1. Thanks Owen, out of interest where is he based?
2.
Look up retro169 on facebook. He has done a couple of nice finishes for me. Both relics, but he is cool to do no relics as well. Very reasonable. Cheaper if you strip it yourself.
I've just been looking at their work on Photobucket, there's not a lot of info about the company on their web site though, could you tell us more about your experience using them please?
3.
I asked for a 'light' relic job and it's still quite heavy IMO. I really love it but if you want a REALLY light relic job, make sure you let him know :-)
Yes even the light relics I've seen on this thread (including yours) would be too much for my taste, especially the metalwork, some tarnishing is good but I wouldn't want rust, I have one of the older Fender Road Worn Jazz Basses and that has about the right level or distress in my book.
4.
27B High Street South Norwood London SE25 6HA
I' think that's the address of the local driving test centre. Bass sounds huge BTW.
5. I wonder if the necks are the same size/spec on the P as the J
6.
Welcome to my world of magpie gear whore-dom
Luckily I hadn't started on the wine when the auction ended or it WOULD have been mine
7. Thanks for the clarification. I just liked the colour
8.
I asked him about blocks - he can do a block'n'bound J-profile neck for an an additional cost. I also asked him about lighter-touch rellic'ing, and he said he can reign it in a bit.
Cheers for the info, just what I needed.
9. Does anyone know if Limelight do any options? could you have blocks and/or a binding on the neck if you wanted? While I'm at it with the questions does Mark offer a light relic? all the basses I've seen on here and in real life are very lovely but a bit too worn and rusty for my liking. Thought I'd ask here 1st
10. Battered Teal SR5, custom fretless, J&D.
11. I have 3 green basses and with get them all together and take a pic soon.
12. I bailed out on bidding on this eventually as I only wanted the body, I got bit carried away though as I love the colour, afterwards I got to thinking maybe I was bidding against a fellow BC'er? it would be nice to think someone on here has nabbed it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111485796032 Out of curiosity does anyone know what make it is? I've owned Tokai's before and I don't think it's one of them.
13. I bought this on here recently and while it's been fun to play and has a big double bass like sound I can't get on with such a short scale bass. Here's a link to Gareth's original ad: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2531301 The only difference is I don't have the box for it and I have replaced the batteries in the pre amp for new one. £150.00 - Including mainland UK postage, a bit less if you want to collect it Trades: Zoom B3 or B1on, MXR M81 Pre Amp, Fender Road Worn Jazz neck and or parts, block and bound Rosewood Jazz neck, Stingray 5 pup.
14. I still use my old Whirlwind cables all the time, as good as they ever were but when I do need something new I now get them made for me by ....................... OBBM
15. I've got an old Boss CS-1 that gives this weird swell to notes, it kinda gets louder before it drops off, works quite well on fretless.
16. Great looking bass and I've always wanted to try a Sandberg, if I wasn't having a 5 string Jazz made for me I would have snapped this up. Good luck with the sale.
17. I'm fond of an Octaver on fretless it's very 80's though!
18. Mine is a tad heavy but apart from that it's as good a bass as any to gig with.
19. Tis a thing of absolute beauty, alas it's well out of my price range.
20. I think I might have to have a go on that at some point Mark - pretty please
21. My brother-in-law has a spare ticket for the RAH show so I'm now going to that, I haven't seen them live since the late 80's, hopefully there will be NO punters with whistles in the audience any more
22. Dot and bound neck, lollipop tuners ............ oh I do like a 66 Jazz Bass.
23. Funnily enough I've just been looking at bandmix.co.uk and having slightly similar thoughts, I was looking for for a keyboard player or guitarist who who just plays for a bit of fun but there is no way to filter out all the professionals. people who want paying gigs, the wrong age group or want to make it big! I gave up and went and made a nice cup of tea
24.
seen one on gumtree this morning for a silly price. don't know if I am allowed to post a link or not??
The blue one for £60? blimey that is cheap!
25. I still miss my one and I sold it it the early 80's!!!
