This morning I had half an hour to spend with the MS-60B, most of that time was spent re-watching dood's video rather then reading the manual I had a B3 for a while so I was familiar with the sounds and more then happy with them for my purposes, it's a bit more fiddly to use then the B3 but that's to be expected with so much crammed into a small pedal, I'll probably still use my Diamond compressor but along with the MS it's all I need effects wise. I tried it powered by the USB port and that works. Anyone want to buy a Polytune and an OC2?

iiipopes I'd definitely be including some of the bog standard wiring options if I go for the rotary switch, if I can get something vaguely Jazz Bass sounding plus something a bit more MM stylie I'll be a happy man.

It's arrived but it will be the weekend before I get a chance to try it out.

BigRedX that's quite a few combinations to try but if I went for the more traditional ones on say 4 out of 6 then experimented with the other two to see what decent variations in sound I get. Dr M so your Dad thinks it best to always use two coils, but using parallel and series options to get tonal differences? makes sense to keep the hum cancelling properties at all times but I wonder if you would still get a Jazz Bass single coil kinda sound that way. Thanks both for your input.

Another one of my odd questions My next bass will have humbuckers in and to start with I was wondering whether to try running them passively with a 6 way 4 pole rotary switch for selecting various combinations of the coils, apart from PRS guitars (I believe they don't do this any more) I can't think of this idea being used by manufacturers, maybe there is a reason for that. Anyone tried it or own a bass that has this set-up? maybe it's a bad idea? my thinking is that you could get some quite varied tones with the 6 options.

Depends on what you want to do in the software, I use Photoshop in my day job so I use that to make mock-ups to see how a design will look but they aren't to scale just pretty pictures, there's a free program called GIMP that is similar to Photoshop that you could try, it would be ideal for sketching out ideas. AutoCad is the big cheese when it comes to technical drawings but it's expensive and complicated, maybe someone else knows of a cheap alternative?

I hadn't heard of the company until Chris mentioned them, I guess it's a bit of a risk using someone reasonably unknown but you get a UK hand made bespoke pick-up for less then the price of a mass produced item so worth it in my eyes, the only down side with the pups I'm having is the cases are a non standard size so if I don't like them I can't change them for Barts or EMG once they have gone in.

That's a good saving, mine was £103.95 all in.

After getting the heads up from Chris at Alpher Instruments I have placed an order for a pair of dual humbuckers from Allan at Cats Whiskers Pick-ups, they should look something like this Photoshop mock-up I did, the cases are a little bigger then I would have liked but only by a few mm's so they should still look the business and hopefully sound fantastic to. Martin popped around yesterday and bought a chrome P bass pick-up cover from me which made for the easiest of transactions

Thanks for taking the time to explain 51m0n, much appreciated. Since moving over to 5 string basses a few years ago I've also been using the floating thumb technique with a lot of right hand muting.
