Auditioning For An Originals Band - Advice Please
Rumple replied to Rumple's topic in General Discussion
Update: I asked for some chord charts to the songs they wanted me to learn for the audition and I haven't heard back from the main man, that was over 5 days ago so I'll put that one down to experience -
Agreed, but I'd say more than 80%.
Yup, I'm only doing it for fun so I'll only get involved if it's an enjoyable way to spend some time. -

I've asked for some charts so I'll wait and see what response I get.
Main thing is are you expected to play someone else's basslines or your own....
Good point -
There's a short interview over on the BBC R2 web site worth a listen if you didn't hear it when it went out live http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p015x8xt

Cheers guys, that's what I love about this place, some sound advice within minutes of asking a question I might have wrestled with for days. I'll be keeping it simple that's for sure until I get the feel for the direction the main man wants to go with it. gear wise it will be one 4 string through the rehearsal rooms amp to start. -
Ask for everything he can give you, no point in making it harder than it has to be and you have to ensure that you can work together effectively
Thanks, I was certainly going to ask for chord charts but then I had a thought maybe that's not what people do, they're not complicated tunes but I'd feel happier working like I do for a cover version then winging it. -
After several e-mail conversations I went along on Monday night to meet a guy to discuss playing for his band, I was under the assumption it was a covers band but it turns out he's writing his own material anyway I thought that would be the end of it but after listening to the CD of tunes he gave me I liked the material and have offered to go along for an audition. So my question is, what's the etiquette, should I slave away listening to the CD and work out the songs or as I have limited time available for practising is it acceptable to ask for chord charts to work to? I've exclusively played covers for the last 20 odd years and that has just been a case of deciding what recorded version to do and searching for the dots or TAB. Thanks R.

Finding a drummer is a nightmare - good luck.

We found one on Musofinder.co.uk, it took a while though.

I bought these ages ago for a project but ended up getting some Wizards instead so they are now not needed, I think they are from a Squier or something of similar quality, they're in great condition. Any questions fire away and I'll try and answer them, or if you require pictures. [s]£18.00[/s] [s]£12.00[/s] £10.00 including second class postage within the UK. Thanks

Ah yes I did see that, I was meaning the 5 string version of the Sterling model rather then a SR5 made by Sterling if that makes sense?

I popped along for an hour or so yesterday, the noise levels were much better then last year which made walking about in the exhibitors area quite enjoyable, next year I'll plan better and attend at a time when there are Masterclasses or performances I want to see rather then fitting a brief visit to the show around the rest of my weekend schedule. Random observations - great jobs being done by Bluejay on the BC stand, I still GAS after another Roscoe Bass, No Sterling 5 on the MM stand, Andy Baxter's stand could have made a grown man weep, Steve Lawson and Yolanda Charles are way taller and Dave Swift shorter then I imagined them to be, I should have asked Vanderkley about getting a cover for my 212MNT. Enjoy yourself if you are going today.

A recent bad cold has left me semi deaf in one ear, the one advantage is it means I might not need ear plugs tomorrow or just one

I have way too much gear, I'd love to keep this as is very light and like new, I can't find a mark on it! but I feel more at home with the other battered SR5 I have with a maple neck. I think it's a 2005 serial number starts E45... Lovely natural finish Rosewood fingerboard Sub 9lbs come in at something like 8.8lbs using the very no scientific method of weighing myself with and without the bass on the kitchen scales Schaller strap locks buttons fitted, I'll include the bits that go on the strap if you need them. Comes with official MM case that has some scuffs and one small/medium sized crack on one side, the crack doesn't effect it's functionally. Looking for [s]£1000.00[/s] [s]£975.00[/s] [s]£950.00[/s] £900.00 collected from South London, I do have a bass sized box from a recent purchase so I could courier it but at the buyer cost for insured posting. Not really after any trades as I really need to make some space but would possibly consider an old Stingray or Jazz bass. I think that's about it but feel free to PM me if you require more pics of info.
