

I hate hearing this song, but don't mind playing it!
Rumple replied to Kevsy71's topic in General Discussion
Dead Or Alive by Bon Jovi, I protested when it was suggested by our singer, even though I still don't like the song I enjoy playing it. -
Hi Andy, I think it's four bits, it's hardly top quality timber but considering the whole bass that the body came from was just over £110 new I'm surprised it wasn't a lot worse. I'm undecided on colour now! it was going to be white but I might go for a sort of Maroon colour.

Stripped most of the finish off, just bit a of glue to go, the front and back were easy to do as the paper pealed off in chunks, the sides were a pain. I cut a hole for the battery box and the two for the new bridge. As the neck pocket was messy and it needed shimming anyway I made one from some sheets of vaneer by gluing some together and cutting to size, the same material was used to even out the sides of the neck pocket where it's narrows to accommodate the slimmer OLP neck. I also had to slim down the neck pocket on the G string side. I had to reshaper the control cavity to take the Stinger Pre Amp, it's still a pretty tight fit though. On Sunday I put the whole thing together to make sure everything works, sure enough it didn't and I had to move the bridge slightly but after that everything lined, the action was good and it played nicely. So I just need some decent weather to get out in the garden for some more sanding and spraying the primer. My fave four string is a P bass body with a Limelight Jazz bass neck on it. I never got on with Precision basses until I went down this route.

Started stripping the finish off the body today, I really should have realised a cheap bass like this didn't have a one piece body, the grain is a photo

I'm not that keen on the looks but I've thought about trying out a short or medium scale bass, something like this would be idea. Glad you like your new purchase - enjoy!
