Great job, I like the colour.

If you like the bass you have but aren't so keen on the bulky neck you could always take the bass to a decent local Luthier and get him to slim the neck down for you, this may effect resale value so might not the best option if you are going to sell it soon. I loved the EBMM Sterling I had for a while but it was a bit too aggressive for my liking, I think they have brighter sounding ceramic pick-ups rather then more traditional Alnico ones.
The Bass opened my ears to many genre's of music.....
Same here, I listen to a huge variety of music these days and it all started with exploring tracks with great bass lines. Love the tone of the bass on the OP's posted example.

I sold Anth a cheap Jazz Bass pup that unfortunately got lost in Royal Mails postal system Anth was very understanding and waited well beyond the usual point when you'd assume it was not going to arrive. Top bloke! R.

Thanks for the kind word everyone.

I have one on my SR5 it's very comfortable, it's a short one set to it's shortest length and is just right for me luckily! I keep the Mono on the bass all the time and cramming them both into a case can be tricky as it's quite chunky and is prone to stopping the case from shutting properly, obviously not a problem if you remove it each time though

Dave delivered the R5 (as I call it) yesterday and this morning I had time to take a few shots of the beast, see my previous review earlier in this thread for an overview of my thoughts on the bass, to sum up I think it's a handmade thing of beauty, it plays great and has a wide variety of sounds, I've already got to grips with the very flexible rotary switches. There are a couple of minor things I'll get Dave to look at at some point next year but I'll speak to him first before mentioning them here, as I think that's only fair, I'll also wait and see how it sounds with the band before having any tweaks done and that's not until the end of Jan. Now Dave has change the back of the neck to a satin finish I feel much more at home when playing the bass. I've weighted it using my bathroom scales and it comes in at 8.8lbs so not ultra light but a far cry from the 9.6lb SR5 I usually use. I've tried it out on a strap and it feels comfortable and well balanced with no neck dive. I'll include my original Photoshop mock up that I gave to Dave at the start of the build, pretty bloody close I'll report back at the end of January with an update but for now I'd just like to thank Dave for his skill, hard work, patience and amazing service. This is my original mock-up: The bass:

Lost Art Of Keeping A Secret by QOTSA Not tricky to play but I enjoy it as we play it well, unlike a lot of other tunes we try

Work commitments have meant there has been a bit of a delay in Dave's planned trip to London, it's 99.999999% on the cards for tomorrow - yay!

Drummer mate just sent me this link to, nice find Here's the 'making of' video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFzDwdKVRak Decades ago, I used to go and see Kippers band One Nation quite a bit, mostly at the Marquee I think.

I put Barts in a passive 70's Jazz years ago and for what they cost I didn't think they made a huge difference to the sound so I took them out and sold them, recently I had a Roscoe for a while that had Bartolini soup bars and pre amp and that was the best sounding bass I've ever owned, so I have had mixed experiences with them, I'm going to give a 5 string Jazz set a try and some point. If you can pick up second hand J or P pups to try then you can always sell them on if you don't like them and not loose too much if any money. They are your basses so you can do as you wish with them but I'd leave the MM stock.

You're teasing us now! Out of interest Jim did you buy a 4 string 62RI scratcplate and adapt it for 5 string?
Is the advantage of this type of string is just that they are easier on the fingers to play or do they add more thump to your bass?
It's a tone thing as well as feel, you get a bit more thud and less sparkle then round wound strings gives you, I find there is less noise from the frets to.

I sold Anth a Jazz Bass pick-up, super fast payment and a joy to deal with.

Hello and welcome from another huge Norm fan Oi Oi

I bought a set of Bartolini 5 string Jazz Bass pick-ups, they are in excellent condition and I'm well chuffed with them
-
The P Retro sounds like a good idea. You might be able to cram a Bartolini? I couldn't find any actual dimensions on their site though. http://www.bartolini.net/information/harnesses/hr_3_3.htm

Not cheap but certainly a looker. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2011-Shuker-Custom-Jazz-Bass-5-string-ACTIVE-Shuker-Hard-Case-PX-Fender-/181268569870

That's a shame, is it because the East is on a long rectangular circuit board and a P has a curved cavity? You could always try it out passive first? you might like the sound and save a few pounds

Listen up Basschat ...... We want woolly hats !
Rumple replied to Stealth's topic in General Discussion
Count me in for a hat should they ever become available. Can I have a Pork Pie hat with a BC branded band please, failing that a Beanie would do -
They're only like that when they are new IME I used to use chrome flats all the time but am now a convert to the half rounds - yes they did feel sticky at first but the stickiness doesn't last long
Ah I didn't know that, the bass I tried them out on I sold quite soon after stringing it up.
