Status Half Rounds sound like they are worth a try, I use them and like the tone as it's not too dark and thudding like some flats can sound and the feel off them which is quite stiff, another plus is they aren't very expensive. I tried the D'Addario's and didn't get on with the sticky feel they have. This is my SR5 with the Status's on from last Sunday's rehearsal, it might not tell you much but it shows the bass still cuts through OK https://soundcloud.com/ditd/mary-had-a-little-lamb

I recently bought a Zoom H2n and this editing software CD came bundled with it but I have no use for it as I'm happy enough using Audacity to do my edits. Free to anyone who can put it to good use.

We sometimes do Superstition and have 2 guitarists but no keys, one plays the riff and the other does a wah wah chord kinda thing in the verse, bass plays the horn riff in the chorus which is fun and I think it sounds pretty good, I guess it's more akin to SRV's version then the original. I'm all for putting your own spin on a tune, although if you are in a straight up covers band the punters might not like it. Next up for us is 'Fell In Love With A Boy/Girl' which will be somewhere between the White Stripes and Joss Stone versions.

I have two amp heads, this Aggie and a newly acquired GB Streamliner I can't really afford to keep both so I'm moving the Tone Hammer on and will give the Genz a go for a while. Great sounding and looking amp in excellent condition. I don't have the original box but it will come well packaged if it's being shipped. £500.00 including UK mainland shipping, a bit less if you fancy collecting in person from South London. I can't think of anything I'd trade against except maybe a pre 74 Fender Jazz Bass so cash sale only really.
Great review, I bet it was hard letting Dave take it back?
It was a bit hard having to hand it back. Dave is down in London on 25th and if the bass is finished he will bring it with him

Yolanda Charles and Steve Lawson on tour this week :)
Rumple replied to Steve Lawson's topic in Events
I was just down the road from Stourbridge last week but missed it because I was due back in London on the Sunday before the gig -
Thanks, I'll do some experimentation on Sunday with different locations and mic combinations.

Hermes lost the secondhand H2 I bought but now I have a new H2n. What advice have folk got on settings for recording rehearsals? I'm thinking 2CH Surround Mode? anything else to consider apart from getting the levels right on the day?

Dave kindly brought the R5 (as it's become known) over on Saturday, it really is a piece of art, it looks amazing. Some great craftsmanship on his part, it looks just like the mock-up I made in Photoshop right at the beginning of the build, I didn't post that picture but I'll do so once I have pictures of the finished bass for comparison. I got to spend half an hour playing (noodling) the bass through Dave's Mark Bass F1 and Aguilar cab, over all it sounds warm but punchy especially when the bridge pick-up is soloed in either parallel or series, dial in some neck pick-up and it starts to beef up the tone as you would expect, including classic Jazz Bass. There are a variety of sounds available from the switching system some do sound similar to each other or very subtly different, all in all I'm very pleased with how it sounds so far and I'm sure it will be great when played in a band situation to. I could probably have not bothered with a tone pot or volume, the two rotary pots would have probably been enough. So a big thumbs up to the tone of the Catswhiskers pups, Dave did have to adjust the cases on the pick-ups as the pole pieces didn't quite line up which meant they didn't poke through the holes properly, I did notice that they were still a tad low in places. The neck feels great, just like a MM and with some super low action that I loved, I'm so at home on a SR5 that I've asked Dave to make the back of the neck matt or satin as it feels a bit alien to me when it's glossy as it is now. I spotted that the B string wasn't quite running between the pole pieces on the pups but luckily the Hipshot bridge just needs some adjusting to remedy that. The bass feels neat, compact, well balance and lighter then any 5er I've owned to date, not super light but at only 8.8lbs it's going to make 5 hour rehearsals a lot easier! Dave has a few bits he needs to do before he's happy to hand the bass over, unfortunately it will not be ready for Sundays last band session of the year so it will be 2014 before I get to really give it a try out. Pics, further info & thoughts once I have the finished bass and can spend some time with it. R.
Also I guess people's idea of aesthetics do change over the decades
I think that hair style might be back in fashion with the yoof fo today

It went really well thanks, absolutely love the bass but it's not quite finished as Dave has a couple of bits still to do on the neck and I spotted a tweak or two plus I'd prefer a matte or satin finish to the back of the neck rather then the gloss it is now, Dave is going to sort for me, it will be another few weeks before it's finished. I wrote a bit of a review earlier then hit the wrong key on the keyboard and it all disappeared when I get a mo' I'll write it again.
-
Thanks Jim will do, look forward to pictures of yours when you have finished it.

Dave is bringing the bass around to my Grandad's place in Worcestershire on Saturday afternoon so I'll probably be playing it this time tomorrow it might not be 100% finished so I may have to leave it with him but I'm still very excited though.

I bought a Zoom H2 from Bob that the 'good for nothing' couriers Hermes subsequently lost!! once Hermes admitted they had no idea where the package was or that they expected to find it Bob refunded my money, I'd have no qualms about dealing with him again he's a credit to BC. R.
