Yep and you probably won't lose a penny on it if you get one second hand either, it is still THE five string bass IMO. My cheapest bass is my black SR5, it has the wrong neck fitted as it was a factory fretless and is a very last of the ceramic pickup models which I had previously bypassed in favour of alnico ones to be more stingray, it's my favourite bass!
There's one I owned (briefly) up for sale by it's owner on here now, matching headstock to

I'll throw in Musicman SR5, 34" scale length with narrow 17.5mm string spacing and you would get a second hand one for that money.

I'm trying to simplify things a little and that includes pedals so I'm selling what I've found to be the best compressor out there by far, if it were smaller and ran at 9v it would be going nowhere. http://www.diamondpe...compressor.html http://www.ovnilab.c...diamobass.shtml It's in excellent condition with only some very light scratches on the side at the front, they don't go through the paint and are hardly noticeable but I'd rather mention them then not, Velcro on the bottom. Comes boxed and with the original Diamond 18v power supply. £140.00 bank transfer or PayPal Gift, includes delivery to the UK mainland by Hermes which takes 3-5 days from collection. R. Here a pic of the one I owned and played for years until I got that Jazz back in the late 80's and moved the Shergold on as I couldn't afford to keep both, it's the only bass I regret selling and I've sold a lot!

I have a set of D'Addario string that I bought by mistake, these fit a 34" scale 5 string and the bass I was going to put them on at the time (my old Overwater) was 35" scale so the packet was opened and one string lined up before I realised they were no good, they are as new, unused and uncut. The cheapest I can find them on Ebay is £25.55 from the US, I'll take £18.00 including standard postage to the UK mainland I'd also do a straight swap for a set of new Status Half Wounds for a 5 string as I have discovered I prefer them to any other string I've tried so far. Looks really nice, I'm not such a fan of the natural finish that most of them out there but once I realised they did a white one this model grabbed my attention, changing the knobs and scratchplate would be my first move to. Could you tell how much yours weighs please?
-
Doh! how did I miss your thread Thanks

Has anyone got one of these budget 5 strings and would like to comment on the build quality, sound and playability? plus I'd be very interested in knowing what it weighs. I'm toying with the idea of getting one and using it as the base for a project or just some light pimping R.

Will bought a speaker cable from me, the whole transaction was fast and smooth plus Will was a joy to deal with. R.

Here's the body with the first coat of clear lacquer which has brought the pattern out nicely.

I have a set of his PJ pups (the big version) in my fretless and they sound great to me. Wizard couldn't help when I was looking for a set of dual coils for my latest bass build so I got Catswhiskers Pickups to make them, they look really great, are UK made and were a good price but I haven't heard them yet as the bass isn't finished so can't comment on the sound, I have a feeling they will be good though. Happy Retirement Mr Wizard.
What's the lighting in the room you play it? I have LED recessed lighting on a dimmer switch which can cause interference on certain electronic items including active basses. What's the screening and grounding on the bass like?
Hi, normal house lighting, my other basses don't make a sound in the same set-up, the bass has the cavity screened and the ground wire was used for the passive set-up and works, it's a bit baffling. -
There's a bit of a story to these Here goes... I had a bass made for me and bought a used ACG 02 for it and when I got the bass home it had a high pitched buzz, especially when close to the computer and worse with the treble boosted, I had a friend check the wiring and all seemed OK so in desperation I bought another second hand 02 and my mate swapped them over and the bass was still noisy! At the weekend I got him to remove the second pre amp and wire the bass up passively and it's now sounding great and I think I'll leave it passive. So now to the tricky bit, I have 2x ACG 02 to sell that judging by my experiences with them are actually not faulty, why they didn't like my bass I have no idea and I may never know. I'm only going to ask for £65.00 each including postage to the UK mainland as I can't 100% promise they work faultlessly, as I said I can't see how both of them would have exactly the same issue it must have been an earthing issue with the bass. You can get an absolutely amazing array of tones from this system from sizzling highs to dub and some cool filter sweeps if you turn the knobs quickly while playing. If you are a dab hand at electronics (I'm not by the way) you are welcome to come ant test them out, not sure how you do that but feel free to do so, I'll supply the coffee So to be clear I'm selling them as faulty but I doubt very much that they are. One has the 3 stacked pots Vol/Bal then the 2 filter stacks the other has the additional passive tone pot and the jumper and separate volume for a bass with only one pick-up. Any qustions feel free to ask and I'll answer them as honestly and to the best of my ability. R.

Having a bit of a sort out over the weekend I found this quality OBBM speaker cable with a 1/4" jack on one end and a Speakon connector the other, I now use OBBM cables with Speakon's on both ends so no longer need this one. Only used a couple or 3 times. £8.00 including UK mainland delivery via bank transfer or Paypal gift.

I have one of the MM3 five strings and it's a nice looking bass that seems well made for such a cheap instrument.

Thanks, when I saw it the other day it had a little sanding sealer on the body which helped to show the pattern of the wood and it looked lovely. The body shape took me quite a while to come up with, I didn't want it to be too modern looking but also not a Jazz clone, I think it works, according to Dave it's proved a popular enough design that there will be at least one more bass made to the same design. I must get to a J-Sonics gig at some point, you guys sound fantastic.

Thanks, I've given up on the idea and the cab will be staying safely in the spare room
I like that. Bet you're itchin to hear it!
Yes I am getting quite excited, I have had a little play on it when Dave brought it around to discuss a couple of options, I've even sold my Overwater to make room for it
