2. It's finally finished! with the caveat that the bridge will need to the better aligned at some point, I'm holding off doing that until I can work out if the bridge has slightly too small string spacing as I can't see any adjustment to positioning it making all 4 strings line up with the pickup pole pieces. My mate wired it up for me with a push/pull switch for series/parallel modes and a PIO Cap, it sounds great in all configurations but I particularly like the sound of the bridge pickup solo'd, I usually play with both fully on but I think because the J&D pickups are quite hot it's sound great with just the Bridge on. One of the many things I've learned doing this bitsa bass is that not all parts that look like Fender parts are necessarily exactly the same dimensions, for instance the curve at the heal of the neck isn't identical on the J&D neck and Squier body, they fit together and it's fine but not perfect. same thing goes for the bell plate and pickguard. Thanks for all the comments and help I'll call it a day on this thread.
3. I'm no expert but white Nitro over black Poly will mean when the sort Nitro chips and wears away over time you will have black showing through, not necessarily a bad look but it may not be desirable.
4.
are the necks similar dimensions to a Fender Jazz??
I've just fitted a J&D neck to a Squier body and it fits but there is a slight difference in the curved part at the heal.
5. Welcome to BC and good luck with your quest.

7.
There is a super cheap bagel place down there somewhere... can't remember the name of it but it's pretty good.
http://beigelbake.com/
8.
Doesn't sound like I missed out on much... except the pre gig curry
I opted for the post gig Beigel *edited for spelling
9. Unfortunately I think acid fumes is the best way to do it from what I've read, I did buy some Muriatic Acid with the intention of trying it out but I chickened out
10. It was a bit pants wasn't it, the bass sounded horrible on any of the funky stuff, I got there a bit late but managed to get a view of the obscured bass player but I couldn't see one of the guitarists at all!
11. white/cream/blonde Telecaster with a Rosewood board and humbuckers.
12. Not my thing at all but you have done a great job As mentioned above you should post this in the 'Build Diary' section.
13.
Keep coming back to look at this! Up for trades?
Please do buy it Mark then I might get a play of it
14. Welcome to BC Roberto. If money were no object a fretless Wal would be your best bet, otherwise I'd suggest something with an ACG filter based eq.
15. If you go down the software route there is an awful lot you can do for very little money, the audio interface being the most expensive outlay. Reaper DAW and effects LaPou - for guitar amps and cab sims.
16. I'd say any decent Luthier would be able to that for you, Ideally a local one to you as you'd have to take the bass to him so he could take some accurate measurements, the guy that made my 5 string neck to match my SR5 used a kind of putty to get the profile.
17. Good luck with your search and I look forward to hearing your new venture.
18. This thread has just reminded me I have a fretless stashed away somewhere!
19. I had a TNT 150 back in the day, it got certainly the job done but was so heavy that it used to live in a caged trolley that we 'borrowed' from a local supermarket
20. Welcome back! If you open a thread asking about your Redwood I'm sure there will be BCers who can help with useful info.
21. I've learned something today, I had no idea that such a system existed!
22. I did this recently with a heat gun and scrapper and it worked, I did burn the wood a little bit and got a tad carried away with the scrapper once or twice but if you are painting it a solid colour it's easy enough to fix.
Use a heat gun with a variable heat setting like the DeWalt and you won't scorch anything, it takes a little longet with the heat right down. If you use a new scraper then file the corners into a smooth round as it is these bits that score the wood. Plasterers use this trick on their trowels. If you are going to finish with a solid Candy Apple colour then it wont matter too much you can fill any dings, if you intend using a translucent colour then be more careful.
I wish I knew this beforehand, great tips.
23. There is definitely something very sexy about this bass.
24. Sounds interesting, I look forward to this build developing.
25. Welcome to BC, enjoy the ride.
