1. Here's Allan's drawing for one of the pups, the neck one I believe.
2. That's interesting to know LeftyJ, glad there are some builders using the rotary switch
3.
Heres my bass that i did it with. http://trichards.co....Superp-bass.JPG
That must sound monstrous on some settings! a very punk looking bass, I like it
4. iiipopes I'd definitely be including some of the bog standard wiring options if I go for the rotary switch, if I can get something vaguely Jazz Bass sounding plus something a bit more MM stylie I'll be a happy man.
5. It's arrived but it will be the weekend before I get a chance to try it out.
6. BigRedX that's quite a few combinations to try but if I went for the more traditional ones on say 4 out of 6 then experimented with the other two to see what decent variations in sound I get. Dr M so your Dad thinks it best to always use two coils, but using parallel and series options to get tonal differences? makes sense to keep the hum cancelling properties at all times but I wonder if you would still get a Jazz Bass single coil kinda sound that way. Thanks both for your input.
7. Another one of my odd questions My next bass will have humbuckers in and to start with I was wondering whether to try running them passively with a 6 way 4 pole rotary switch for selecting various combinations of the coils, apart from PRS guitars (I believe they don't do this any more) I can't think of this idea being used by manufacturers, maybe there is a reason for that. Anyone tried it or own a bass that has this set-up? maybe it's a bad idea? my thinking is that you could get some quite varied tones with the 6 options.
8. Andy bought my Fender gig bag from me, fast payment and a super smooth transaction. Thanks.
9. Depends on what you want to do in the software, I use Photoshop in my day job so I use that to make mock-ups to see how a design will look but they aren't to scale just pretty pictures, there's a free program called GIMP that is similar to Photoshop that you could try, it would be ideal for sketching out ideas. AutoCad is the big cheese when it comes to technical drawings but it's expensive and complicated, maybe someone else knows of a cheap alternative?
10. I hadn't heard of the company until Chris mentioned them, I guess it's a bit of a risk using someone reasonably unknown but you get a UK hand made bespoke pick-up for less then the price of a mass produced item so worth it in my eyes, the only down side with the pups I'm having is the cases are a non standard size so if I don't like them I can't change them for Barts or EMG once they have gone in.

That's a good saving, mine was £103.95 all in.
12. After getting the heads up from Chris at Alpher Instruments I have placed an order for a pair of dual humbuckers from Allan at Cats Whiskers Pick-ups, they should look something like this Photoshop mock-up I did, the cases are a little bigger then I would have liked but only by a few mm's so they should still look the business and hopefully sound fantastic to. It's not available in the UK yet as far as I know, there is a whole thread about it here with a review by Dood though http://basschat.co.uk/topic/197805-looks-like-were-getting-the-single-pedal-b3-after-all/page__fromsearch__1
15. Martin popped around yesterday and bought a chrome P bass pick-up cover from me which made for the easiest of transactions
16. Thanks for taking the time to explain 51m0n, much appreciated. Since moving over to 5 string basses a few years ago I've also been using the floating thumb technique with a lot of right hand muting.
17. Just been cleaning out a cupboard and found the gig bag that come with the used Road Worn Jazz I bought from the US, it's like new and still has the tags on it and was only used once for shipper to the UK. £32.00 delivered to the mainland UK.
18. Decided to move some of my compressors on and this is the first up for grabs, it's in excellent condition with no Velcro on the bottom, the box is a bit battered. This is the older non true bypass model but from what I've read it makes very little difference and I think most of us would leave it on at all times any way. £75.00 delivered to the mainland UK. 19. As you say poor show on my part, Dave did send me this picture prior to meeting up with him last weekend, it's shows the shape off nicely.
20. Apologies I misunderstood and thought the idea was using more fingers to play faster I'll get my coat.
21. I can barely play properly with 2 fingers but on the odd occasion I've given 3 a try (and failed) I used the middle finger twice in each 4 note pattern so.... 1st-2nd-3rd-2nd or 3rd-2nd-1st-2nd so I was always starting with the same finger, it's not very natural but with plenty of practice could work.
