It basically is a circuit that boosts the low frequencies, useful when playing back pickup only. So passive with a little helper....
I had a little look on the De Gier website for an explanation, it's quite a good idea.

I'll be following along. I'm off to find out what a Vanderkley Fatboost is

Can I join in Here's mine just before I sold it.

I'm a huge fan of Zoom bass effects, I had a B3 first but it was way more than I needed, I then got this MS60B before deciding to get a B1on. I've only used it half a dozen times so it's like new, it does have a little bit of Velcro on the bottom but it could easily be removed if you don't need it, comes with the original box and instructions. £60.00 delivered to the UK mainland.

Clear coat has started to go on today, as the wind has dropped and it's warm out for the 1st time in ages. So far there are only a few black and green flies stuck to the lacquer

Great page on the Guy Pratt site - full of videos.
Hmmm Love the colour, shame its a maple neck..how much does it weigh, any idea?
It's even nicer in the flesh Using the slightly non scientific method of weighing myself with and without the bass I make it bang on 9lbs, so reasonably light.

Advice on fretless with narrow string spacing, 4/5 string
Rumple replied to zawinul's topic in Bass Guitars
I did not read all the posts, so if this has been mentioned, sorry. Ibanez makes a great SR series fretless bass with a rather narrow string spacing, good actives, and well built and balanced, that is value-for-money. I don't think having to go custom is necessary. I play an older SRA305 for the same reasons the OP posted. Link: http://www.ibanez.co...d=51&color=CL01 In the USA, it has a "street price" of less than $1000.
I just watched the video at the bottom of the page and it certainly sounds nice. -
Up for sale is my OLP MM3, I've had it for years and it lived at a relatives house so I could practice there without having to take a bass with me, it cost a lot less than buying another MM SR5! I really like the neck on this bass and at one point I took the bass apart with the view to using the neck on a project and selling the body, since then I have acquired another neck for the project. When reassembling the bass I shimmed the neck and put a bit of extra foam under the pickup and it now has a nice low action. Passive VVT Electronics. The colour is really hard to photograph as it looks slightly different depending on the light, I'd describe it as metallic teal, a kinda green/blue, it has a matching headstock, there is a ding on the bottom edge of the body but apart from that it's in pretty good shape. It's strung with Status Half Rounds at the moment, they came off a bass with a 3+2 headstock so just about fit, they have been on there for a few weeks now with no problems at all but you might want to change them if you are gigging the bass or hate Half Wounds As it stands I have no spare hard case, gig bag or packing material so collection only from SE London or I could meet up in Central London or Clapham Junction. £175.00 Trade wise there's not a lot I'm after but I might consider a white Telecaster guitar, Jazz bass body, Hipshot Ultralite tuners. quality MM style 5 string pickup. I need to delete some pics to make space to upload any pics but here's one to be getting on with.
They're a bit thin on the ground, it's true! You could contact Andrew Mannering through the Shergold Forum and make him an offer! http://www.shergold....S_Marathon4fl_1
Nice enough Mark but I don't like sunburst basses.

Brand new Dimavery 5 string neck that's surplus to requirements so I thought I'd see if it's of any use to someone. Nut Width: 45mm Heel Width: 72mm Scale Length: 34" Satin finish. A couple of things to note just to be totally up front and honest, there is what I think is a small extra dark bit of grain on the back of the neck that looks a bit like a pen mark, I've ringed it in the picture, the finish where the neck meets the back of extended bit of the fingerboard isn't the best but obviously goes unnoticed once fitted. Ideal for a cheap 5 string project. [s]£35.00[/s] [s]£30.00[/s] £28.00 couriered to the UK mainland via Hermes. Possible trades - Jazz bass pickups, 5 string MM pickup, white Jazz Bass body, lollipop tuners, Rosewood Telecaster guitar neck. Hipshot Ultralite tuners. That's a real shame

It's a lovely lovely thing Mark but then you know I have a soft spot for a Shergold Marathon, if only I'd kept my white fretless one I sold in Loot back in the early 90's I wonder where it is now.
-
Fingers crossed it's finished soon.
-
It's a thing of beauty and my dream bass

Loving the one on the left (middle second photo) is it a 1966 Jazz?

A most enjoyable thread, from a readers point of view it's almost a shame it's finished.
Bummer! Happens to us all, though and, as you say, it is sometimes the excuse we all need to prompt further improvement Andy
Thanks Andy, I'm learning all the time.

Been very busy recently and this got left in the shed and forgotten about, unfortunately it fell over and the finish got damaged right down to the wood but I'm looking at it as a positive thing as I wasn't that impressed with my prep work and there were plenty of small dings and dents, so yesterday I sanded most of the finish off and applied more primer and today I've started applying the gold again, it's not perfect but a lot lot more acceptable this time I just have to make sure it doesn't fall over this time! I've ordered some hooks so I can hang it from the shed rafters rather than trying to stand it up.

Ian very kindly donated a set of used round wound strings to me, how bloody fantastic is that!

I recently bought a set of D'Addario strings from Iain, the transaction couldn't have been smoother, great comms and the stings arrived very quickly.
